Reverend Eugen Šutrin was a victim of the supremacy of the communist ideological passion that ruled the entire area of Croatia in the immediate post-war period, including the town of Privlaka near ...Zadar. In this imposed atmosphere, individuals and groups of people who were close to or ideologically committed to the communist principles took it upon them-selves to decide on the fate of others. Quite often, their personal assessments and evaluations resulted in attacks on property and on the lives of individuals for whom they were determined to be their worldview or class enemies. There were two components involved in the case of Rev. Eugen Šutrin, who was murdered at the end of 1945: the first defined him as a worldview opponent and the second saw him as a witness to the events at the Italian concentration camp for civilian internees on Molat. The investigative actions taken against the suspects for the committed crime and the subsequent trials did not fully reveal which of the previously mentioned components was the key motive for the murder of Rev.

This article, based on original archival records, presents the direction taken by the student movement in 1971, with exclusive reference to the city of Zadar. In this context, the documentation of the State Security Service of the Republican Secretariat for Internal Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Croatia (SDS RSUP SRH) was the principal source. This collection contains numerous notes, observations and conclusions about the activities of Zadar university students as well as of individuals or groups of people from the area who were close to them in terms of fundamental principles. As a result, it is important to point out that the personal files of the actors surveilled during the period of the events that marked the student activities in the crucial moments of the Croatian Spring were produced and maintained by the aforementioned arm of the regime. At the same time, one should note that the mentioned files observed separately are not always absolutely relevant material. However, as a whole, together with other documentation, they create the prerequisites for a deeper intrusion and a more comprehensive analysis of the topic of observation. The approach of this paper is aimed at highlighting the key behaviours of communist repressive bodies, and in this sense, especially of those who were prioritized in attempts to prevent the achievement of student goals.

Autori temeljem arhivskog gradiva i relevantne literature analiziraju djelovanje jugoslavenske Službe državne sigurnosti tijekom priprema i održavanja VIII. Mediteranskih igara 1979. godine.
Ključna intencija ovoga rada vezana je uz potrebu rasvjetljavanja aktivnosti Jugoslavenskoga konzularnog predstavništva u Zadru, i to napose onih u razdoblju trajanja izražajnoga fašističkog ...političkog usmjerenja Kraljevine Jugoslavije.
The military and civilian activities carried out by Vincenzo Serrentino during
the time from his arrival in Zadar and the Dalmatian area until the moment
of his arrest were primarily characterized by ...many contradictory events.
His voluntary enlistment in the fascist party can be viewed in this context, as
well as his professional duty as secretary of the labour union in Zadar which
lasted until the outbreak of the war; subsequent to that, his participation in
the notorious Extraordinary court for Dalmatia, and lastly his overzealous
execution of the duties of prefect of Zadar province.
These types of lively activities called forth a variety of opinions concerning
his lifes work among his contemporaries. In all of these the main issue
was his tie to the fascist party, whose political support enabled his advancement
in society. All his duties and functions for the most part arose from his
political views and world outlook.
Nevertheless, right and justice did not play an important part in the
criminal trial that he faced in the postwar period, which should even in those
circumstances have been adequately represented regardless of Serrentinos earlier
actions. Namely, if the evidence had been properly presented, the reality of
the circumstances put forward at the trial would have been undermined. For
this reason, the death penalty that was finally carried out has been belaboured
by this fact. In light of all the information put forward, it is indeed important to
see Vincenzo Serrentino as a figure whose fate was closely tied to the political
moment, both in his rise to power, and in his final fall.
