Ω yields and transverse mass spectra have been measured in Pb-Pb and p-Pb collisions at 158 A GeV/
c. The yields in Pb-Pb interactions are presented as a function of the collision centrality ...and compared with those obtained from p-Pb collisions. Strangeness enhancement is observed which increases with centrality and with the strangeness content of the hyperon.
The permanent of an $n$ by $n (0,1)$ circulant matrix is known to be equal to the number of permutations on $n$ objects satisfying certain positional restrictions. The size of this number is of major ...importance for the design of certain analogue speech scramblers, as well as being a generalisation of certain "classical" enumeration problems. In this paper a new method is given for evaluating this permanent, which gives as corollaries many of the previously known results. The analogue speech scrambling scheme is also used to motivate a second enumeration problem, about which little seems to be known.
A silicon pixel telescope, consisting of seven planes for a total of about 0.5 M sensor elements with size of 75
μm × 500
μm, was successfully employed in the WA97 experiment at CERN. We describe ...here the overall performance of the detector; we also report some early results from PbPb and p-Pb runs, showing the powerful capability to measure particle momenta and the effective mass of hyperons with a good resolution.
