An overview of Sun–Sky Radiometer Observation Network (SONET) measurements in China is presented. Based on observations at 16 distributed SONET sites in China, atmospheric aerosol parameters are ...acquired via standardization processes of operational measurement, maintenance, calibration, inversion, and quality control implemented since 2010. A climatology study is performed focusing on total columnar atmospheric aerosol characteristics, including optical (aerosol optical depth, ÅngstrÖm exponent, fine-mode fraction, single-scattering albedo), physical (volume particle size distribution), chemical composition (black carbon; brown carbon; fine-mode scattering component, coarse-mode component; and aerosol water), and radiative properties (aerosol radiative forcing and efficiency). Data analyses show that aerosol optical depth is low in the west but high in the east of China. Aerosol composition also shows significant spatial and temporal variations, leading to noticeable diversities in optical and physical property patterns. In west and north China, aerosols are generally affected by dust particles, while monsoon climate and human activities impose remarkable influences on aerosols in east and south China. Aerosols in China exhibit strong light-scattering capability and result in significant radiative cooling effects.

The amyloid-β protein (Aβ) protein plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). It is believed that Aβ deposited in the brain originates from the brain tissue itself. ...However, Aβ is generated in both brain and peripheral tissues. Whether circulating Aβ contributes to brain AD-type pathologies remains largely unknown. In this study, using a model of parabiosis between APPswe/PS1dE9 transgenic AD mice and their wild-type littermates, we observed that the human Aβ originated from transgenic AD model mice entered the circulation and accumulated in the brains of wild-type mice, and formed cerebral amyloid angiopathy and Aβ plaques after a 12-month period of parabiosis. AD-type pathologies related to the Aβ accumulation including tau hyperphosphorylation, neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation and microhemorrhage were found in the brains of the parabiotic wild-type mice. More importantly, hippocampal CA1 long-term potentiation was markedly impaired in parabiotic wild-type mice. To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first to reveal that blood-derived Aβ can enter the brain, form the Aβ-related pathologies and induce functional deficits of neurons. Our study provides novel insight into AD pathogenesis and provides evidence that supports the development of therapies for AD by targeting Aβ metabolism in both the brain and the periphery.
Reduced expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), which is characterized with the formation of neuritic plaques ...consisting of amyloid-beta (Aβ) and neurofibrillary tangles composed of hyperphosphorylated tau protein. A growing body of evidence indicates a potential protective effect of BDNF against Aβ-induced neurotoxicity in AD mouse models. However, the direct therapeutic effect of BDNF supplement on tauopathy in AD remains to be established. Here, we found that the BDNF level was reduced in the serum and brain of AD patients and P301L transgenic mice (a mouse model of tauopathy). Intralateral ventricle injection of adeno-associated virus carrying the gene encoding human BDNF (AAV-BDNF) achieved stable expression of BDNF gene and restored the BDNF level in the brains of P301L mice. Restoration of the BDNF level attenuated behavioral deficits, prevented neuron loss, alleviated synaptic degeneration and reduced neuronal abnormality, but did not affect tau hyperphosphorylation level in the brains of P301L mice. Long-term expression of AAV-BDNF in the brain was well tolerated by the mice. These findings suggest that the gene delivery of BDNF is a promising treatment for tau-related neurodegeneration for AD and other neurodegenerative disorders with tauopathy.
ABSTRACT
The High Energy (HE) X-ray telescope on board the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) can serve as a wide field of view (FOV) gamma-ray monitor with high time resolution (μs) and ...large effective area (up to thousands cm2). We developed a pipeline to search for gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), using the traditional signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) method for blind search and the coherent search method for targeted search. By taking into account the location and spectrum of the burst and the detector response, the targeted coherent search is more powerful to unveil weak and sub-threshold bursts, especially those in temporal coincidence with gravitational wave (GW) events. Based on the original method in literature, we further improved the coherent search to filter out false triggers caused by spikes in light curves, which are commonly seen in gamma-ray instruments (e.g. Fermi/GBM, POLAR). We show that our improved targeted coherent search method could eliminate almost all false triggers caused by spikes. Based on the first two years of Insight-HXMT/HE data, our targeted search recovered 40 GRBs, which were detected by either Swift/BAT or Fermi/GBM but too weak to be found in our blind search. With this coherent search pipeline, the GRB detection sensitivity of Insight-HXMT/HE is increased to about 1.5E-08 erg cm−2 (200 keV–3 MeV). We also used this targeted coherent method to search Insight-HXMT/HE data for electromagnetic counterparts of LIGO-Virgo GW events (including O2 and O3a runs). However, we did not find any significant burst associated with GW events.
ABSTRACT
We report the evolution of the X-ray pulsations of EXO 2030+375 during its 2021 outburst using the observations from Insight-HXMT. Based on the accretion torque model, we study the ...correlation between the spin frequency derivatives and the luminosity. Pulsations can be detected in the energy band of 1–160 keV. The pulse profile evolves significantly with luminosity during the outburst, leading to that the whole outburst can be divided into several parts with different characteristics. The evolution of the pulse profile reveals the transition between the supercritical (fan-beam dominated) and the subcritical accretion (pencil-beam dominated) mode. From the accretion torque model and the critical luminosity model, based on a distance of 7.1 kpc, the inferred magnetic fields are (0.41 − 0.74) × 1012 and (3.48 − 3.96) × 1012 G, respectively, or based on a distance of 3.6 kpc, the estimated magnetic fields are (2.4 − 4.3) × 1013 and (0.98 − 1.11) × 1012 G, respectively. Two different sets of magnetic fields both support the presence of multipole magnetic fields of the neutron star.
Context.
A link has finally been established between magnetars and fast radio burst (FRB) sources. Within this context, a major issue that remains unresolved pertains to whether sources of ...extragalactic FRBs exhibit X/
γ
-ray outbursts and whether this is correlated with radio activity. If so, the subsequent goal is to identify these sources.
Aims.
We aim to constrain possible X/
γ
-ray burst activity from one of the nearest extragalactic FRB sources currently known. This is to be done over a broad energy range by looking for bursts over a range of timescales and energies that are compatible with those of powerful flares from extragalactic magnetars.
Methods.
We followed up on the observation of the as-yet nearest extragalactic FRB source, located at a mere 149 Mpc distance, namely, the periodic repeater
FRB 180916.J0158+65
. This took place during the active phase between 4 and 7 February 2020, using the Insight–Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight–HXMT). By taking advantage of the combination of broad-band wavelengths, a large effective area, and several independent detectors at our disposal, we searched for bursts over a set of timescales from 1 ms to 1.024 s with a sensitive algorithm that had been previously characterised and optimised. Moreover, through simulations, we studied the sensitivity of our technique in the released energy-duration phase space for a set of synthetic flares and assuming a range of different energy spectra.
Results.
We constrain the possible occurrence of flares in the 1−100 keV energy band to

< 10

erg for durations Δ
t
< 0.1 s over several tens of ks exposure.
Conclusions.
We can rule out the occurrence of giant flares similar to the ones that were observed in the few cases of Galactic magnetars. The absence of reported radio activity during our observations prevents us from making any determinations regarding the possibility of simultaneous high-energy emission.
After 34 yr, the black hole candidate EXO 1846-031 went into outburst again in 2019. We investigate its spectral properties in the hard intermediate and the soft states with NuSTAR and Insight-HXMT. ...A reflection component has been detected in the two spectral states but possibly originating from different illumination spectra: in the intermediate state, the illuminating source is attributed to a hard coronal component, which has been commonly observed in other X-ray binaries, whereas in the soft state, the reflection is probably produced by disk self-irradiation. Both cases support EXO 1846-031 as a low-inclination system of . An absorption line is clearly detected at ∼7.2 keV in the hard intermediate state, corresponding to a highly ionized disk wind ( ) with a velocity of up to 0.06c. Meanwhile, quasi-simultaneous radio emissions have been detected before and after the X-rays, implying the coexistence of disk winds and jets in this system. If only the high-flux segment of the NuSTAR observation is considered, the observed wind appears to be magnetically driven. The absorption line disappeared in the soft state and a narrow emission line appeared at ∼6.7 keV on top of the reflection component, which may be evidence for disk winds, but data with higher spectral resolution are required to examine this.
ABSTRACT
We investigate the absorption and emission features in observations of GX 301-2 detected with Insight-HXMT/LE in 2017–2019. At different orbital phases, we found prominent Fe Kα, Kβ, and Ni ...Kα lines, as well as Compton shoulders and Fe K-shell absorption edges. These features are due to the X-ray reprocessing caused by the interaction between the radiation from the source and surrounding accretion material. According to the ratio of iron lines (Kα and Kβ), we infer the accretion material is in a low ionization state. We find an orbital-dependent local absorption column density, which has a large value and strong variability around the periastron. We explain its variability as a result of inhomogeneities of the accretion environment and/or instabilities of accretion processes. In addition, the variable local column density is correlated with the equivalent width of the iron Kα lines throughout the orbit, which suggests that the accretion material near the neutron star is spherically distributed.
Monodisperse spinel CoFe2O4 nanoparticles have been synthesized through the solvothermal-assisted phase transfer method using aqueous soluble metal salts as starting materials and sodium oleate (SO) ...as the phase-transfer agent. The as-synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, ultraviolet and visible spectrophotometry and Mössbauer spectrum. The results revealed that the as-obtained nanoparticles have a cubic spinel structure and an average diameter of 2–6nm. It was found that SO played an important role during the transfer of the hydrophilic inorganic precursor from aqueous phase to the organic phase. On the basis of the experimental results, a possible mechanism for the formation of the nanoparticles was proposed. Surface functionalization of the as-prepared nanoparticles was conducted to render the hydrophobic nanoparticles water-soluble, which makes the nanoparticles suitable for catalytic applications. The nanoparticles showed catalytic activity in the oxidation of methylene blue with H2O2 as an oxidizing agent.

Abstract
In order to effectively reduce the structure height, this paper proposes a structure with integral connection of precast small box girders and CIP hidden bent cap. A 40% scale specimen was ...designed suitable for hidden bent cap system. To test the feasibility of the connection, a single girder model of test unit was established using finite element analysis program. The analysis results were used to predict the test results and to ensure that the behavior of the test specimens during the test was consistent with that of the prototype. The simulation results showed that the overall stress distribution was presented tensile at the top and compressive at the bottom, with the ratio of maximum tensile stress to maximum compressive stress at approximately 33%.
