Background
The COVID-19 pandemic is a global public health problem affecting mental health, and basic data are required for evidence-based mental health interventions. This study aimed to identify ...the prevalence of psychological impacts, anxiety, depression, stress, and any associated risk factors in individuals living in Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Materials and methods
The population of this descriptive study consisted of individuals over the age of 18 living in Turkey. The data were collected between July–September 2020 using the snowball sampling method. The study was completed with 1733 participants. The data were collected using the Impact of Events Scale-Revised and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale. Statistical analyses included percentage, mean, standard deviation, a Chi-square test, a Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis and Tamhane's T2 post hoc, and Spearman's correlation. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results
45.1% had moderate or severe psychological effects; 42.7% had a moderate or severe depression, 31.7% had moderate or severe anxiety, and 28.5% had moderate or severe stress levels. Being a woman, being single, unemployment, smoking, the presence of chronic diseases, being young (<35), being a university graduate, having a household size of 5 or more, a low income, having poor health, and being underweight were significantly correlated with some psychological impact, depression, anxiety, and stress levels of people.
Conclusion
During the pandemic period, almost half of the respondents were found to experience some psychological impact of the pandemic and have negative moderate to severe mental health levels. Risk groups for mental health were identified.
Background/aim: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major health problem worldwide. Cinnamic acid (CA) and its derivatives are synthesized in plants and increasing attention has been given to them in recent ...years due to the high number of beneficial health properties attributed to their consumption. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of CA on streptozotocin-induced diabetes in Wistar albino rats. Materials and methods: DNA damage was evaluated in the blood, liver, and kidney cells of rats by the alkaline comet assay. Oxidative stress parameters such as catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, glutathione-S-transferase, and glutathione peroxidase activities and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine, total glutathione, and malondialdehyde levels; biochemical parameters including insulin, total bilirubin, and BCA protein levels; hepatic enzyme levels such as alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, and gamma-glutamyl transferase; and lipid profile parameters including high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were also evaluated. Results: DM caused genotoxic damage and alterations in lipid profiles, oxidative stress parameters, and hepatic enzymes levels. CA treatment ameliorated these effects. Conclusion: It seems that CA might have a role in the prevention of the complications of diabetes.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to determine the organizational stress sources of flight dispatcher working in aviation companies operating in the Turkish civil aviation sector. ...Design/methodology/approach – In the research, semi-structured interview technique, which is a qualitative research method, was used. In the research, within the framework of purposive sampling, a study group of 24 people, who can represent their profession, was reached from 408 licensed flight operations specialists in Turkey with the criterion and snowball method. The audio recordings of the one-to-one interviews with the people in this group were manually transferred to the Microsoft Word program by the researcher, verbatim. The MAXQDA 2020 Analysis Program was used to analyze the data. Findings – According to the results of the research, organizational stress sources of flight dispatchers were grouped under 3 themes (in terms of the work itself, the work environment and its effect on people) and 16 titles. Discussion – Aviation sector is one of the sectors where organizational stress is experienced intensely. Especially flight dispatchers, who are at the center of the operation, are often faced with this situation. In this context, it is considered important to carry out studies to reduce organizational stress in flight dispatchers in order to prevent the negative consequences of organizational stress.
Amaç: İş sağlığı hemşireliği, hemşireliğin çalışma alanlarından biridir. İş sağlığı ve güvenliği uygulamalarının önemi gün geçtikçe artmakta ve öğrencilerin iş sağlığı alanında çalışma konusunda ...görüşleri önem kazanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada öğrencilerin iş sağlığı hemşireliği alanında çalışma konusundaki düşüncelerini ve görevleri konusundaki bilgi düzeylerini öğrenmek amaçlanmıştır.Yöntem: Çalışma, 2019 yılı Haziran ayında 210 hemşirelik öğrencisiyle yürütülen kesitsel bir çalışmadır. Veriler, araştırmacılar tarafından soru formuyla sınıfta gözlem altında toplandı. Verilerin analizinde yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma ve kikare testi kullanıldı. Anlamlılık değeri p<0,05 olarak kabul edildi.Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %67’si kız, yaş ortalamaları 21,5±1,49’dur. Mezun olduklarında %55,6’sı hastanede, 29,5’i ASM/TSM’de çalışmak istemektedir. İş sağlığı alanında %17,6’sı çalışmaktan memnun olacağını belirtti. Öğrenciler iş sağlığı alanında çalışan bir hemşirenin %77,6 oranıyla en fazla eğitici rolünü kullanılacağını ve %41,4 oranıyla çalışma ortamıyla ilgili sorunları saptama görevi olduğunu ifade etti. Hemşirelikle ilgili mevzuat içerisinde işyeri hemşireliğinin tanımlandığı yasa-yönetmelik-yönerge olduğunu belirten %42,4 olup 4. sınıflarda ve iş sağlığı ile ilgili ders alanlarda anlamlı fazla bulundu.Sonuç: Öğrencilerin yarısı mezun olduklarında hastanelerde çalışmak isterken, dörtte üçü işyerinde de çalışabileceğini belirtti. İş sağlığıyla ilgili derslerin, bilgi düzeylerini artırdığı, ancak çalışma isteğini etkilemediği görüldü.Anahtar kelimeler: Hemşirelik, iş sağlığı, öğrenci
Aim: Occupational health nursing is one of the working fields of nursing. The significance of occupational health and safety practices is increasing day by day, and students' views on working in the field of occupational health are gaining importance. The aim of this study was to determine the students' views on working in the field of occupational health nursing and their level of knowledge about related duties.Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out with 210 nursing students in June 2019. The data were collected under observation in the classroom by the researchers using a questionnaire. Percentage, mean, and standard deviation and the Chi-square were used for analysis. The significance value was accepted as p<0.05.Results: 67% of the students were girls, and their mean age was 21.5±1.49. 55.6% want to work in hospitals and 29.5% in FHC/CHC when they graduate. 17.6% stated that they would be happy to work in the field of occupational health. The students, 77.6% reported that a nurse working in the field of occupational health would use the role of the educator role the most, and 41.4% stated that they had the task of identifying problems related to the working environment. 42.4% knew about a law-regulation-directive defining workplace nursing within the nursing-related legislation, were found to be significantly higher in 4th-grade students and those taking courses related to occupational health.Conclusion: While half of the students want to work in hospitals when they graduate, three quarters of them stated that they can also work in the workplaces. Occupational health-related courses increased the level of knowledge but did not affect the willingness to work.
Eugenol is a volatile phenolic constituent of clove essential oil obtained from
buds and leaves. It is a functional ingredient of numerous products which have been used in the pharmaceutical, food ...and cosmetic industry in restricted concentrations. Its derivatives have been used in medicine as a local antiseptic and anesthetic. The wide range of eugenol activities includes antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant. Although eugenol is considered safe as a product, due to the vast range of different applications and extensive use, there has been a great concern about its toxicity in recent years. However, studies about cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of eugenol are very limited and controversial. The pharmacological and toxicological properties of eugenol will be discussed in this review.
Hemşirelik ünvanı, farklı eğitim seviyesinden mezun olanlara 2018 yılına kadar verilmiş, lise mezunları 2018 yılı itibariye hemşire yardımcısı olarak mezun olmaya başlamıştır. Bu çalışmada lise ...mezuniyeti sonrasında hemşire yardımcılığı ünvanı alınması ile ilgili yapılan değişikliği lisans ve lise düzeyindeki hemşirelik ve hemşire yardımcılığı bölümü öğrencilerinin nasıl karşıladığı konusundaki düşüncelerini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır.Araştırma Rize’de, bir üniversite ve iki farklı lisede, 276 öğrenci ile yürütülen kesitsel bir çalışmadır .Veriler araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan sosyodemografik bilgilerin, öğrencilerin değişiklik hakkındaki bilgi ve düşüncelerinin sorulduğu anket formuyla, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Üniversitesi Girişimsel Olmayan Etik Kurul izni (2018-52) ve Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğünden izinler alınarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde yüzde ve ki-kare analizi kullanılmıştır.Lisans öğrencileri hemşirelik bölümünü en yüksek oranda iş bulma imkanının fazla olması (%72) nedeniyle seçerken lise öğrencileri mesleği sevdiği için (%35,3) seçmiştir. Lise ve üniversite mezuniyeti sonrasında hemşire ünvanının alınmasını lise öğrencileri doğru bulurken (%55,9), aynı ortamda çalışırken sorun yaşanacağını düşünme (%66,9) üniversite öğrencilerinde fazladır. Her iki grupta hemşire yardımcılığı olarak ünvan değişikliği yapıldığını bilirken sadece üniversite öğrencileri bunu olumlu karşılamaktadır (%80,3). Lisans öğrencileri hemşirelik mesleğine etkisi konusunda en fazla hemşirenin iş yükünü azaltacağı (%82,2) görüşüne katılmışlardır. Sağlık meslek lisesi mezunu lisans öğrencilerinde (%46,5) ve 12. sınıf lise öğrencilerinde (%65) lise ve üniversite mezunlarına hemşire ünvanı verilmesini doğru bulma daha fazladır. Üniversite öğrencileri unvan değişikliğini doğru bulurken, lise öğrencilerinin istemediği belirlenmiştir.
Background/aim: Lycopene, which is suggested to be a potent antioxidant, may play a protective role in diseases related to oxidative stress. In order to understand the effects of lycopene in the ...pathogenesis of cholestasis, we investigated the effects of lycopene on oxidative stress parameters and DNA damage induced by experimental biliary obstruction in the liver tissues and the lymphocytes of Wistar albino rats. Materials and methods: The animals were randomized into 3 groups. The sham group was subjected to a sham operation, the BDL group was subjected to bile duct ligation (BDL), and the BDL+L group was subjected to BDL and treated with 10 mg/kg body weight of lycopene. After 7 days of treatment, the liver functions, oxidative stress parameters, and DNA damage were evaluated. Results: The lycopene treatment significantly ameliorated the liver function parameters in BDL rats. It significantly reduced malondialdehyde and nitric oxide levels and enhanced reduced glutathione levels and catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione S transferase activities in the BDL rats. The lycopene treatment also decreased DNA damage as assessed by comet assay in the lymphocytes and hepatocytes of the BDL rats. Conclusion: These results suggest that lycopene might have protective effects on acute cholestasis.

Recent interest in phytochemicals has increased because of their protective effects against free oxygen radicals. Lycopene, which belongs to the carotenoid family, is the most effective singlet oxygen scavenger
of all the carotenoids. Foods that contain lycopene and related supplements have been reported to prevent chronic diseases including cancer, asthma, and cardiovascular disorders. The aim of the article was to give a brief review of the antioxidant properties and beneficial health effects of lycopene.
