KASCADE has been designed to measure air showers of primary cosmic-ray energies in the PeV region and to investigate the
knee phenomenon in the all-particle energy spectrum. Several observations are ...measured simultaneously for each event by different detector systems. The experiment started to take data in 1996 and has been completed and extended since then. The individual detector systems and their performances are described. Also, the experience in long-term operation of the experiment and the interplay between different components is outlined.
We present the results of an analysis of the large-scale anisotropy of cosmic rays in the PeV range. The Rayleigh formalism is applied to the right ascension distribution of extensive air showers ...measured by the KASCADE (Karlsruhe Shower Core and Array Detector) experiment. The data set contains about 10 super(8) extensive air showers in the energy range 0.7-6 PeV. No hints of anisotropy are visible in the right ascension distributions in this energy range. This accounts for all showers, as well as for subsets containing showers induced by predominantly light or heavy primary particles, respectively. Upper flux limits for Rayleigh amplitudes are determined to be between 10 super(-3) at a primary energy of 0.7 PeV and 10 super(-2) at 6 PeV.
We report the first discovery of a fast radio burst (FRB), FRB 20200125A, by the Green Bank Northern Celestial Cap (GBNCC) Pulsar Survey conducted with the Green Bank Telescope at 350 MHz. FRB ...20200125A was detected at a Galactic latitude of 58 43 with a dispersion measure of 179 pc cm3, while electron density models predict a maximum Galactic contribution of 25 pc cm3 along this line of sight. Moreover, no apparent Galactic foreground sources of ionized gas that could account for the excess DM are visible in multiwavelength surveys of this region. This argues that the source is extragalactic. The maximum redshift for the host galaxy is zmax = 0.17, corresponding to a maximum comoving distance of approximately 750 Mpc. The measured peak flux density for FRB 20200125A is 0.37 Jy, and we measure a pulse width of 3.7 ms, consistent with the distribution of FRB widths observed at higher frequencies. Based on this detection and assuming a Euclidean flux density distribution of FRBs, we calculate an all-sky rate at 350 MHz of FRBs sky−1 day−1 above a peak flux density of 0.42 Jy for an unscattered pulse having an intrinsic width of 5 ms, consistent with rates reported at higher frequencies, albeit with large uncertainties. Given the recent improvements in our single-pulse search pipeline, we also revisit the GBNCC survey sensitivity to various burst properties. Finally, we find no evidence of strong interstellar scattering in FRB 20200125A, adding to the growing evidence that some FRBs have circumburst environments where free-free absorption and scattering are not significant.
Measurements of electron, muon and hadron lateral distributions of extensive air showers as recorded in the Karlsruhe shower core and array detector experiment are presented. The data cover the ...energy range from 5×10
14 eV up to almost 10
17 eV and extend from the inner core region to distances of 200 m. The electron and muon distributions are corrected for mutual contaminations by taking into account the detector properties in the experiment. All distributions are well described by NKG functions. The scale radii describing the electron and hadron data best are ≃30 and ≃10 m, respectively. We discuss the correlation between the scale radii and the `age' parameter as well as their dependence on shower size, zenith angle, and particle energy threshold.
The Green Bank North Celestial Cap (GBNCC) pulsar survey will cover the entire northern sky (δ > −40°) at 350 MHz, and is one of the most uniform and sensitive all-sky pulsar surveys to date. We have ...created a pipeline to reanalyze GBNCC survey data to take a 350 MHz census of all pulsars detected by the survey, regardless of their discovery survey. Of the 1413 pulsars in the survey region, we were able to recover 670. For these we present measured signal-to-noise ratios (S/N), flux densities, pulse widths, profiles, and where appropriate, refined measurements of dispersion measures (DMs) (656 out of 670) and new or improved spectral indices (339 out of 670 total, 47 new, 292 improved). We also measure the period-pulse width relation at 350 MHz to scale as . Detection scans for several hundred sources were reanalyzed in order to inspect pulsars' single pulse behavior and 223 were found to exhibit evidence of nulling. With a detailed analysis of measured and expected S/N values and the evolving radio frequency interference environment at 350 MHz, we assess the GBNCC survey's sensitivity as a function of spin period, DM, and sky position. We find the sky-averaged limiting flux density of the survey to be 0.74 mJy. Combining this analysis with PsrPopPy pulsar population simulations, we predict 60/5 nonrecycled/MSP discoveries in the survey's remaining 21,000 pointings, and we begin to place constraints on population model parameters.
Low-frequency gravitational-wave experiments require the highest timing precision from an array of the most stable millisecond pulsars. Several known sources of noise on short timescales in single ...radio pulsar observations are well described by a simple model of three components: template fitting from a finite signal-to-noise ratio, pulse phase/amplitude jitter from single-pulse stochasticity, and scintillation errors from short-timescale interstellar scattering variations. Currently template-fitting errors dominate, but as radio telescopes push toward higher signal-to-noise ratios, jitter becomes the next dominant term for most millisecond pulsars. Understanding the statistics of jitter becomes crucial for properly characterizing arrival time uncertainties. We characterize the radio frequency dependence of jitter using data on 48 pulsars in the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves timing program. We detect significant jitter in 43 of the pulsars and test several functional forms for its frequency dependence; we find significant frequency dependence for 30 pulsars. We find moderate correlations of rms jitter with pulse width (R = 0.62) and number of profile components (R = 0.40); the single-pulse rms jitter is typically 1% of pulse phase. The average frequency dependence for all pulsars using a power-law model has index −0.42. We investigate the jitter variations for the interpulse of PSR B1937+21 and find no significant deviations from the main pulse rms jitter. We also test the time variation of jitter in two pulsars and find that systematics likely bias the results for high-precision pulsars. Pulsar timing array analyses must properly model jitter as a significant component of the noise within the detector.
A survey of the northern hemisphere for astrophysical point sources with continuous emission of high-energy cosmic rays is presented. Around 4.7 x 10 super(7) extensive air showers with primary ...energies above ~300 TeV measured by the KASCADE detector field are selected for this analysis. Besides the sky survey, a search for signal excess in the regions of the Galactic plane and of selected point-source candidates has been performed. There is no evidence for any significant excess. This is valid for an analysis of all recorded showers, as well as for a data set enhanced by gamma-ray-induced showers. An upper flux limit of around 3 x 10 super(-10) m super(-2) s super(-1) for a steady point source that transits the zenith is obtained. Additionally, the distribution of the arrival directions of extensive air showers with energies above 80 PeV was studied by an autocorrelation analysis.

Introduction
Patient engagement is essential in the development of high-quality and relevant guidelines for osteoporosis management. Osteoporosis Canada (OC) is updating its national clinical practice guidelines in collaboration with people living with osteoporosis in the process.
Methods
Using electronic mail, we contacted 6937 members of the Canadian Osteoporosis Patient Network (COPN) to provide input on the selection of relevant content, outcomes, and research questions via a self-administered online survey. Close-ended questions were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and conventional content analysis was conducted for open-ended questions.
Results
A total of 1108 individuals completed the survey (97% women, 86% stated they lived with osteoporosis). Most participants considered it critical to have recommendations on physical activity and exercise (74%), fall prevention (69%), nutrition (68%), and initial bone mineral density testing (67%). In addition to preventing fractures, over 75% of respondents stated that consideration of preserving quality of life and ability to perform daily activities, preventing admission to long-term care and fracture-related death, and avoiding serious harms from medications were essential outcomes to consider in evaluating the evidence. In terms of selection of research questions, seven themes emerged from the content analysis including pharmacotherapy, screening and monitoring, diet and supplements, education, exercise, alternative therapies, and pain management.
Conclusions
Patients emphasized that autonomy, mobility, and quality of life are highly valued outcomes and must be integral to practice guideline development. As expected, guidance on pharmacotherapy, screening and monitoring, and fracture prevention were priorities identified to be included in osteoporosis management guidelines.
The flux of cosmic-ray-induced single hadrons near sea level has been measured with the large hadron calorimeter of the KASCADE experiment. The measurement corroborates former results obtained with ...detectors of smaller size if the enlarged veto of the 304 m super(2) calorimeter surface is accounted for. The program CORSIKA/QGSJET is used to compute the cosmic-ray flux above the atmosphere. Between E sub(0) = 300 GeV and 1 PeV the primary proton spectrum can be described with a power law parameterized as dJ/dE sub(0) = (0.15 plus or minus 0.03)Eimage m super(-2) s super(-1) sr super(-1) TeV super(-1). At the lower energy end the proton flux compares well with the results from recent direct measurements.
