Abstract The TOTEM collaboration has measured the elastic proton-proton differential cross section $$\mathrm{d}\sigma /\mathrm{d}t$$ d σ / d t at $$\sqrt{s}=13$$ s = 13 TeV LHC energy using ...dedicated $$\beta ^{*}=90$$ β ∗ = 90 m beam optics. The Roman Pot detectors were inserted to 10 $$\sigma $$ σ distance from the LHC beam, which allowed the measurement of the range 0.04 GeV $$^{2}$$ 2 ; 4 GeV $$^{2}$$ 2 $$$$ in four-momentum transfer squared | t |. The efficient data acquisition allowed to collect about 10 $$^{9}$$ 9 elastic events to precisely measure the differential cross-section including the diffractive minimum (dip), the subsequent maximum (bump) and the large-| t | tail. The average nuclear slope has been found to be $$B=(20.40 \pm 0.002^{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.01^{\mathrm{syst}})~$$ B = ( 20.40 ± 0 . 002 stat ± 0 . 01 syst ) GeV $$^{-2}$$ - 2 in the | t |-range 0.04–0.2 GeV $$^{2}$$ 2 . The dip position is $$|t_{\mathrm{dip}}|=(0.47 \pm 0.004^{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.01^{\mathrm{syst}})~$$ | t dip | = ( 0.47 ± 0 . 004 stat ± 0 . 01 syst ) GeV $$^{2}$$ 2 . The differential cross section ratio at the bump vs. at the dip $$R=1.77\pm 0.01^{\mathrm{stat}}$$ R = 1.77 ± 0 . 01 stat has been measured with high precision. The series of TOTEM elastic pp measurements show that the dip is a permanent feature of the pp differential cross-section at the TeV scale.

To assess the relationship between the personality dimensions measured by the temperament and character inventory (TCI) and pharmacotherapeutic outcome in bulimia nervosa (BN).
Thirty female BN ...patients aged 19.5+/-2.9 years were enrolled to receive 12 weeks' treatment with fluoxetine or buspirone and assessed using the Polish version of the TCI. The personality dimensions of the patients with good and poor treatment responses were compared.
The subjects with a good outcome had a higher self-directedness and lower harm avoidance score; this difference was more pronounced in the fluoxetine-treated subjects. At multiple regression analysis, only self-directedness predicted a good outcome.
The results indicate that self-directedness is associated with a good pharmacotherapeutic outcome in BN. This seems to confirm the results of previous studies of the pharmacotherapy of depression and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) in BN.
Results are given for a study of the catalytic and physicochemical properties of monometallic Cu/CeO sub(2)-Al sub(2)O sub(3) and bimetallic Pd-Cu/CeO sub(2)-Al sub(2)O sub(3) catalysts for the ...synthesis of methanol from hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The catalytic activity was determined in methanol synthesis in a gradientless reactor at 200 degree C and 3.5 MPa. The physicochemical properties of these catalytic systems were studied by the BET method (Brunauer-Emmett- Teller method), temperature-programmed reduction of hydrogen (TPR-H sub(2)), temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia (TPD-NH sub(3)), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy (FTIR). Our results showed high activity for the palladium-promoted catalyst, which is attributed to a synergistic effect between palladium and copper as well as the formation of a PdCu alloy during activation of this bimetallic catalyst in a reducing atmosphere of 5% H sub(2) 95% Ar.

A search for a narrow baryonic state in the pKS0 and p‾KS0 system has been performed in ep collisions at HERA with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 358pb−1 taken in 2003–2007. The ...search was performed with deep inelastic scattering events at an ep centre-of-mass energy of 318GeV for exchanged photon virtuality, Q2, between 20 and 100GeV2. Contrary to evidence presented for such a state around 1.52 GeV in a previous ZEUS analysis using a sample of 121 pb−1 taken in 1996–2000, no resonance peak was found in the p(p‾)KS0 invariant-mass distribution in the range 1.45–1.7 GeV. Upper limits on the production cross section are set.
Dynamic data for reinforced concrete (r.c.) tall chimneys can be evaluated using their vibration measurements in low-speed wind gusts. The paper describes the method and gives examples of its ...application for some existing r.c. chimneys. Results are presented and discussed.
Two identical steel chimneys, 120 m high were erected about 5 years ago. During exploitation of the chimneys, occurrence of considerable cross vibrations of the whole supporting structure and of the ...chimney shaft were noticed. Similar observation results were obtained for each of these chimneys. Observation results constituted the basis for carrying out a computational analysis, which aimed at determination of the causes of occurrence of this phenomenon and finding the possibility of reduction of chimney vibration. Results of these detailed analysis are presented and confronted with observation results. In order to eliminate considerable chimney vibrations caused by the described aerodynamic phenomenon, specially designed turbulizers and, subsequently, mechanical vibration dampers were applied. Effects of the treatments will be presented in the paper.
