Opioid misuse and dependence are major medical and social concerns worldwide. Buprenorphine/naloxone combination (BNC) is a drug that has misuse potential and is used to treat opioid dependence, ...including buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine shows its pharmacological effects by binding to opioid receptors. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and has smaller maximal effects compared to those of full agonists (heroin, methadone). Naloxone is a non-selective opiate antagonist added to buprenorphine for the prevention of intravenous diversion. BNC is used in the treatment of opioid dependence for detoxification and maintenance. The drug should be used as a sublingual film tablet. Pregabalin is used in the treatment of neuropathic pain, epilepsy and anxiety disorders. It is increasingly being reported as possessing a potential for misuse. In this article, we present a case of intravenous BNC and concomitant oral pregabalin misuse that developed in a monitored and treated patient for the reason of opioid dependence.
We report the first search result for the flux of astrophysical electron antineutrinos for energies O(10) MeV in the gadolinium-loaded Super-Kamiokande (SK) detector. In June 2020, gadolinium was ...introduced to the ultra-pure water of the SK detector in order to detect neutrons more efficiently. In this new experimental phase, SK-Gd, we can search for electron antineutrinos via inverse beta decay with efficient background rejection and higher signal efficiency thanks to the high efficiency of the neutron tagging technique. In this paper, we report the result for the initial stage of SK-Gd with a $22.5\times552$$\rm kton\cdot day$ exposure at 0.01% Gd mass concentration. No significant excess over the expected background in the observed events is found for the neutrino energies below 31.3 MeV. Thus, the flux upper limits are placed at the 90% confidence level. The limits and sensitivities are already comparable with the previous SK result with pure-water ($22.5 \times 2970 \rm kton\cdot day$) owing to the enhanced neutron tagging.
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) First Target Station (FTS), used by the COHERENT experiment, provides an intense and extremely high-quality source of pulsed ...stopped-pion neutrinos, with energies up to about 50 MeV. Upgrades to the SNS are planned, including a Second Target Station (STS), which will approximately double the expected neutrino flux while maintaining quality similar to the FTS source. Furthermore, additional space for ten-tonne scale detectors may be available. We describe here exciting opportunities for neutrino physics, other particle and nuclear physics, and detector development using the FTS and STS neutrino sources.
The COHERENT experiment located in Neutrino Alley at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has made the world's first two measurements of coherent elastic ...neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS), on CsI and argon, using neutrinos produced at the SNS. The COHERENT collaboration continues to pursue CEvNS measurements on various targets as well as additional studies of inelastic neutrino-nucleus interactions, searches for accelerator-produced dark matter (DM) and physics beyond the Standard Model, using the uniquely high-quality and high-intensity neutrino source available at the SNS. This white paper describes primarily COHERENT's ongoing and near-future program at the SNS First Target Station (FTS). Opportunities enabled by the SNS Second Target Station (STS) for the study of neutrino physics and development of novel detector technologies are elaborated in a separate white paper.
In this study, weathering effect on untreated textile fiber-reinforced polymer composites and the effect of different chemical treatments for better interfacial adhesion on the outdoor performance ...were investigated. Degradation of physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of textile fiber-reinforced polymer composites was evaluated through common chemical treatments such as maleated coupling, alkaline treatment, silane treatment, and alkali–silane treatment. Untreated and chemically treated textile fiber-reinforced polymer composites were subjected to water uptake and UV exposure up to 1000 h. Tensile and impact properties were mechanically examined, and the changes on the physical properties due to water uptake, swelling, and color change were investigated. In addition, Fourier transform infrared spectrum analysis was performed in order to evaluate the chemical changes after exposure.
In this paper, single-phase soft-switching power factor correction (PFC) circuit is developed with a new active snubber cell. This active snubber cell provides zero-voltage transition turn ON and ...zero-current transition turn OFF for the main switch without any extra current or voltage stresses. Auxiliary switch is turned ON and OFF with zero-current switching (ZCS) without additional voltage stress. Although, there is a current stress on the auxiliary switch, it is decreased by diverting a part of the current to the output side with coupling inductance. The output current and voltage are controlled by the proposed PFC converter in very wide line and load range. This PFC converter has simple structure, low cost, and ease of control as well. In this study, a detailed steady-state analysis of the new converter is presented, and this theoretical analysis is verified exactly by 100 kHz and 300 W prototypes. This prototype has 98% total efficiency and 0.99 power factor with sinusoidal current shape.
In this study, waste cotton fabric reinforced polymer matrix composite plate has been processed by a-custom-made recycling extruder. Two different (12.5% and 25% fibers by weight) waste fabric ...reinforced composite plates were produced and reprocessed six times to assess repetition effect of processing on the mechanical and rheological properties on plates. Effects of reprocessing were evaluated by the tensile testing and impact testing besides SEM, DSC, XRD and MFI rheological and characterization analysis. Test results of composite plates were compared with the pure low density polyethylene (LDPE) plate. Test results show that the tensile strength was increased till the 4th reprocessing step while reducing impact properties. In further reprocessing, tensile properties have been decreased as a consequence of the fabric/fiber damage. Thermal effect of reprocessing was limited according to the comprehensive characterization and rheological analysis.
Surgical treatment is indicated for Chiari malformation type 1 (CMI) with tonsillar descent (TD) of >5 mm and other clinical manifestations. However, some patients remain unresponsive to surgery; ...this is an active topic of discussion. A patient presented to the emergency department with dizziness and an impaired gait. He had a history of hypertension. Magnetic resonance investigations revealed a 9-mm TD and cervical syringomyelia. There was no evidence of interatrial septum pathology on transthoracic echocardiography performed preoperatively. Although his complaints were attributed to CMI and surgery was performed, his symptoms remained persistent. Two years later, when the patient's dizziness increased, a posterior fossa transient ischemic attack (TIA) was suspected. A large patent foramen ovale (PFO) and Chiari network (CN) were also detected on transesophageal echocardiography. His complaints were resolved following PFO closure. Our case suggests that neurosurgeons should be informed about the results of the companionship of a PFO and CN. Before deciding on CMI surgery for patients with only dizziness complaints, a detailed investigation of accompanying cardiac pathologies is paramount to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
