In questo testo viene presentato un estratto di un percorso didattico svolto durante un intero anno scolastico in due biclassi del primo ciclo dell’Istituto di Lugano. Nelle classi erano presenti ...bambini con bisogni educativi specifici ed era quindi necessaria una forte differenziazione. All’interno del progetto è stato utilizzato un materiale progettato e realizzato appositamente, che rappresenta anche la base di uno sfondo motivazionale, con lo scopo di trattare diversi argomenti matematici e sviluppare alcune delle principali competenze previste dal Piano di studio della scuola dell’obbligo ticinese (Dipartimento dell’educazione, della cultura e dello sport DECS, 2022) per il primo ciclo.
Questa sperimentazione ha coinvolto 19 allievi di prima elementare con lo scopo di indagare quali rappresentazioni spontanee scelgono per comunicare a interlocutori diversi uno stimolo proposto in un ...problema numerico. I dati raccolti hanno offerto un singolare quadro sulla sensibilità dei bambini e sull’utilizzo spontaneo di diversi registri semiotici, tra cui il ricorso a grafici.
Traumatic pneumothorax (PTX) occurs in up to 50% of patients with severe polytrauma and chest injuries. Patients with a traumatic PTX with clinical signs of tension physiology and hemodynamic ...instability are typically treated with an urgent decompressive thoracostomy, tube thoracostomy, or needle decompression. There is recent evidence that non-breathless patients with a hemodynamically stable traumatic PTX can be managed conservatively through observation or a percutaneous pigtail catheter. We present here a 52-year-old woman who presented to the emergency department with a 55 mm traumatic PTX. Following aspiration of 1500 mL of air, a clinical improvement was immediately observed, allowing the patient to be discharged shortly thereafter. In hemodynamically stable patients with a post-traumatic PTX, without specific risk factors or oxygen desaturation, observation or simple needle aspiration can be a reasonable approach. Although the recent medical literature supports conservative management of small traumatic PTXs, guidelines are lacking for hemodynamically stable patients with a significantly large PTX. This case report documents our successful experience with needle aspiration in such a setting of large traumatic PTX. We aimed in this article to review the available literature on needle aspiration and conservative treatment of traumatic pneumothorax. A total of 12 studies were selected out of 190 articles on traumatic PTX where conservative treatment and chest tube decompression were compared. Our case report offers a novel contribution by illustrating the successful resolution of a sizable pneumothorax through needle aspiration, suggesting that even a large PTX in a hemodynamically stable patient, without other risk conditions, can be successfully treated conservatively with simple needle aspiration in order to avoid tube thoracostomy complications.
Theoretically, inflowing filaments of gas are one of the main causes of growth for a galaxy. Nonetheless, observationally, probing ongoing gas accretion is challenging. As part of the Gas Stripping ...Phenomena in galaxies with MUSE (GASP) program, we present the analysis of a spiral galaxy at z = 0.04648 whose characteristics indeed are consistent with a scenario in which gas accretion plays a major role. The most salient indirect parts of evidence that support this picture are as follows: (1) The galaxy is isolated, and its position rules out the mechanisms expected in dense environments. (2) It shows a pronounced lopsidedness extending toward the west. According to the spatially resolved star formation history, this component was formed ago. (3) It has many large and elongated H ii regions that are an indication of a fragmentation due to disk instability. (4) The stellar and gas kinematics are quite symmetric around the same axis, but in the gas the locus of negative velocities shows a convexity toward the east, as if new gas has been infalling with different orientation and velocity. (5) The metallicity distribution is inhomogeneous and shows exceptionally steep gradients from the center toward the outskirts, especially in the southwest side. (6) The luminosity-weighted age is generally low (∼8 Gyr) and particularly low (<7 Gyr) along a trail crossing the galaxy from southwest toward the north. It might trace the path of the accreted gas. These findings point to an inflow of gas probably proceeding from the southwest side of the galaxy.
IMPORTANCE: Cerebral amyloidosis is a key abnormality in Alzheimer disease (AD) and can be detected in vivo with positron emission tomography (PET) ligands. Although amyloid PET has clearly ...demonstrated analytical validity, its clinical utility is debated. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the incremental diagnostic value of amyloid PET with florbetapir F 18 in addition to the routine clinical diagnostic assessment of patients evaluated for cognitive impairment. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: The Incremental Diagnostic Value of Amyloid PET With 18F-Florbetapir (INDIA-FBP) Study is a multicenter study involving 18 AD evaluation units from eastern Lombardy, Northern Italy, 228 consecutive adults with cognitive impairment were evaluated for AD and other causes of cognitive decline, with a prescan diagnostic confidence of AD between 15% and 85%. Participants underwent routine clinical and instrumental diagnostic assessment. A prescan diagnosis was made, diagnostic confidence was estimated, and drug treatment was provided. At the time of this workup, an amyloid PET/computed tomographic scan was performed, and the result was communicated to physicians after workup completion. Physicians were asked to review the diagnosis, diagnostic confidence, and treatment after the scan. The study was conducted from August 5, 2013, to December 31, 2014. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: Primary outcomes were prescan to postscan changes of diagnosis, diagnostic confidence, and treatment. RESULTS: Of the 228 participants, 107 (46%) were male; mean (SD) age was 70.5 (7) years. Diagnostic change occurred in 46 patients (79%) having both a previous diagnosis of AD and an amyloid-negative scan (P < .001) and in 16 (53%) of those with non-AD diagnoses and an amyloid-positive scan (P < .001). Diagnostic confidence in AD diagnosis increased by 15.2% in amyloid-positive (P < .001; effect size Cohen d = 1.04) and decreased by 29.9% in amyloid-negative (P < .001; d = −1.19) scans. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and memantine hydrochloride were introduced in 61 (65.6%) patients with positive scan results who had not previously received those drugs, and the use of the drugs was discontinued in 6 (33.3%) patients with negative scan results who were receiving those drugs (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Amyloid PET in addition to routine assessment in patients with cognitive impairment has a significant effect on diagnosis, diagnostic confidence, and drug treatment. The effect on health outcomes, such as morbidity and mortality, remains to be assessed.

The measurement of the ...former, performed by means of the initial state radiation technique, is compatible with the presence of a resonance, called ψ(4660), observed also in other final states. On the contrary, the latter is measured an almost flat and hence non-resonant cross section in the energy region just above the production threshold, but the data stop before the possible rise in the cross section for the resonant production. We propose an effective model to describe the behavior of the data near this threshold, which is based on a Coulomb-like enhancement factor due to the strong interaction among the final state particles. In the framework of this model, it is possible to describe both datasets.

Beliefs of dementia experts about the pathogenic role of amyloid in Alzheimer's disease (AD) may affect the use of amyloid positron emission tomography (PET).
To assess the role attributed to amyloid ...in AD pathogenesis by Italian dementia experts, and whether this modulates the impact of amyloid PET results in their diagnostic workup.
22 dementia experts rated their beliefs about the pathogenic role of amyloid. Then, we asked them to rate the probability of change in diagnosis based on the result of amyloid PET for 7 case vignettes, depicting patients who initially received a diagnosis based on a comprehensive workup and later received amyloid PET results consistent or inconsistent with the clinical picture.
55% of the experts assigned a dominant role to amyloid, and 32% attributed a similar role to amyloid and tau in AD pathogenesis. The probability of change in diagnosis ranged from 17% (SD = 21.6) for cases with consistent to 51% (SD = 34) for cases with inconsistent PET versus clinical data. Diagnostic change was not biased by the clinicians' beliefs about AD pathogenesis.
This work supports an unbiased interpretation of amyloid PET across different beliefs about the pathogenic role of amyloid, and a belief-independent reluctance to change diagnosis in cases where change is expected and recommended.

Textes, performances, images, ...liturgies, sons et musiques, architectures, structures spatiales, tout ce qui contribue à la communication des sociétés politiques, tout ce qu’exprime l’idéel des individus et leur imaginaire, est ici passé au crible dans trois séries de rencontres dont les actes ont été rassemblés dans une collection, Le pouvoir symbolique en Occident (1300-1640). Ces volumes, adoptant une perspective pluridisciplinaire et comparative dans une visée de long terme, combinent études de cas, analyses conceptuelles et réflexions plus théoriques. Et les réponses à ce questionnaire, issu d’une réflexion sur une histoire culturelle poursuivie sur plus de cinq siècles, remettent en cause une histoire de l’Occident latin où l’on opposerait Église et État : la mutation culturelle engendrée par la réforme grégorienne qui, tout en assurant d’abord le triomphe de la papauté, a donné à l’État moderne les moyens d’assurer sa propre légitimité en créant les conditions d’une révolution du système de communication. Elle engendre un partage du pouvoir symbolique et des processus de légitimation avec l’État : la capacité de ce dernier à se légitimer par le consentement de la société politique en dehors de la contingence religieuse est une spécificité de l’Occident latin, clé de l’essor des États modernes européens.
