Hypovolemic shock (dengue shock syndrome (DSS)) is the most common life-threatening complication of dengue. We conducted a genome-wide association study of 2,008 pediatric cases treated for DSS and ...2,018 controls from Vietnam. Replication of the most significantly associated markers was carried out in an independent Vietnamese sample of 1,737 cases and 2,934 controls. SNPs at two loci showed genome-wide significant association with DSS. We identified a susceptibility locus at MICB (major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I polypeptide-related sequence B), which was within the broad MHC region on chromosome 6 but outside the class I and class II HLA loci (rs3132468, Pmeta = 4.41 × 10−11, per-allele odds ratio (OR) = 1.34 (95% confidence interval: 1.23-1.46)). We identified associated variants within PLCE1 (phospholipase C, epsilon 1) on chromosome 10 (rs3765524, Pmeta = 3.08 × 10−10, per-allele OR = 0.80 (95% confidence interval: 0.75-0.86)). We identify two loci associated with susceptibility to DSS in people with dengue, suggesting possible mechanisms for this severe complication of dengue.

This study aimed to investigate antimicrobial resistance profile, multidrug resistance (MDR), and molecular characteristics of pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus isolates from hospitalized Vietnamese ...adults. Two hundred and twenty-three pathogenic S. aureus isolates were obtained from the hospitals located in 3 regions of Vietnam. The minimum inhibitory concentrations were determined to detect the antibiotic susceptibility of the isolates. The molecular characteristics of S. aureus isolates were investigated through antibiotic-resistant genes analysis, staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec typing, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, and multilocus sequence typing. Substantial differences among the 3 regions were found in the prevalence rates of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (north: 48.6%, central: 58.7%, south: 78.9%) and MDR (north: 65.8%, central: 79.7%, and south: 84.2%). The prevalence rates of the genes tetK/M, aacA/aphD, ermA/B/C, and mecA increased substantially from north to south. ST188-SCCmecIV and ST239-SCCmecII isolates were most commonly found in the 2 largest clusters. ST188 predominance was observed in the largest cluster in methicillin-resistant and methicillin-sensitive S. aureus isolates, including SCCmecIII and SCCmecIVa, in fatal cases. Our results revealed a high occurrence of MDR and possible north−south trend in antibiotic resistance profile, MDR patterns, and frequency of antibiotic-conferring genes among S. aureus isolates. ST188 predominance raises concerns about the global importance of host-adapted ST188 in East Asian populations.
Background
The increasing needs of people living with dementia (PLWD) in Vietnam present an enormous public health challenge. Vietnam is an understudied country, and little is known regarding the ...overall unmet needs of caregivers or the demographic risk factors associated with unmet caregiving needs. This study aimed to determine the burden of unmet care needs of community‐dwelling PLWD and identify sociodemographic risks associated with unmet care needs.
Methods
A cross‐sectional study in a rural area facing urbanisation in Hanoi, Vietnam recruited PWLD‐caregiver dyads with multistage sampling. We utilised the Camberwell Assessment of Need for the Elderly (CANE) instrument to evaluate care needs across four domains. Caregivers rated PLWD needs, with higher scores indicating greater unmet needs. The Mann–Whitney test was employed for comparing two groups, while the Kruskal–Wallis test was used for comparisons involving more than two groups in the analysis, and a P‐value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results
Among 90 PLWD participating in the study, the overall mean care needs score was 11.6 ± 4.3, with only 16.2% of PLWD having their care needs met. Environmental and physical needs were more frequently met than psychological or social needs. Only 48.0% and 43.9% of environmental and physical needs were met respectively, and a meagre 20.9% and 23.6% for psychological and social needs. Unmet care needs were more frequent for PWLD who were female, single or divorced, had lower monthly household income, or who were in more advanced stages of dementia, as indicated by Clinical Dementia Rating scores ≥1.
Conclusions
Unmet needs for PWLD are common. Increased caregiver education, resources, and services in Vietnam are urgently required to improve the quality of life for this population.
Digital transformation has received increasing attention from organizations and businesses that want to remain competitive in the digital world. Many banks have increasingly been embracing electronic ...commerce by providing electronic banking (e-banking) services. This study aimed to investigate the impact of electronic service (e-service) quality on customer intention to use video teller machine (VTM) services. Data were obtained from 450 customers in Vietnam, where digital transformation is a priority in the development strategy of the banking industry. Structural equation modeling reveals the positive impact of three e-service quality dimensions, including responsiveness, security, and interface quality, on the perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), and attitude toward using VTM services. The findings also demonstrate that attitudes are positively related to intention toward using VTM services, and time-consciousness strengthens this relationship. These findings extend current knowledge about e-banking services in emerging markets and provide implications for bank managers and technology providers in promoting their service quality and customer use of VTM services.

This study aims to identify suitable density of suspended trays and care regime, which was conducted from February to November 2022 at Tay Van Boi, Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba, Cat Hai - Hai Phong to improve ...growth, survival rates and helping to shorten the time for snout otter clam grow-out culture. The experiment was carried out with 3 treatments: Densities of 4, 8 and 12 trays/4 m2 combined with 3 care regimes during grow-out culture. The results showed that densities of 4 and 8 trays/4 m2 were higher growth than the remaining treatment, specifically length was from 32.9 - 36.8 mm and survival rate was over 84%, with a significant difference, compared to a density of 12 trays/4 m2 with 3 different care regimes. The results show that to increase productivity and reduce production costs and care time, a density of 8 trays/4 m2 with 3 care regimes/a culturing period should be chosen. The study has also propounded disease prevention and treatment measures for the Snout otter clam to help control the disease well and proposed solutions on farming techniques that contribute to high and sustainable economic efficiency.
Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) is a contagious disease for the shrimp cultivation, thus early detection of disease is an unmet need. This present study documented for the first time ...a simple lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) strip using polyclonal antibodies was created for the rapid detection both of PirA
vp
and PirB
vp
protein simultaneously. LFIA method based on the principle of sandwich format. The label is the colloidal gold. The polyclonal antibody was conjugated with the colloidal gold acting as biorecognition element and coated onto the conjugate pad. The rabbit anti-Pir
vp
, anti-PirB
vp
antibodies, and goat anti-rabbit IgG antibody were separately sprayed onto a nitrocellulose membrane to form two test lines and one control line, respectively. The appearance of red bands at the control line and the test line indicated a positive result. A single coloured band at control area indicated a negative result. The limit of detection of LFIA was found to be 125 ng, which could be visually detected by naked eye within 15 min. There was no cross-reactivity observed with VP
non-AHPND
. Furthermore, the sensitivity and specificity of LFIA were 94.0% and 98.0%, respectively. The developed test strip could be a game changer for early and in situ diagnosis of AHPND.
In the present study, the synthesis of W‐modified TiO2/SiO2 composite and its catalytic activity in the visible light region is demonstrated. The W‐modified TiO2/SiO2 composite was obtained from the ...hydrolysis of a mixture containing titanium (IV) oxysulfate, ammonium metatungstate, and SiO2 powder in an alkaline medium. The obtained materials were characterized by using X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformation‐infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy dispersive X‐ray elemental mapping observation, nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, photoluminescence spectra (PL), and ultraviolet visible diffusive reflectance spectroscopy (UV‐Vis DRS). In this material, W‐modified TiO2 nanoparticles of about 3‐5 nm were highly dispersed on the silica network. Both W‐modified TiO2 and W‐modified TiO2 decorated on the SiO2 substrate significantly promoted the visible light absorption of the material. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared catalyst was assessed through the photodegradation of Methylene blue, Rhodamine‐B, Methyl orange, and Congo red dyes under visible light illumination. It was found that the kinetic and equilibrium data of the photocatalytic process fitted the modified Langmuir‐Hinshelwood model well. Recyclable studies have shown that the catalyst still retained its original activity after the third cycle.
Trans-resveratrol (Res) is a well-known natural stilbene frequently found in grapes which have been reported to possess antioxidant, anti-cancer activities and inhibited COX-2 expression. MicroRNAs ...(miRNAs) are short endogenous non-coding RNAs involved in the regulation of mRNA stability and protein synthesis. In our research, resveratrol isolated from Vitis heyneana Roem. & Schult Vitis heyneana was observed to suppress lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-induced COX-2 expression in Raw264.7 cells in a dose dependent manner. Using qPCR it was revealed that LPS induced the expression of miR-25, miR- 125a, miR-125b, miR-146a-5p, miR-146a-3p and miR-455. However, we only observed miR-146a-5p expression significantly decreased in resveratrol compared to untreated-control group. In addition, resveratrol abrogated the effect of miR-146a-5p mimic induced-COX-2 expression in Raw264.7 cells. Taken together, this study demonstrated for the first time the involvement of miR-146a-5p in resveratrol inhibited LPS-induced COX-2 expression in Raw264.7 cells.
