Cardiotoxicity due to anthracyclines (CDA) affects cancer patients, but we cannot predict who may suffer from this complication. We propose that levels of intermediate molecular phenotypes (IMPs) in the myocardium associated with histopathological damage could explain CDA susceptibility, so variants of genes encoding these IMPs could identify patients susceptible to this complication. Thus, a genetically heterogeneous cohort of mice (
= 165) generated by backcrossing were treated with doxorubicin and docetaxel. We quantified heart fibrosis using an Ariol slide scanner and intramyocardial levels of IMPs using multiplex bead arrays and QPCR. We identified quantitative trait loci linked to IMPs (ipQTLs) and cdaQTLs via linkage analysis. In three cancer patient cohorts, CDA was quantified using echocardiography or Cardiac Magnetic Resonance. CDA behaves as a complex trait in the mouse cohort. IMP levels in the myocardium were associated with CDA. ipQTLs integrated into genetic models with cdaQTLs account for more CDA phenotypic variation than that explained by cda-QTLs alone. Allelic forms of genes encoding IMPs associated with CDA in mice, including AKT1, MAPK14, MAPK8, STAT3, CAS3, and TP53, are genetic determinants of CDA in patients. Two genetic risk scores for pediatric patients (
= 71) and women with breast cancer (
= 420) were generated using machine-learning Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression. Thus, IMPs associated with heart damage identify genetic markers of CDA risk, thereby allowing more personalized patient management.

Objectives
To assess screening quality metrics and to describe mortality rates eight years after redesign of breast cancer screening and diagnosis pathways, and the introduction of digital breast ...tomosynthesis.
Setting
Breast Unit of the Toledo Health Area in the region of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain).
Methods
We recorded screening metrics and mortality data following the introduction of digital breast tomosynthesis in 2011 for screening and diagnosis pathways. We then compared the mortality between Toledo Health Area and the rest of Castilla-La Mancha, where digital breast tomosynthesis is not available.
Results
All screening quality metrics improved following the introduction of digital breast tomosynthesis. The cancer detection rate significantly increased from 2.3 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.9–3.6) to 4.5 per 1000 women (95% CI: 3.2–5.2) on average between the periods 2005–2009 and 2015–2018, while the recall rate significantly decreased from 7.0% (95% CI: 6.8%–8.2%) to 2.6% (95% CI: 2.0%–3.6%). Comparing breast cancer mortality rates for 2014–2018 in the Toledo Health Area with the rest of Castilla-La Mancha, which had similar cancer treatment access and management protocols but without digital breast tomosynthesis, the crude mortality rate was 17.79 (95% CI: 15.38 -20.19) vs. 24.76 per 100,000 (95% CI: 26.12–23.39), respectively. The cumulative risk of death was also significantly lower for the Toledo Health Area than for Castilla-La Mancha.
Conclusion
The introduction of digital breast tomosynthesis improved screening quality indicators. Breast cancer mortality simultaneously decreased with respect to the rest of Castilla-La Mancha. Further research is needed to assess the long-term results, and the role that the redesign may have played in reducing mortality.

Introducción: La educación en el trabajo materializa la integración de las tareas de asistencia y docencia, de modo que la carrera de Medicina demanda el aprovechamiento de los escenarios formativos ...disponibles en el territorio. El hogar de ancianos se utilizó en estancia de dos semanas para el quinto semestre de tercer año, donde se vincularon alumnos ayudantes de años superiores. Objetivo: Evaluar la efectividad del proceso formativo desarrollado en el hogar de ancianos para el aprendizaje de las habilidades clínicas y la práctica docente de alumnos ayudantes. Método: Se realizó investigación de evaluación donde se utilizaron métodos teóricos y empíricos. Se aplicó cuestionario a 56 estudiantes de tercer año, y dinámica de grupo a 12 alumnos ayudantes. Resultados: Más del 70% de los estudiantes realizó todos los días la práctica de habilidades para el interrogatorio, examen físico general y regional. Los sistemas predominantes todos los días fueron cardiovascular (87,50%) y respiratorio (85,71%), y con menor práctica, el nervioso (32,14%). El registro de datos diario reflejó el desarrollo de habilidades para el interrogatorio (87,50%) y el examen físico por sistemas (85,71%). Los alumnos ayudantes realizaron práctica docente y recibieron preparación sistemática. El personal de salud de la institución se mostró satisfecho con la actividad. Conclusión: El proceso formativo desarrollado resultó efectivo para el aprendizaje y sistematización de las habilidades clínicas en el quinto semestre de la carrera y permitió la realización de la práctica docente de alumnos ayudantes.
