Humans show heterogeneous susceptibility to cancer development, suggesting the involvement of various genetic backgrounds in control of the production of endogenous carcinogens, the metabolism of ...carcinogens, the repair of DNA damage, cell proliferation and defence mechanisms including immune reactions. Gastric cancer is the major cancer in Japan. However, little is known about the genes linked with its development. In 1967, we found that N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) induced gastric cancers in Wistar rats. Subsequently the Buffalo strain of rats was reported to be resistant to MNNG stomach carcinogenesis, while ACI rats were very sensitive. In a carcinogenesis study using F1 and F2 rats, we suggested that this trait of MNNG stomach carcinogenesis-resistance was regulated by a single autosomal dominant allele. The O6-methylguanine adduct levels in gastric mucosa induced by MNNG were the same in Buffalo and ACI rats, but cell proliferation induced by MNNG was much higher in ACI than Buffalo animals. Chromosome mapping of the gene responsible for susceptibility to MNNG-induced carcinogenesis is now in progress and its identification will hopefully give us clues to the involvement of genetic traits in susceptibility to gastric cancer in humans. In addition, the genetic background of susceptibility to breast cancer is also being studied. In Japan, about 5% of all cases of breast cancer are familial. We have studied BRCA1, the breast cancer susceptibility gene, as a determinant of susceptibility to breast cancer by linkage analyses in 11 families, but our results indicate that BRCA1 may not be important for development of familial breast cancer in Japanese.
Relay sharing has been recently investigated to increase the performance of coexisting wireless multi-hop networks. In this paper, we analyze a scenario where two wireless ad hoc networks are willing ...to share some of their nodes, acting as relays, in order to gain benefits in terms of lower packet delivery delay and reduced loss probability. Bayesian network analysis is exploited to compute the probabilistic relationships between local parameters and overall performance, whereas the selection of the nodes to share is made by means of a game theoretic approach. Our results are then validated through the use of a system level simulator, which shows that an accurate selection of the shared nodes can significantly increase the performance gain with respect to a random selection scheme.
The automotive value chain is highly relevant within the Argentine economic structure: it accounts for a significant share of industrial employment and production, generates important linkages at the ...national and regional level, and concentrates most of the country’s medium- and high-technology exports. Its history shows that the automotive value chain has suffered the macroeconomic and regulatory swings associated with the changes in the economic policy orientation in general, as well as the regulatory modifications of its sectors in particular. In this context, the objective of this paper is to analyze the history and current situation of the automotive value chain in Argentina and Mercosur, focusing on the interaction between production and the international trade of the chain, demonstrating how they are determined by the regulations and sectoral institutional framework.

Encouraged by regulations that seek to mitigate the emission of greenhouse gases, the automotive industry has started an incipient transition to electromobility; so far, this transition has been ...limited to some of the Western developed countries, as well as Japan, South Korea and China. This transition generates important changes in the technological capabilities and natural resources needed for the development and production of vehicles, and opens a scenario of potential repositioning for firms and countries. In this context, the production of electric vehicles and their regulations are lagging behind in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina – the leading automotive producers in Latin America. However, they have some advantages that could be exploited to reposition themselves in automotive value chains. KCI Citation Count: 0
