Objective
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a plasma-derived factor VIII concentrate containing von Willebrand Factor (pdVWF/FVIII) in standard clinical practice in von Willebrand Disease (VWD) ...patients.
Methods
A retrospective, multicentric, observational study of VWD patients treated with Fanhdi®, a pdVWF/FVIII concentrate, from January 2011 to December 2017 was conducted at 14 centers in Spain. Efficacy and safety were evaluated for acute bleeding episodes, for prevention of bleeding in surgeries, and for secondary long-term prophylaxis.
Results
Seventy-two eligible patients, type 1, 2, 3 VWD (25%/38.9%/36.1%) were treated for spontaneous and traumatic bleeding (140 episodes, n = 41 patients), to prevent surgical bleeding (69 episodes, n = 43 patients); and for secondary long-term prophylaxis (18 programs, n = 13 patients). Replacement therapy with pdVWF/FVIII showed an excellent to good clinical efficacy in 96.7% of the bleeding episodes, 100% during surgical procedures and 100% during prophylaxis. No adverse events (AEs), nor serious AEs related to the product were observed.
Conclusions
Fanhdi® was effective, safe and well tolerated in the management of bleeding episodes, the prevention of bleeding during surgeries, and for secondary long-term prophylaxis in VWD patients.

In this work we evaluated the incidence of social skills: empathy, assertiveness, teamwork and self-esteem in the academic performance of students the sixth grade. The research is part of a mixed ...approach (Creswell, 2009) since it combines quantitative and qualitative research methods and techniques. 155 sixth grade students from two institutions of the municipality of Sincelejo formed the sample. The results show that the level of development of social work skills teamwork and assertiveness are by quite heterogeneous both intra as inter groups, i.e., their level of development is a clear trend in none of the two groups, while it self-esteem and empathy have a tendency from developed to well-developed. We found a statistically significant association between the performances achieved by the students in the areas of mathematics and natural sciences, with the institution where they came from, which means that the qualifications of students from each institution tended to gather around the same levels of performance, but differentiable among the group, slightly better for the private institution. In addition, the academic performance of students in the areas of mathematics and natural sciences, keep some relation with the State of development of self-esteem and empathy skills.
There is controversy as to whether the risk of relevant infection in IBD is related to immunosuppressants or the disease itself. The aims of this study were to evaluate: 1 the life-long prevalence ...and types of relevant infections in patients with IBD related to immunosuppressive treatment, and 2 the relationship of both infection and patient comorbidity to mortality.
Observational multicentre retrospective study of IBD patients that presented a relevant infection. For each case, four periods of infection exposure were analysed: P1: pre-IBD diagnosis, P2: from IBD diagnosis to immunosuppressant initiation, P3: during immunosuppressant therapy, and P4: after treatment withdrawal.
The life-long prevalence of relevant infection in the total cohort of patients 6914 was 3%, and 5% in immunosuppressed patients 4202. 366 relevant infections were found in 212 patients P1: 9, P2: 17, P3: 334, and P4: 6. Differences between periods were significant p < 0.0001. The most frequent types of infection were respiratory, intestinal and urinary. The most frequent opportunistic infections were tuberculosis prevalence: 2.6/1000 and herpes zoster prevalence: 3.9/1000. Herpes zoster infection was associated with thiopurines alone or in combination with anti-TNF in 75% of the cases, whereas tuberculosis was associated with anti-TNF in 94% of patients. The overall mortality was 4.2%. Infection-related mortality was 2.8% and it was not influenced by comorbidity.
Relevant infections in IBD patients are rare and appear to be related to immunosuppression. Relevant infection is a major cause of death in IBD.
The prevalence of penetrating complications in Crohn's disease (CD) increases progressively over time, but evidence on the medical treatment in this setting is limited. The aim of this study was to ...evaluate the effectiveness of biologic agents in CD complicated with internal fistulizing disease.
Adult patients with CD-related fistulae who received at least 1 biologic agent for this condition from the prospectively maintained ENEIDA registry were included. Exclusion criteria involved those receiving biologics for perianal disease, enterocutaneous, rectovaginal, anastomotic, or peristomal fistulae. The primary end point was fistula-related surgery. Predictive factors associated with surgery and fistula closure were evaluated by multivariate logistic regression and survival analyses.
A total of 760 patients from 53 hospitals (673 receiving anti-tumor necrosis factors, 69 ustekinumab, and 18 vedolizumab) were included. After a median follow-up of 56 months (interquartile range, 26-102 months), 240 patients required surgery, with surgery rates of 32%, 41%, and 24% among those under anti-tumor necrosis factor, vedolizumab, or ustekinumab, respectively. Fistula closure was observed in 24% of patients. Older patients, ileocolonic disease, entero-urinary fistulae, or an intestinal stricture distal to the origin of the fistula were associated with a higher risk of surgery, whereas nonsmokers and combination therapy with an immunomodulator reduced this risk.
Biologic therapy is beneficial in approximately three-quarters of patients with fistulizing CD, achieving fistula closure in 24%. However, around one-third still undergo surgery due to refractory disease. Some patient- and lesion-related factors can identify patients who will obtain more benefit from these drugs.
