Details of 62 collections of P. maraena consisting of 2080 specimens sampled from 32 different localities throughout New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania between 13 December 1975 and 27 March 1980 ...are presented. The distribution of these records, which include 20 new localities, is compared with the "historical" distribution of P. maraena . Possible reasons for differences between past and present distributions of Australian grayling include habitat alteration, dam construction and increased research on coastal streams thus locating P. maraena in previously uncollected areas.
This Quick Reference Guide for Clinicians highlights the conclusions and recommendations from Cardiac Rehabilitation, Clinical Practice Guideline No. 17, which was formulated by a panel representing ...the major health care disciplines involved in cardiac rehabilitation. The conclusions and recommendations were derived from an extensive and critical review of the scientific literature pertaining to cardiac rehabilitation, as well as from the expert opinion of the panel. This guide addresses the role of cardiac rehabilitation and the potential benefits to be derived in the comprehensive care of the 13.5 million patients with heart disease in the United States, as well as the 4.7 million patients with heart failure and the several thousand patients undergoing heart transplantation. This Quick Reference Guide for Clinicians highlights the major effects of multifactorial cardiac rehabilitation services: medical evaluation; prescribed exercise; cardiac risk factor modification; and education, counseling, and behavioral interventions. The outcomes of and recommendations for cardiac rehabilitation services are categorized as to their effects on exercise tolerance, strength training, exercise habits, symptoms, smoking, lipids, body weight, blood pressure, psychological well-being, social adjustment and functioning, return to work, morbidity and safety issues, mortality and safety issues, and pathophysiologic measures. Patients with heart failure and after cardiac transplantation, as well as elderly patients, are specifically addressed. Alternate approaches to the delivery of cardiac rehabilitation services are presented.
Many alterations of ganglioside content and distribution have been described in human and experimental tumours. Our previous data showed the presence of lipid alterations in meningiomas, in ...particular an increased monosialylganglioside content. Therefore we analyzed the distribution and content of gangliosides in various gliomas. The data show that ganglioside content is inversely proportional to tissue malignancy and that the ganglioside pattern can be described as lacking of polysialylgangliosides with increased GD3 content. The amount of GD3 (as percent of total gangliosides sialic acid) increases from 15% in astrocytomas grade I to 60% in grade IV. The GD3 increase seems to be almost specific of glioma. Because anti-GD3 antibodies could be used to localize immunohistochemically the ganglioside and to help the tumour grading, we used a purified preparation of GD3 to produce monoclonal antibodies in balb/c mice. But because some clones did produce anti-GD3 antibodies the low yield requires further experiments to obtain an antibody useful for this purpose.
