The classic regularization theory for solving inverse problems is built on the assumption that the forward operator perfectly represents the underlying physical model of the data acquisition. ...However, in many applications, for instance in microscopy or magnetic particle imaging, this is not the case. Another important example represent dynamic inverse problems, where changes of the searched-for quantity during data collection can be interpreted as model uncertainties. In this article, we propose a regularization strategy for linear inverse problems with inexact forward operator based on sequential subspace optimization methods (SESOP). In order to account for local modelling errors, we suggest to combine SESOP with the Kaczmarz' method. We study convergence and regularization properties of the proposed method and discuss several practical realizations. Relevance and performance of our approach are evaluated at simulated data from dynamic computerized tomography with various dynamic scenarios.
Data on the beam asymmetry Σ in the photoproduction of η mesons off protons are reported for tagged photon energies from 1130 to 1790 MeV (mass range from W = 1748 MeV to W = 2045 MeV). The data ...cover the full solid angle that allows for a precise moment analysis. For the first time, a strong cusp effect in a polarization observable has been observed that is an effect of a branch-point singularity at the pη′ threshold Eγ = 1447 MeV (W = 1896 MeV). The latest BnGa partial wave analysis includes the new beam asymmetry data and yields a strong indication for the N (1895)1/2− nucleon resonance, demonstrating the importance of including all singularities for a correct determination of partial waves and resonance parameters.

The reaction γp→pπ0η has been studied with the CBELSA/TAPS detector at the electron stretcher accelerator ELSA in Bonn for incident photon energies from threshold up to 3.1 GeV. This paper has been ...motivated by the recently claimed observation of a narrow structure in the MNη invariant mass distribution at a mass of 1678MeV/c2. The existence of this structure cannot be confirmed in the present work. Instead, for Eγ = 1400–1500 MeV and the cut Mpπ0≤1190MeV/c2 a statistically significant structure in the Mpη invariant mass distribution near 1700 MeV/c2 is observed with a width of Γ≈35MeV/c2 while the mass resolution is σres = 5 MeV/c2. Increasing the incident photon energy from 1420 to 1540 MeV this structure shifts in mass from ≈ 1700 MeV/c2 to ≈ 1725 MeV/c2; the width increases to about 50 MeV/c2 and decreases thereafter. The cross section associated with this structure reaches a maximum of ≈ 100 nb around Eγ≈ 1490 MeV (W ≈ 1920 MeV), which coincides with the pa0 threshold. Three scenarios are discussed which might be the origin of this structure in the Mpη invariant mass distribution. The most likely interpretation is that it is due to a triangular singularity in the γp→pa0→pπ0η reaction.

From porcine duodenal mucosa we have identified three major procholecystokinin (proCCK) fragments: desoctaCCK-33, desnonaCCK-33 and desnonaCCK-39. (DesoctaCCK-33 means CCK-33 devoid of the 8 ...C-terminal amino acids, etc.). The fragments were purified by immunoaffinity chromatography and three steps of reverse phase HPLC monitored by a radioimmunoassay specific for the N-terminal part of CCK-33. The structures could be deduced from the proCCK sequence by N-terminal sequence determination and mass spectrometry. Whereas desnona-fragments of CCK have been described before, this is the first finding of a desoctaCCK, and it indicates that CCK-8 is released from the longer forms by endogenous cleavage of the Arg-Asp-bond. A carboxypeptidase B-like exopeptidase subsequently must produce the desnona-fragments by removing the arginine residue.
The hemostyptic agent used in this study is a recently developed material that consists of a collagen fleece containing fibrinogen, thrombin, and aprotinin integrated into its surface (FTCH) with ...excellent topical hemostyptic properties. The potential use of this substance for cardiovascular surgery was evaluated in a canine arterial bleeding model, which allowed comparison of the new agent with previously used pure collagen (CHF) as well as study of the hemostyptic under elevated blood pressure conditions. The results revealed that FTCH induced reliable hemostasis in 10-mm injuries of the canine hypogastric artery up to a systolic blood pressure of 260 mmHg, whereas bleeding control by CHF alone was impossible. To assess the long-term reliability of FTCH, the dogs were re-explored at intervals of 14 and 31 days after operation. At relaparotomy, the arteries were patent and there was no evidence of recurrent bleeding, thrombosis formation, or aneurysmatic changes. Histologic examinations showed well-healed vascular lesions covered by cell-depleted collagen tissue and a partially resorped hemostyptic. FTCH will not replace adequate surgical techniques but could be useful as a quickly available and easily applicable hemostatic means in otherwise uncontrollable diffuse or acute bleeding in cardiovascular surgery.
