This study was conducted to evaluate the health risk associated to yard waste generation in rural area of Irhambi Katana in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Quantities of wastes produced per ...household in six Irhambi Katana villages as well as microbiological analysis of wastes samples were performed. Health centers data were analyzed and wastes contribution in soil nutrients was determined. The households of Irhambi Katana Sub County produce an average of 0.3 Kg of wastes per day. These domestic solid wastes embody many pathogenic agents such as Balantidium coli, Shigella flexneri, Ascaris lombricoïdes and Escherichia coli which can be associated to diarrhea diseases currently encountered in the statistics of health centers such as ascardiose, shigelose, amibiase and cholera. In addition these solid waste have high organic nutrients content such as nitrogen and phosphorus (1272 mg P/kg; 8.89 % N) in the wastes. A sensitization of the population on domestic solid wastes management to avoid diseases due to poor waste management and the use of domestic waste for compost are recommended.
The sugar industry produces a huge quantity of sugar cane bagasse ash in India. Dumping massive quantities of waste in a non-eco-friendly manner is a key concern for developing nations. The main ...focus of this study is the development of a sustainable geomaterial composite with higher strength capabilities (compressive and flexural). To develop this composite, sugarcane bagasse ash (SA), glass fiber (GF), and blast furnace slag (BF) are used. Ash generated from burning sugar cane in the sugar industry is known as sugar cane bagasse. To check the suitability of this secondary waste for use in civil engineering and to minimize risk to the environment in the development of sustainable growth, a sequence of compressive and flexural strength tests was performed on materials prepared using sugar cane bagasse ash (SA) reinforced by glass fiber (GF) in combination with blast furnace slag (BF) and cement (CEM). The effects of the mix ratios of glass fiber to bagasse ash (0.2%–1.2%), blast furnace slag to the weight of bagasse ash (10%), cement binding to bagasse ash (10%–20%), and water to sugar cane bagasse ash (55%) regarding the flexural strength, compressive strength, density, tangent modulus, stress–strain pattern, and load–deflection curve of the prepared materials were studied. According to the findings, compressive strength achieved a maximum strength of 1055.5 kPa and ranged from 120 to 1055.5 kPa, and the flexural strength achieved a maximum strength of 217 kPa and ranged from 80.1 to 217 kPa at different mix ratio percentages. The value of the initial tangent modulus for the cube specimens ranged between 96 and 636 MPa. For compression specimens with 20% cement, the density decreased from 1320.1 to 1265 kg/m

, and the flexural strength decreased from 1318 to 1259.6 kg/m

. With limitation in lower percentages of C/SA, the specimen cannot sustain its shape even after curing period. In comparing the previous research with the present experimental work, it was observed that the material proposed here is lightweight and can be utilised as a filler substance in weak compressible soils to improve their load-bearing capacity.
•Microsegmentation suite that differentiates transition states from stable ERP microstates.•Differentiation of event-related brain microstates from changes in global field power.•Integrated within- ...and between-subject bootstrapping procedures to assess solution robustness.•Microstate algorithm to promote mapping both which and when brain regions is activated by a task.
Since Berger's first EEG recordings in 1929, several techniques, initially developed for investigating periodic processes, have been applied to study non-periodic event-related brain state dynamics.
We provide a theoretical comparison of the two approaches and present a new suite of data-driven analytic tools for the specific identification of the brain microstates in high-density event-related brain potentials (ERPs). This suite includes four different analytic methods. We validated this approach through a series of theoretical simulations and an empirical investigation of a basic visual paradigm, the reversal checkerboard task.
Results indicate that the present suite of data-intensive analytic techniques, improves the spatiotemporal information one can garner about non-periodic brain microstates from high-density electrical neuroimaging data.
Compared to the existing methods (such as those based on k-clustering methods), the current micro-segmentation approach offers several advantages, including the data-driven (automatic) detection of non-periodic quasi-stable brain states.
This suite of quantitative methods allows the automatic detection of event-related changes in the global pattern of brain activity, putatively reflecting changes in the underlying neural locus for information processing in the brain, and event-related changes in overall brain activation. In addition, within-subject and between-subject bootstrapping procedures provide a quantitative means of investigating how robust are the results of the micro-segmentation.

Fail-slow hardware is an under-studied failure mode. We present a study of 114 reports of fail-slow hardware incidents, collected from large-scale cluster deployments in 14 institutions. We show that ...all hardware types such as disk, SSD, CPU, memory, and network components can exhibit performance faults. We made several important observations such as faults convert from one form to another, the cascading root causes and impacts can be long, and fail-slow faults can have varying symptoms. From this study, we make suggestions to vendors, operators, and systems designers.
