Given that storytelling is a student-centered approach that encourages deep and individual learning, the purpose of this research is to encourage more frequent use of storytelling in teaching to make ...it easier and faster for students to learn and improve their achievements. This research was conducted with the aim of examining the storytelling capacity of students studying education in the Republic of Croatia(the sample consisted of 104 students of the University of Zagreb), and conducting a detailed analysis of the dimensions of storytelling capacity, in order to enable comparison with other research done in the Western culture (USA and Germany) and countries of Eastern culture (China and Vietnam), as well as to explore differences in the perception of storytelling between students belonging to the Eastern and Western cultural traditions, respectively. We also wanted to examine how cultural differences affect this perception. The results of the research are surprising, because it turned out that Croatian students are closest to American students in terms of storytelling capacity, which means that Croatian students are closer to American than German students, although there is a connection with German students but it is not that strong. In relation to the students of Eastern culture, an incredible similarity was found between Croatian students and Vietnamese students in one dimension of storytelling, namely beliefs and convictions.

Disinformation and propaganda have become the ‘heritage’ of modern society, but the concept of ‘fake news’ has been introduced into the everyday language during and after the United States ...presidential election in 2016, first and foremost thanks to the current president Donald Trump. Mass circulation of fake news is the reason why more and more EU citizens are beginning to doubt the credibility of the traditional media such as press and television and choose instead to turn to the internet, i.e. various portals and social networks. In March 2019, an online research has been conducted in the Republic of Croatia on the sample of over 150 citizens. The aim of the research has been to examine the citizens of the Republic of Croatia’s opinion and attitude toward fake news, as found in the media and on the internet. In our modern digital age, thanks to the technology development and the omnipresence of social networks, disinformation has assumed new, alarming shapes. The public prefers the information sources found on the internet, whereas the media literacy and critical opinion are underdeveloped. Such a situation may be difficult to change in due time, whereas the impact of fake news is a growing threat to the media credibility and democracy.

AbstractThe ability to identify, understand and interpret non-verbal cues makes communication among people high quality and successful. In this paper, special attention is paid to non-verbal ...communication in the classroom, with emphasis on the non-verbal behaviour of teachers. In this paper the study of non-verbal behaviour of classroom teachers and final-year-students of the Faculty of Teacher Education is presented. The aim was to detect forms of non-verbal behaviour that are used in teaching situations by teachers and by students. The study was conducted in primary schools according to the Flanders model of interaction analysis. Ten elements that are included in the Flanders model of teaching communication were adapted to the specific needs of this research. The study comprised fifteen classroom teachers with longer working experience and fifteen students in the final year at the Faculty of Teacher Education. The following channels of teacher's non-verbal communication were observed in the study: visual communication, movements within a lecture, use of paralanguage, facial expressions of teachers and teacher's relationship towards students. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences between teachers and students - future teachers (t = 0.303 <2.04 limits at a significance level of 0.05) in the use of different channels of non-verbal communication, which differs from previous research around the world and in Croatia (Globočnik Žunac & Bakić-Tomić 2011, Howe, 2002, Napan 1994, Neill 1991, Klinzig and Tisher 1986, Wragg & Dooley 1984, Jacker et al. 1965) which generally confirmed the existence of differences between samples. Key words: classroom teaching; Flanders interaction analysis (FIA); non-verbal communication; teacher---SažetakSposobnost prepoznavanja, razumijevanja i tumačenja neverbalnih znakova čini komunikaciju među ljudima kvalitetnom i uspješnom.
In a world increasingly networked with the help of information technology, where face-to-face communities are more and more supported by computer-mediated communication, and some communities exist ...solely in virtual space, the perennial social dilemma of cooperation has resurged, intriguing social researchers’ attention with new elements brought about by technological advances, such as software applications enabling simultaneous communication of community members through public and private channels, easy access to a variety of documents, anonymous messaging, forums for potentially unlimited number of members who may join or observe, and a number of other IT-enabled community-building tools. In this paper the authors discuss the cooperation problem in virtual communities through the case-study of “Connect”, an online community of Croatian scientists. Starting point of the analysis is the observation that cooperation in virtual communities may be encouraged by implementing technological solutions that provide users with incentives to cooperate. With this in mind, the authors inspect the compliance of “Connect” to a set of design principles of robust common-pool resource institutions elaborated by Elinor Ostrom. The study demonstrates that the “Connect” satisfies the majority of Ostrom’s principles, with some room for improvement, and fails to satisfy two of them, mainly due to non-existence of technical prerequisites and due to relatively small size of the community. The analysis lays ground for further work aimed at obtaining more prescriptive guidelines that would point to possible improvements in management of common pool resources in virtual communities.
Romi svojim specifičnim kulturnim elementima izgrađuju i održavaju etničku granicu spram Hrvata, te otežavaju i umanjuju mogućnosti vlastite integracije.

Studies from last year conducted by the Reuters Institute and Eurobarometer indicate that most Europeans are often confronted with fake news and disinformation in the media, mostly on the Internet. ...Members of Generation Z (born in the mid-90s to 2010) are a younger demographic group which, by the end of 2020, will make a third of the world's population. In the near future, members of Generation Z will be an influential group of young citizens whose habits, in the context of media consumption and the perception of the phenomenon of fake news and misinformation, will become very respectable. The aim of this study is to examine how members of Generation Z consume and evaluate the information they receive through various media, including the Internet, their attitudes toward misinformation and fake news and to determine to what extent their attitudes differ in comparison with older citizens. The survey was conducted in 2019 on the sample of 152 students from the University of Zagreb. Attitudes were found to differ between the members of Generation Z and older generations.

In the context of learning there is a strong consensus that students' perception about their interaction with teachers affects their motivation, outcomes and achievements. Although the communication ...process is embedded in all other common processes, few studies focus on the quality of communication, especially in education. Communication etiquette requires a greater number of communication skills due to the constant adaptation of situations in the environment. The survey was conducted on a sample of 257 teachers of primary education of the City of Zagreb and Zagreb County. The conducted research showed that primary education teachers show a noticeable higher level of communication etiquette (71.8%) than e.g. managers of social areas (43.21%). The reason can be found in two communication levels: the content and relation, whereby during initial education the relation level is often omitted without which there is no quality communication. It can be assumed that the student-professor relationship is more or less the same at all higher education institutions in Croatia, but that the social ones may differ from the technical ones regarding the content of courses which may contribute more to the development of communication culture.
