There is a bi-directional relationship between depression and chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension. This comorbidity is associated with higher mortality risk and diminishes the ...efficacy of interventions. The specific mechanisms of this mutual influence are still not fully understood, and most intervention protocols address these conditions separately. This study aims to improve our understanding of this relationship. We interviewed 18 patients and 24 health care professionals, focusing on understanding the different ways in which depression and chronic illness could influence each other. Our results show a common cyclical pattern and specific situations where the reported bi-directional relationship does not occur. We discuss the importance of opening a space for the patient’s grief process after the chronic illness diagnosis, managing the demands and stress of the patient’s treatment, and how to adjust the treatment to the different needs and possibilities of each person.
Currently there are problems in improving the competitiveness of the coffee industry in Amazonas, in this context the present research seeks to analyze the future behavior of the coffee industry ...through a structural analysis with MICMAC. For this purpose, 14 coffee guilds of Amazonas were interviewed, followed by an external and internal evaluation and a structural analysis with MICMAC. Subsequently, future events were analyzed and validated by experts. MICMAC identified in the short term the importance of local and regional governments supporting the coffee associations in order to achieve their objectives, such as increasing organic coffee production and expanding the coffee frontier; in the medium term, a coffee research center should be created; and in the long term, studies on the different microclimates should be carried out in order to achieve a high price and international demand. The motricity and dependency study contributed to the generation of eight probable events, of which five events are likely to occur by 2030 and a desirable scenario is the ideal.

Computational chemistry is an indispensable tool for understanding molecules and predicting chemical properties. However, traditional computational methods face significant challenges due to the ...difficulty of solving the Schrödinger equations and the increasing computational cost with the size of the molecular system. In response, there has been a surge of interest in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques to in silico experiments. Integrating AI and ML into computational chemistry increases the scalability and speed of the exploration of chemical space. However, challenges remain, particularly regarding the reproducibility and transferability of ML models. This review highlights the evolution of ML in learning from, complementing, or replacing traditional computational chemistry for energy and property predictions. Starting from models trained entirely on numerical data, a journey set forth toward the ideal model incorporating or learning the physical laws of quantum mechanics. This paper also reviews existing computational methods and ML models and their intertwining, outlines a roadmap for future research, and identifies areas for improvement and innovation. Ultimately, the goal is to develop AI architectures capable of predicting accurate and transferable solutions to the Schrödinger equation, thereby revolutionizing in silico experiments within chemistry and materials science.
SARS-CoV-2 is a novel β-coronavirus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic disease, which spread rapidly, infecting more than 134 million people, and killing almost 2.9 million thus far. Based on the ...urgent need for therapeutic and prophylactic strategies, the identification and characterization of antibodies has been accelerated, since they have been fundamental in treating other viral diseases. Here, we summarized in an integrative manner the present understanding of the immune response and physiopathology caused by SARS-CoV-2, including the activation of the humoral immune response in SARS-CoV-2 infection and therefore, the synthesis of antibodies. Furthermore, we also discussed about the antibodies that can be generated in COVID-19 convalescent sera and their associated clinical studies, including a detailed characterization of a variety of human antibodies and identification of antibodies from other sources, which have powerful neutralizing capacities. Accordingly, the development of effective treatments to mitigate COVID-19 is expected. Finally, we reviewed the challenges faced in producing potential therapeutic antibodies and nanobodies by cell factories at an industrial level while ensuring their quality, efficacy, and safety.
We characterize trends in maximum seasonal daily precipitation (seasonal Rx1day), minimum (Tn), and maximum (Tx) daily temperatures during days with precipitation over continental Chile for the ...period 1979–2017, using surface stations and the AgERA5 gridded product derived from the ERA5 reanalysis dataset. We also examine seasonal trends of Sea Surface Temperature (SST), Precipitable Water (PW), Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE), Eddy Kinetic Energy (EKE), Atmospheric Rivers (ARs) frequency, and upper air observations to seek possible mechanisms that explain precipitation trends. Our results show an increase in seasonal Rx1day during fall in the south part of Northern Chile (15–30°S) and during fall and winter in Austral Chile (45–57°S), and mostly negative trends in Central Chile (30–36°S), where a few locations with positive trends along the coast during summer. Temperature trends presented cooling patterns north of 33°S in almost all the seasons (< -2 °C/dec), while warming trends prevail south of 38°S (> 1 °C/dec). The highest values in Tn trends are obtained on the western slopes of the Andes around 30°S. We also explore temperature scaling in surface stations, finding strong positive super Clausius Clapeyron with Tn, especially between fall and spring in the 33–40°S region. Sounding observations in five stations across Chile suggest warming trends at 23.5°, 33°S, and 53°S, with a stabilization effect by enhanced warming in the upper troposphere, while presenting cooling trends in Puerto Montt (41.5°S). Seasonal trends in PW reveal moistening along southern Peru and northern Chile during spring and summer. Positive trends in CAPE are observed over 35–40°S (austral summer and fall) and the north Altiplano (autumn). SST analyses reveal strong cooling around 30°S in winter, which may explain the negative trends in seasonal Rx1day in central Chile. A warming spot on the northern Peruvian coast during fall may be responsible for humidification in front of Northern Chile, particularly during summer and fall. Positive EKE trends are detected south of 40°S, being stronger and reaching almost all of the coast during spring. ARs frequency unveils negative trends up to -5 days/dec during summer and positive trends of 1 day/dec in 40°- 50°S coastal regions during spring. More generally, the results presented here shed light on the main large-scale processes driving recent trends in precipitation extremes across continental Chile.
Lithology plays a fundamental role in rock weathering and erosion, and in landscape evolution. When weathering‐ and erosion‐prone lithologies are protected from erosion by more resilient rock types ...(e.g., quartzites and banded iron formations) unusual weathering products result. At the Southern Espinhaço Range, Minas Gerais, Brazil, bauxitic weathering profiles are found in a unique geomorphological–lithological–climatic setting. Resistant quartzites acted as a barrier against erosion of interbedded hematite‐phyllite lenses, channelling solution flows and facilitating the formation of deep weathering profiles. The long‐term exposure of the hematite‐phyllites under alternating wet and dry tropical climates favoured widespread bauxitization. Here we investigate the geochemical, mineralogical, geochronological and micromorphological signatures of scaffolded bauxites in order to reconstruct their evolutionary history. Our data suggest that recurrent aluminium and iron mobilization within the profiles were mainly driven by mineral dissolution‐reprecipitation mediated by bioturbation and the influx of vegetation‐derived organic species. (U–Th)/He geochronology of Al‐goethite reveals that bauxitization started at least since the Lower Miocene, with important intensification of weathering in the Upper Miocene and Lower Pleistocene. The adjacent resilient quartzites acted as scaffolds for bauxitization and supported the preservation of more erodible weathering profiles developed over phyllites. Surface waters that could not infiltrate into the impermeable adjacent quartzites preferentially infiltrated into the more weathereable phyllites, enhancing their porosity and permeability, further enhancing weathering. The evolutionary history of Southern Espinhaço Range bauxites suggests a new model of bauxitization in ancient land surfaces evolution underlain by quartzites, where erosion‐prone lithologies are scaffolded by resilient quartzites and survive long‐term weathering with minimum erosion, producing bauxites.
Bauxites developed in quartzite landscapes have not been previously reported. The study in Southern Espinhaço Range (Brazil) reveals that the lithological assemblage is the key factor in geomorphological and geochemical control, resulting in the intensification of pedogenic processes. The predominance of strength lithology (quartzites) protected the less resistant lithologies (e.g., phyllite) from erosion, allowing long‐term intense weathering, forming unusual bauxite profiles. The scaffolded bauxitization is a new model that can be reproduced in other parts of the world.
An erratum is presented to correct the measurement equation used for the calculation of the BSSRDF in our manuscript Opt. Express29 (21), 34175 (2021)10.1364/OE.439108. This correction affects ...slightly the results showed in Figs. 7 and 8 of the primary manuscript, so they are replaced by Fig. S1 and Fig. S2, respectively, of the current erratum. The discussion on the results of Fig. 7 of the primary manuscript is completely valid also for the new results, but a slightly different discussion is given on the new results showed in Fig. S2. Nevertheless, the conclusions of the original manuscript are not affected at all.
Aim
To evaluate the impact of a psychoeducational, mobile health intervention based on cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness‐based approaches on the mental health of healthcare workers at the ...frontline against COVID‐19 in Spain.
Design
We will carry out a two‐week, individually randomized, parallel group, controlled trial. Participants will be individually randomized to receive the PsyCovidApp intervention or control App intervention.
Methods
The PsyCovidApp intervention will include five modules: emotional skills, lifestyle behaviour, work stress and burnout, social support, and practical tools. Healthcare workers having attended patients with COVID‐19 will be randomized to receive the PsyCovidApp intervention (intervention group) or a control App intervention (control group). A total of 440 healthcare workers will be necessary to assure statistical power. Measures will be collected telephonically by a team of psychologists at baseline and immediately after the 2 weeks intervention period. Measures will include stress, depression and anxiety (DASS‐21 questionnaire—primary endpoint), insomnia (ISI), burnout (MBI‐HSS), post‐traumatic stress disorder (DTS), and self‐efficacy (GSE). The study was funded in May 2020, and was ethically approved in June 2020. Trial participants, outcome assessors and data analysts will be blinded to group allocation.
Discussion
Despite the increasing use of mobile health interventions to deliver mental health care, this area of research is still on its infancy. This study will help increase the scientific evidence about the effectiveness of this type of intervention on this specific population and context.
Impact
Despite the lack of solid evidence about their effectiveness, mobile‐based health interventions are already being widely implemented because of their low cost and high scalability. The findings from this study will help health services and organizations to make informed decisions in relation to the development and implementation of this type of interventions, allowing them pondering not only their attractive implementability features, but also empirical data about its benefits.

To determine the clinical consequences of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) among patients with diabetes mellitus (DM).
We conducted a prospective study of patients with TB in Southern Mexico. From 1995 to ...2010, patients with acid-fast bacilli or Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum samples underwent epidemiological, clinical and microbiological evaluation. Annual follow-ups were performed to ascertain treatment outcome, recurrence, relapse and reinfection.
The prevalence of DM among 1262 patients with pulmonary TB was 29.63% (n=374). Patients with DM and pulmonary TB had more severe clinical manifestations (cavities of any size on the chest x-ray, adjusted OR (aOR) 1.80, 95% CI 1.35 to 2.41), delayed sputum conversion (aOR 1.51, 95% CI 1.09 to 2.10), a higher probability of treatment failure (aOR 2.93, 95% CI 1.18 to 7.23), recurrence (adjusted HR (aHR) 1.76, 95% CI 1.11 to 2.79) and relapse (aHR 1.83, 95% CI 1.04 to 3.23). Most of the second episodes among patients with DM were caused by bacteria with the same genotype but, in 5/26 instances (19.23%), reinfection with a different strain occurred.
Given the growing epidemic of DM worldwide, it is necessary to add DM prevention and control strategies to TB control programmes and vice versa and to evaluate their effectiveness. The concurrence of both diseases potentially carries a risk of global spreading, with serious implications for TB control and the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
