Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis in a rare pustular exanthem that is most commonly drug induced. We report a case occurring secondary to diltiazem therapy and briefly review the typical ...characteristics of this entity.
Middle and lower Ordovician gastropods have not previously been described from Alaska, and the genus Helicotoma Salter has not been reported from western and arctic North America with the exception ...of one locality in California (Rohr, 1980). Like many other Paleozoic gastropod genera, Helicotoma has several species assigned to it, but the species are often based on poor material and, in some cases, on a single specimen. This lack of knowledge of variation within the species as well as the detailed features of the shell make further interpretations of the gastropods difficult. The occurrence of relatively abundant, well-preserved Helicotoma specimens in Alaska is important for biogeographic and biostratigraphic studies of lower Paleozoic mollusks.

Conventional and organic apple production systems in Sonoma County, CA, were compared in terms of tree growth, fruit yield and quality, biological and chemical nutrient supply, disease and insect ...pest damage, and economic performance over 4 yr. Management practices for fertility, fruit size, and pests are described. Pheromone dispensers were used in a codling moth mating disruption test. Codling moths caused more damage in pheromone confusion plots than in insecticide-treated plots. Fertility maintenance was easily achieved in both agricultural systems. There were no significant differences in fruit size between the two systems. The organic system was more expensive and more complicated to manage, and higher prices for organically grown fruit were not enough to justify losses, increased management needs, and higher financial risk.
A brachiopod--gastropod assemblage of Late Ordovician age from the Lone Mountain area, McGrath quadrangle, west-central Alaska contains 15 species of gastropods including Pseudocryptaenia? majewskei ...n. sp. and Trochonemella churkini n. sp. In addition to the typical Ordovician gastropods present, such as Maclurites, three genera previously known only from the Silurian were recovered: Euomphalopterus, Pseudophorus, and Oriostoma?. The fauna is from strata that have been interpreted by some as being allochthonous in relation to cratonic North America. The paleobiogeographic affinities of the gastropods are not conclusive by themselves, but are consistent with our view, supported by the paleobiogeographic affinities of other Paleozoic faunas of the region and lithofacies analysis and paleomagnetism, that these strata are part of a southwest-trending miogeoclinal belt that extends along the Paleozoic North American continental margin from Canada and east-central Alaska across the Tintina Fault into southwestern and Interior Alaska.
Two new spine-bearing gastropods, Chlupacispira spinosa n. gen. and sp. and Spinulrichospira cheeneetnukensis n. gen. and sp., are described from the late Early Devonian (Emsian) and early Middle ...Devonian (Eifelian), respectively, of west-central Alaska. These represent the earliest reported spiny pleurotomariacean gastropods. Otherwise, spinose pleurotomariaceans are known from strata no older than Carboniferous age. Spinulrichospira cheeneetnukensis n. gen. and sp. appears to represent a more highly ornamented derivative of Ulrichospira Donald. Both new genera are part of the more highly ornamented fauna which occurred in warm equatorial waters of the Old World Realm during the Early and Middle Devonian, in contrast to more weakly ornamented shells of the Eastern Americas Realm and even more weakly ornamented (almost totally “plain”) shells of the Malvinokaffric Realm. The latter two realms are thought to represent subtropical to warm temperate and cool temperate to cool polar conditions, respectively.

We describe a relatively uncommon and poorly understood relationship between a particularly severe form of acne and an associated arthritis. Two young men are described, 1 of whom possesses the ...HLA-B27 antigen. Their clinical courses are described, responses to therapeutic intervention outlined, and some speculation regarding etiology is made. A review of the literature is included. The prognosis is uncertain, since 1 of the patients has sacroiliitis.
The atrypid brachiopod Strophatrypa skaflestadi gen. et sp. nov. occurs in unnamed upper Silurian strata exposed near the town of Hoonah on northeast Chichagof Island, Southeast Alaska. The new genus ...represents the first strophic atrypoid with many characters otherwise similar to those of the Atrypidae. Although this genus is known from only a single bed at one Alaskan locality, its unique morphology is worth noting in anticipation that similar forms may be discovered elsewhere in the Alexander terrane, or especially somewhere in Siberia where other taxa restricted to the Silurian of the Alexander terrane are shared. This paper represents a further contribution to our limited knowledge of the Silurian brachiopods of the Alexander terrane of Southeast Alaska.
