This paper introduces a novel meshless and Lagrangian approach for simulating non-Newtonian flows, named Lagrangian Differencing Dynamics (LDD). Second-order-consistent spatial operators are used to ...directly discretize and solve generalized Navier–Stokes equations in a strong formulation. The solution is obtained using a split-step scheme, i.e., by decoupling the solutions of the pressure and velocity. The pressure is obtained by solving a Poisson equation, and the velocity is solved in a semi-implicit formulation. The matrix-free solution to the equations, and Lagrangian advection of mesh-free nodes allowed for a fully parallelized implementation on the CPU and GPU, which ensured an affordable computing time and large time steps. A set of four benchmarks are presented to demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the proposed formulation. The tested two- and three-dimensional simulations used Power Law, Casson and Bingham models. An Abram slump test and a dam break test were performed using the Bingham model, yielding visual and numerical results in accordance with the experimental data. A square lid-driven cavity was tested using the Casson model, while the Power Law model was used for a skewed lid-driven cavity test. The simulation results of the lid-driven cavity tests are in good agreement with velocity profiles and stream lines of published reports. A fully implicit scheme will be introduced in future work. As the method precisely reproduces the pressure field, non-Newtonian models that strongly depend on the pressure will be validated.
Traditional shipbuilding is an important part of Croatian cultural and national heritage that needs to be preserved. This refers to the importance of documenting and transmitting knowledge and skills ...and preserving the authenticity of the shapes, dimensions, materials and technology of building traditional boats. One of the problems that arises in the revitalization and reconstruction of traditional boats is the lack of documentation, so it is necessary to make line drawings and show the details of traditional construction solutions. The paper presents a procedure for reconstruction of the hull form of a traditional boat using the photogrammetric method. In the preparation phase of the procedure the activities of recording and analysis of photographs are necessary. The SfM approach was used in this phase. The result of the processed data with this method is a cloud of measured points. These points were used in the next step of the procedure for the creation of the preliminary mesh to describe the hull form. In the final phase of the procedure the exact 3D hull model was created using combination of mesh refinement in specialized software and measurement updates from the boatbuilders. The advantages in use of photogrammetric measurement method, in combination with the SfM method for photo analysis, for the reconstruction of the hull form of a traditional boat are highlighted in the conclusion.
The paper presents the results of research of declension of feminine nouns of the vernacular of Crikvenica. The alternative endings in the genitive singular and nominative, accusative plural are ...governed by the stem-final consonant: if it is a palatal consonant, the ending -e is used, and if it is a non-palatal consonant, the ending -i is used. The research was conducted by two methods. On the one hand is a method that belongs to traditional dialectological research (using targeted questionnaires), while on the other hand a method that belongs to sociolinguistic quantitative research based on the approach to the Labov’s (and his sociolinguistic heritage) study of language changes and variability in language. The results of both studies yielded similar results: a) older informants mostly kept palatal and non palatal variant declension of feminine nouns in all three cases; b) predominance of palatal variant in all three cases is visible in all informants born in and after the 50’s of 20’th century with sporadic, random appearances of non palatal variant.
U radu se, na temelju korpusa ekscerpiranog iz rječnika Opis i rječnik đurđevečkoga govora autora Jele Maresić i Vladimira Miholeka (2011), pomoću semantičko-konceptualnog pristupa analiziraju ...frazemi koji su grupirani u nekoliko koncepata: frazemi koji se odnose na čovjekov odnos prema jelu i piću (kojima je značenje frazema definirano glagolima jesti i piti), frazemi koji se odnose na čovjekovo stanje (kojima je značenje frazema definirano pridjevima pijan, žedan, gladan i sit) i frazemi koji se odnose na čovjekovu vanjštinu (kojima je značenje frazema definirano pridjevima mršav i debeo). Slijedeći postavke kognitivne semantike, nastojala se utvrditi motivacija frazema i sveza s frazemskim značenjem.
Breast cancer, along with lung cancer and melanoma, is one of the most common origins of central nervous system metastases. Due to improvement of systemic therapy options for primary disease and ...consequential prolonged survival, treatment of brain metastasis (BM) is presenting an evolving challenge. While new systemic therapy approaches for breast cancer brain metastasis are focusing on overcoming the blood brain and blood tumor barrier, as well as targeted therapies, local therapy remains the primary line of treatment. The decision of which local therapies to use, depends upon the number and volume of BM, their localization, patient’s clinical status, previously used treatments, status of extracranial disease and patient’s prognosis. In cases when an active approach, including surgery and/or radiotherapy, does not bring benefit to the patient’s quality of life or overall survival, best supportive care is recommended.
This research addresses and resolves current challenges in meshless Lagrangian methods for simulating viscoelastic materials. A split-step scheme, or pressure Poisson reformulation of the ...Navier–Stokes equations, is introduced for incompressible viscoelastic flows in a Lagrangian context. The Lagrangian differencing dynamics (LDD) method, which is a thoroughly validated Lagrangian method for Newtonian and non-Newtonian incompressible flows, is extended to solve the introduced split-step scheme to simulate viscoelastic flows based on the Oldroyd-B constitutive model. To validate and evaluate the new method’s capabilities, the following benchmarks were used: lid-driven cavity flow, droplet impact response, 4:1 planar sudden contraction, and die swelling. These findings highlight the LDD method’s effectiveness in accurately simulating viscoelastic flows and capturing large deformations and memory effects. Even though the extra stress was directly modeled without any regularization approach, the method produced stable simulations for high Weissenberg numbers. The stability and performance of the the Lagrangian numerics for complex temporal evolution of material properties and stress responses encourage its use for industrial problems dealing with polymers.
In this paper, a new Lagrangian differencing dynamics (LDD) method is presented for the simulation of granular flows. LDD is a truly meshless method, which employs second-order consistent spatial ...operators derived from the Taylor expansion and point renormalization. A decoupled pressure-velocity formulation is employed to derive the pressure Poisson equation, which ensures smooth pressure results in time. Granular media are modeled as viscoplastic materials with the Drucker-Prager yield surface. The velocity equation is formulated and solved in an implicit form, in order to handle large viscosities from the constitutive model. Furthermore, a position-based dynamics technique is used to maintain uniform distribution of the Lagrangian points. The presented LDD method for granular flows is validated by simulating two numerical examples. The results are compared with experimental and numerical data from the literature.

Obesity has become one of the major threats for public health in industrialised world among adults, but also among adolescents and children. It is infl uenced by the interaction of genes, nutrition, ...environment, and lifestyle. Environmental and lifestyle risk factors include foetal and lifelong environment, nutrient quality, chemical and microbial exposure, and psychical stress, all of which are important contributing infl uences. Removing or limiting chemical and pharmaceutical obesogens from human environment could make a difference in the growing epidemic of obesity. Additionally, nutrigenomics describes how modifi cations in individual diets can improve health and prevent chronic diseases, as well as obesity, by understanding the effects of a genetic profi le in the interaction between food and increase in body weight. Furthermore, individual genetic variations in genome represent an individual′s predisposition for obesity. Therefore, the use of individual genetic information, avoiding obesogens, and a healthy lifestyle could help to improve the management of obesity and maintain a healthy weight.

značenje ‘s, od; iz’ te u tom značenju stoje uz riječi koje se sklanjaju u
genitivu i značenje ‘(zajedno) s; pomoću’ te ...u tom značenju stoje uz riječi
koje se sklanjaju u instrumentalu u mjesnim govorima Crikvenice i Grižana.
Rad je zamišljen kao dopuna utvrđenomu temeljnom inventaru prijedloga z u
ekavskom dijalektu čakavskoga narječja (Miloš 2016), posebice primorskoga
podijalekta i opisanoj distribuciji prijedloga uz padeže u rečenici te kao začetak
sličnoga istraživanja u teritorijalno bliskim govorima sjevernočakavskoga
ikavsko-ekavskog dijalekta. Crikvenički govor pokazuje inovativnost u
smjeru standardnojezičnih prijedloga iz, s i sa, a pri njihovoj uporabi zadržava
stare čakavske morfološke nastavke. Griški govor pokazuje konzervativno
stanje prijedloga z, a u svojim inovacijama pribjegava staromu čakavskom
prijedlogu zi (i u slučajevima koji u literaturi još nisu zabilježeni – uz riječi u
instrumentalu).
