We present MeerKAT HI observations of six jellyfish candidate galaxies (JFCGs) in the galaxy cluster, A2626. Two of the six galaxies JW100 and JW103, that were identified as JFCGs from B-band images, ...are confirmed as jellyfish galaxies (JFGs). Both of the JFGs have low HI content, reside in the cluster core, and move at very high velocities (\(\sim\) 3\(\sigma_{cl}\)). The other JFCGs, identified as non-jellyfish galaxies, are HI rich, with HI morphologies revealing warps, asymmetries, and possible tidal interactions. Both the A2626 JFGs and three other confirmed JFGs from the GASP sample show that these galaxies are HI stripped but not yet quenched. We detect HI, Halpha, and CO tails of similar extent (\(\sim\) 50 kpc) in JW100. Comparing the multi-phase velocity channels, we do not detect any HI or CO emission in the northern section of the tail where Halpha emission is present, possibly due to prolonged interaction between the stripped gas and the ICM. We also observe an anti-correlation between HI and CO, which hints at an efficient conversion of HI to H2 in the southern part of the tail. We find that both RPS and HI-to-H2 conversion are significant depletion channels for atomic gas. HI-to-H2 conversion is more efficient in the disc than in the tail.
Ram pressure stripping is a crucial evolutionary driver for cluster galaxies. It is thought to be able to accelerate the evolution of their star formation, trigger the activity of their central ...active galactic nucleus (AGN) and the interplay between the galactic and environmental gas, and eventually dissipate their gas reservoir. We explored the outcomes of ram pressure stripping by studying the non-thermal radio emission of the jellyfish galaxy JW100 in the cluster Abell 2626 (\(z=0.055\)) by combining LOFAR, MeerKAT, and VLA observations from 0.144 to 5.5 GHz. We studied the integrated spectra of the stellar disk, the stripped tail and the AGN, mapped the spectral index over the galaxy, and constrained the magnetic field intensity to be between 11 and 18 \(\mu\)G in the disk and \(<10\) \(\mu\)G in the tail. The stellar disk radio emission is dominated by a radiatively old plasma, likely related to an older phase of high star formation rate. This suggests that the star formation was quickly quenched by a factor of 4 in a few \(10^7\) yr. The radio emission in the tail is consistent with the stripping scenario, where the radio plasma originally accelerated in the disk is then displaced in the tail. The morphology of the radio and X-ray emissions supports the scenario of accretion of the magnetized environmental plasma onto the galaxy. The AGN non-thermal spectrum indicates that the relativistic electron acceleration may have occurred simultaneously with a central ionized gas outflow, thus suggesting a physical connection between the two processes.
We study the gas kinematics of a sample of six isolated gas-rich low surface brightness galaxies, of the class called ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs). These galaxies have recently been shown to be ...outliers from the baryonic Tully-Fisher relation (BTFR), as they rotate much slower than expected given their baryonic mass, and to have baryon fractions similar to the cosmological mean. By means of a 3D kinematic modelling fitting technique, we show that the HI in our UDGs is distributed in "thin" regularly rotating discs and we determine their rotation velocity and gas velocity dispersion. We revisit the BTFR adding galaxies from other studies. We find a previously unknown trend between the deviation from the BTFR and the disc scale length valid for dwarf galaxies with circular speeds < 45 km/s, with our UDGs being at the extreme end. Based on our findings, we suggest that the high baryon fractions of our UDGs may originate due to the fact that they have experienced weak stellar feedback, likely due to their low star formation rate surface densities, and as a result they did not eject significant amounts of gas out of their discs. At the same time, we find indications that our UDGs may have higher-than-average stellar specific angular momentum, which can explain their large optical scale lengths.
Neurodevelopmental challenges in children born very preterm are common and not improving. This study tested the feasibility of using Evidence-based Practice to Improve Quality (EPIQ), a proven ...quality improvement technique that incorporates scientific evidence to target improving language abilities in very preterm populations in 10 Canadian neonatal follow-up programs. Feasibility was defined as at least 70% of sites completing four intervention cycles and 75% of cycles meeting targeted aims. Systematic reviews were reviewed and performed, an online quality improvement educational tool was developed, multidisciplinary teams that included parents were created and trained, and sites provided virtual support to implement and audit locally at least four intervention cycles of approximately 6 months in duration. Eight of ten sites implemented at least four intervention cycles. Of the 48 cycles completed, audits showed 41 (85%) met their aim. Though COVID-19 was a barrier, parent involvement, champions, and institutional support facilitated success. EPIQ is a feasible quality improvement methodology to implement family-integrated evidence-informed interventions to support language interventions in neonatal follow-up programs. Further studies are required to identify potential benefits of service outcomes, patients, and families and to evaluate sustainability.
In this paper, we model the dynamics of business investment taking into account asset-specific characteristics potentially affecting the reactivity of aggregate and disaggregate capital accumulation ...over the business cycle. We estimate Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and traditional investment (non-ICT) determinants within a Vector Error Correction Model testing the assumptions of the flexible accelerator and neoclassical model as well as the role of financial constraints and uncertainty. We evaluate our model on Italian data over the period 1980–2012, and we check our results also with Spanish and UK data. Our findings support the assumption that capital is heterogeneous since short- and long-run determinants are significantly different across the assets. Traditional assets experience stock adjustment costs while ICT investment incurs flow adjustment cost. In the short run, liquidity is a key determinant of investment independently of the asset type. In the long run, uncertainty significantly affects ICT. Finally, the results of the counterfactual exercises support the idea that ICT is a key policy variable to foster economic growth.
Objective. The aims of this article were to test the measurement invariance of the Italian and American versions of the Adult Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire and to compare adults' ...remembrances of parental acceptance-rejection across the two nations. Design. The Adult Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire was administered to 564 Italian adults (M = 23.04 years) and 509 U.S. American adults (M = 22.09 years), matched by gender and age. The measurement invariance of the Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire was first established by means of multi-group confirmatory factor analyses. Results. The Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire is fully invariant across the two cultures, and adults organize their remembrances of mothers' and fathers' parenting around the same four classes of behavior in both nations. Italian and American adults tend to remember their parents as having been quite loving, with Italian parents being remembered as slightly less warm and more hostile than American parents. Conclusions. The full invariance of the Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire across the two populations represents additional strong evidence for the universality of interpersonal acceptance-rejection theory. Measurement invariance also confirmed that the Adult Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questionnaire (short form) can be used to measure adult remembrances of parental acceptance-rejection across these two populations.

To assess the role of Notch activation in predicting bevacizumab efficacy in colorectal cancer (CRC).
Notch activation was evaluated by immunohistochemistry (IHC) on 65 CRC enrolled within randomized ...clinical trials assessing first-line bevacizumab-based chemotherapy and on 21 CRC treated with chemotherapy alone.
Strong Notch (IHC 3+) activation was negatively associated with response (18 vs 62% in low Notch cases IHC 0, 1, 2+; p = 0.016), progression-free survival (4.9 vs 12.1 months; p = 0.002) and overall survival (19.3 vs 30.4 months; p = 0.039). No correlation was found between Notch activation and clinical outcome in CRC treated with chemotherapy alone.
A potential role of Notch activation in the antitumor activity of bevacizumab could be hypothesized.
Objective: Group B streptococcus (GBS) early-onset sepsis (EOS) has declined after widespread intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis. However, strategies for preventing EOS may differ across countries. ...The analysis of their strategies allows to compare the effectiveness of prevention in different countries and suggests opportunities for improvement.
Methods: We compared six western countries. Prevention strategies, incidence rates of EOS and approaches for managing neonates at-risk were analysed. Countries were selected because of availability of recommendations for prevention and sufficient epidemiological data for comparison.
Results: Five of six countries recommend antenatal vagino-rectal screening. The decline of GBS cases is relevant in most countries, particularly in those with a screening-based strategy, which have reached incidence rates from 0.1 to 0.3/1000 live births and zero or close to zero mortality in full-term newborns. The recommendation for managing asymptomatic neonates at risk for EOS varies according to gestational age and ranges from observation only to laboratory testing plus empirical antibiotics. Chorioamnionitis (suspected or confirmed) is the main indication for carry out laboratory testing and for administering empirical antibiotics.
Conclusions: Wide variations exists in preventing EOS. They depend on national epidemiology of GBS infections, compliance, cost, and feasibility of the strategy. The extreme variability of approaches for managing neonates at risk for EOS reflects the even greater uncertainty regarding this issue, and may explain the persisting, great use of resources to prevent a disease that has become very rare nowadays.

Background: Antiangiogenic therapies represent a well established additional treatment to standard chemotherapy, nevertheless no markers are available to suggest a successful ...outcome linked to the use of bevacizumab. To investigate potential mechanisms of resistance to angiogenesis inhibitor bevacizumab, Notch expression was correlated with response and survival in a series of bevacizumab treated advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Methods: Notch expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry (IHC) on 65 primary CRC enrolled within 6 randomized clinical trials assessing first-line bevacizumab plus chemotherapy. Notch IHC was conducted using a polyclonal antibody to Cleaved Notch1 (Cell Signaling Technology, Danvers, MA). Notch expression was scored based on intensity of staining (0: none, 1+: weak, 2+: moderate; 3+: strong) and on percentage of immunostained cells. A control series of 21 advanced CRC treated with chemotherapy alone was also examined. Results: Notch positivity was localized to the cytoplasm or nucleus of malignant epithelial cells. In all, 11 of 61 (18%) evaluable primary tumours had a high Notch expression (IHC 3+). Six of the 11 cases (55%) with high Notch expression (IHC 3+) experienced progressive disease compared with 5 of 50 (10%) low Notch expression cases (IHC 0 1+ 2+) (p = 0.003). A high Notch expression also demonstrated an inferior median PFS (4.9 vs. 12.1 months; HR = 2.51; 95% CI, 0.96 to 6.58; p = 0.007) and OS (19.3 vs. 30.4 months; HR = 2.21; 95% CI, 0.79 to 6.15; p = 0.039) compared with low Notch expression cases. When the groups were further analyzed considering VEGF expression, the best outcome was found in low Notch (IHC 0 1 +) and high VEGF expressing tumors (IHC 2+ 3+) (response rate 9 of 11, 82 % vs. 1 of 5, 20%, in patients with high levels of Notch and VEGF expression, respectively). No correlation was found between Notch expression and clinical response in the series of patients treated with chemotherapy without bevacizumab. Conclusions: Notwithstanding the limited power of the present analysis, these data seem to suggest that low Notch expression might be a marker for successful bevacizumab treatment.
To study the relationships between serum IGF-1, IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-2 and interleukin (IL)-1beta and IL-6 in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Thirty-seven patients (18 males, 19 females, aged 8.8-26.1 ...years) with IBD (Crohn's disease, CD, n = 17, and ulcerative colitis, UC, n = 20) were studied. Patients were in relapse or remission according to established criteria. Serum IGF-1, IGFBP-3, IGFBP-2, IL-1beta and IL-6 levels were determined in patients and 15 healthy controls (aged 8.2-19.0 years).
IGF-1 levels were lower in patients with CD in relapse compared with controls (p < 0.05). IGFBP-2 levels were higher in CD in relapse compared with other groups (all p < 0.05). In CD and UC patients (n = 37), IGF-1 levels were inversely correlated with the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP). IGFBP-2 levels correlated positively with ESR and IL-1beta. IL-6 levels correlated positively with ESR and CRP. IL-1beta levels were elevated in CD in relapse compared to controls (p < 0.05) and were higher in UC in relapse than in other groups (all p < 0.05). In combined CD/UC patients in relapse (n = 20), IL-1beta levels were higher (p < 0.05) in patients with recto-sigmoiditis (n = 5) than in other patients.
IGF-1, IGFBP-2 levels were related to IL levels, disease activity and anatomical distribution, consistent with active inflammation modifying the IGF-IGFBP system, possibly relevant to disturbance of growth.
