An extended version of the CALICE silicon–tungsten ECAL, with 15 active layers, was tested in November 2021 at the DESY beam test facility. Respectively with the previous design, it featured some ...complete layers with a thin PCB design, and a new compact DAQ handling 15 layers in a common set. The noise, self-trigger performance and response to punch-though electrons, without tungsten absorbers, was evaluated for each of the 15,360 channels, using an improved procedure. Showers of low-energy electrons (1 to 5 GeV) have been recorded in two configuration of absorber, and are being analysed. Some preliminary results will be shown here.

The technological prototype of the CALICE highly granular silicon–tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter (SiW-ECAL) was tested in a beam at DESY in 2017. The setup comprised seven layers of silicon ...sensors. Each layer comprised four sensors, with each sensor containing an array of 256 5.5×5.5 mm2 silicon PIN diodes. The four sensors covered a total area of 18 × 18 cm and comprised a total of 1024 channels. The readout was split into a trigger line and a charge signal line. Key performance results for signal over noise for the two output lines are presented, together with a study of the uniformity of the detector response. Measurements of the response to electrons for the tungsten loaded version of the detector are also presented.
The ILD Si-W ECAL is a sampling calorimeter with tungsten absorber and highly segmented silicon layers for the International Large Detector (ILD), one of the two detector concepts for the ...International Linear Collider. SKIROC2 is an ASIC for the ILD Si-W ECAL. To investigate the issues found in prototype detectors, we prepared dedicated ASIC evaluation boards with either BGA sockets or directly soldered SKIROC2. We report a performance study with the evaluation boards, including signal-to-noise ratio and TDC performance with comparing SKIROC2 and an updated version, SKIROC2A.

The HERA luminosity was determined by measuring the flux of bremsstrahlung photons emitted at zero degree off electrons in the field of protons in the interaction region. After the HERA upgrade, the ...H1 Collaboration developed a new luminosity system which measured all the emitted photons in a bunch crossing. We describe the expression of this photon flux in the luminosity detector which is used in the simulation of the detector. The total energy method, based on the measurement of the bremsstrahlung photon energy flux in the calorimeter, is the standard method for the off-line luminosity measurement. In this study, we propose a new method to calculate the luminosity. This new method is based on the shape of the bremsstrahlung photon energy spectrum measured in the luminosity detector. The two methods are compared. A good agreement is observed.
A sampling calorimeter using gaseous sensor layers with digital readout 1 is near perfect for "Particle Flow Algorithm" 2,3 approach, since it is homogeneous over large surfaces, robust, cost ...efficient, easily segmentable to any readout pad dimension and size and almost insensitive to neutrons. Monte-Carlo (MC) programs such as GEANT4 4 simulate with high precision the energy deposited by particles. The sensor and electronic response associated to a pad are calculated in a separate "digitization" process. We develop a general method for simulating the pad response using the spatial information from a simulation done at high granularity. The digitization method proposed here has been applied to gaseous detectors including Glass Resistive Plate Chambers (GRPC) and MicroMegas, and validated on test beam data. Experimental observable such as pad multiplicity and mean number of hits at different thresholds have been reproduced with high precision.

Calorimeters with silicon detectors have many unique features and are proposed for several world-leading experiments. We discuss the tests of the first three 18×18 cm2 layers segmented into 1024 ...pixels of the technological prototype of the silicon-tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter for a future e+e− collider. The tests have beem performed in November 2015 at CERN SPS beam line.
A new design of highly granular hadronic calorimeter using Glass Resistive Plate Chambers (GRPCs) with embedded electronics has been proposed for the future International Linear Collider (ILC) ...experiments. It features a 2-bit threshold semi-digital read-out. Several GRPC prototypes with their electronics have been successfully built and tested in pion beams. The design of these detectors is presented along with the test results on efficiency, pad multiplicity, stability and reproducibility.
After the Higgs discovery, precise measurements of the Higgs properties and the electroweak observables become vital for the experimental particle physics. A powerful Higgs/Z factory, the Circular ...Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is proposed. The Particle Flow oriented detector design is proposed to the CEPC and a Particle Flow algorithm, Arbor is optimized accordingly. We summarize the physics object reconstruction performance of the Particle Flow oriented detector design with Arbor algorithm and conclude that this combination fulfills the physics requirement of CEPC.
