Five new copper(II) coordination compounds were prepared by template synthesis, using curcumin, 2-hydrazinobenzothiazole and metal salt (copper chloride, bromide, acetate and nitrate) in 1:2:1 and ...1:2:2 molar ratio. The complexes were characterized by elemental and thermogravimetric analysis, IR, UV–Vis and mass spectroscopic methods and cyclic voltammetric studies. On the basis of physico-chemical measurements the following formulae have been assigned to the complexes: Cu(H2L)(H2O)2Cl2·H2O, CuL·H2O, Cu(H2L)(H2O)BrBr·5H2O, Cu2L(H2O)4(NO3)2·2H2O and Cu2(H2L)(NO3)4·H2O, where H2L is the hydrazone ligand formed in the reaction conditions. Metal complexes were tested for antioxidant activity by photochemiluminescence and this activity was quantified by comparison with TROLOX®, as standard. The results show that all complexes are more potent antioxidant agents than curcumin.
The aim of the current paper is the development of phytosynthesized silver nanoparticles mediated by
L. extracts obtained through two extraction methods (temperature and microwave) and to test their ...potential application for controlling apple crops pathogens. The phytosynthesized materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. All the materials were evaluated in terms of antioxidant and in vitro antimicrobial activity (against bacteria, molds, and yeast:
ATCC 8738,
ATTC 25923,
ATCC 9027,
ATCC 14028,
ATCC 10231,
,
,
ATCC 48112,
ATCC 52323, and
ATCC 15475). Considering the results obtained in the in vitro assays, formulations based on nanoparticles phytosynthesized using
L. waste extracts (RS1N) were evaluated as potential antifungal agents for horticultural crops protection, against
and
through in vivo assays. For the DPPH assay, the inhibition (%) varied between 37.06% (for RS1N at 0.8 mg/mL concentration) and 83.72% (for RS1N at 7.2 mg/mL concentration) compared to 19.97% (for RS2N at 0.8 mg/mL) and only 28.91% (for RS2N at 7.2 mg/mL). Similar results were obtained for RS3N (85.42% inhibition at 7.2 mg/mL) compared with RS4N (21.76% inhibition at 7.2 mg/mL). Regarding the ABTS assay, the highest scavenger activity values were recorded for samples RS1N (91.43% at 1.6 mg/mL) and RS3N (96.62% at 1.6 mg/mL).
Adding compost to the soil is an ecological and economical approach to providing the nutrients needed to support crops, improve soil characteristics, and increase the orchard’s durability. Over three ...years, at the Research Institute for Fruit Growing Pitesti, Romania, data regarding the influence of fertilization with municipal sludge and vegetal origin compost (MSVOC, 20 and 40 t ha−1 doses) and vegetal origin compost (VOC, 30 and 40 t ha−1 doses) on berry quality at ‘Jonker Van Tets’ red currant cv. Were recorded. Berry dry matter, soluble solids, sugar, titratable acidity, vitamin C, phenolic, and anthocyanin content are discussed. The correlations between berry quality indicators with climatic factors (temperatures and sunshine hours) and soil chemical characteristics are discussed. Strong correlations have been identified between anthocyanins, vitamin C, and phenolics with average temperature, maximum temperature, and sunshine hours in April. Except for Fe and Mn, berry phenolics were negatively correlated with all other soil quality indicators. In the third after the application, the results indicated that VOC 40 t ha−1 had a beneficial effect, increasing berry weight, and TTA, while VOC 30 t ha−1 significantly increased DW, TTA, and vitamin C content. Therefore, vegetal origin compost can be used as fertilizer in the sustainable growth of red currants.
The aim of this paper was to study the influence of low vigor rootstocks on the 'Regina' cherry cultivar. The study was conducted at Research Institute for Fruit Growing Pitesti, Arges county, ...Romania between 2019 and 2021. A bifactorial experiment was set up, with A factor-the rootstock ('Gisela 3', 'Gisela 5', 'Gisela 12' and 'Weigi 2') and B factor-the study year (2019, 2020 and 2021). Fruiting and vegetative growth data (fruit production, the trunck cross-section area-TCSA, the annual increase of TCSA, the productivity index and the ratio between the fruit production and the annual increase of TCSA), as well as fruit quality data (fruit mass, firmness, pH, total soluble content, chromatic coordinates of epicarp color and chlorophyll fluorescence) were collected. 'Gisela 5' rootstock recorded the highest value of TCSA annual increase (11.46 kg/cm2) and had also the highest cromatic coordinates values: colour brightness (25.68), red pigment (15.61) and yellow content (4.12).The highest vigor of the cultivar 'Regina' was observed in 'Weigi 2' rootstock variant (with an TCSA value of 44.71 cm2), given that 'Weigi 2' TCSA annual increase was similar to 'Gisela 5'. 'Gisela 3' rootstock stood out for its fruit highest pH (3.97), fruit yield (13.51 t/ha), lowest vigor (TCSA=24.19 cm2), smallest annual TCSA increase (6.11 cm2), highest productivity index 0.219 kg/cm2) and highest fruit production to annual TCSA increase ratio (1.79 kg/cm2). Taking into account climatic accidents that marked the spring of 2021, on the average of the study years, the cultivar 'Regina' grafted on the rootstock 'Gisela 12' was distinguished by fruit weight (10.02 g), firmness (66.53 units HPE Bareiss) and TSS (16.03°Brix) on the background of the lowest fruit yield. A negative very signifficant correlation between fruit yield and fruit quality traits (weight, firmness and total soluble solids) was found.
Six new coordination compounds of Ni(II), Pd(II) and Cr(III) with chlorhexidine, 1,1′-hexamethylenebis5-(4-chlorophenyl)biguanide, were prepared, characterized and examined for their potential as ...antimicrobial agents, as well as for their antioxidant activity. The metal complexes correspond to the formulas: Ni(CHX)Cl2·2H2O, Ni(CHX)Br2·2H2O, Ni(CHX)(CH3COO)2·C2H5OH, Pd(CHX)PdCl4·2H2O, Pd(CHX)(CH3COO)2 and Cr(CHX)Cl2(CH3COO), where CHX = chlorhexidine. Investigations on the in vitro antimicrobial activity of the complexes indicated that all have high activity against the tested bacteria, but are less active against fungi. Among the six complexes, those of Pd(II) showed the highest antibacterial activity, Pd(CHX)PdCl4·2H2O being more active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria than chlorhexidine diacetate. The antioxidant activity of the metal complexes was investigated by photochemiluminescence and the results showed that the palladium(II) complexes have high antioxidant activities.
The present paper studied the influence of organic biostimulators and fertilizers, administrated in three applications between 70-75 BBCH, on growth and fruiting processes of three apple cultivars ...grown in five and six years high-density orchards at the Research Institute for Fruit Growing, Maracineni, Arges (southern part of Romania). During 2020-2021, the increase of the trunk cross-sectional area registered an average of 5.25 cm2 (0.02-21.19 cm2), and the fruit yield averaged 55.64 t/ha (0-166.98 t/ha). The mean values recorded for the fruit weight and pulp firmness, were 173.22 g (74.13-558.76) and 76.50 units Bareiss HPE-II-FFF (53.60-89.10), while the pH of the fruit juice and total soluble solids fluctuated around 3.55 (3.09-4.68) and 13.3 ⁰Brix (9.45-18.20). Foliar treatment with Cifamin BK (1.5 l/plant) significantly increased fruit yield by 49.5% compared to the untreated variant. Fruit weight increased in all three fertilization treatments on ´Decosta Jonagold de Coster´ and ´Red Braeburn´. Organic biostimulators and fertilizers improved pulp firmness on ´Golden Reinders Delicious´, juice pH on ´Decosta Jonagold de Coster´ and total soluble content on ´Red Braeburn´. The results of the study showed that, on the mineral nutrition background, Cifamin BK and Biohumus treatments in apple orchards improved fruit yield and quality.
