The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays to final states with multiple charged particles in 2003–2004. A new upper limit on the rate of the lepton number ...violating decay K±→π∓μ±μ± is reported: B(K±→π∓μ±μ±)<8.6×10−11 at 90% CL. Searches for two-body resonances X in K±→πμμ decays (such as heavy neutral leptons N4 and inflatons χ) are also presented. In the absence of signals, upper limits are set on the products of branching fractions B(K±→μ±N4)B(N4→πμ) and B(K±→π±X)B(X→μ+μ−) for ranges of assumed resonance masses and lifetimes. The limits are in the (10−11,10−9) range for resonance lifetimes below 100 ps.

Kaon physics is at a turning point – while the rare-kaon experiments NA62 and KOTO are in full swing, the end of their lifetime is approaching and the future experimental landscape needs to be ...defined. With HIKE, KOTO-II and LHCb-Phase-II on the table and under scrutiny, it is a very good moment in time to take stock and contemplate about the opportunities these experiments and theoretical developments provide for particle physics in the coming decade and beyond. This paper provides a compact summary of talks and discussions from the Kaons@CERN 2023 workshop, held in September 2023 at CERN.

The Gigatracker is the NA62 beam tracker. It is made of three 63.1mm×29.3mm stations of 300μm×300μm hybrid silicon pixel detectors installed in vacuum (∼10−6mbar). The beam particles, flowing at ...750MHz, are traced in 4-dimensions by mean of time-stamping pixels with a design resolution of 200ps. This performance has to be maintained despite the beam irradiation amounting to a yearly fluence of 2×10141MeVneq∕cm2. The detector material minimization is paramount, as the detector faces the full beam. The station material budget is reduced to 0.5%X0 by using (HEP world first) micro-channels cooling. We will describe the detector design and performances during the NA62 runs.
Abstract
The light yield, the time resolution and the efficiency of
different types of scintillating tiles with direct Silicon
Photomultiplier readout and instrumented with a customised front-end
...electronics have been measured at the Beam Test Facility of
Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati and several test stands. The
results obtained on minimum ionising particles with different
detector configurations are presented. A time resolution of the
order of 300 ps, a light yield of more than 230 photo-electrons, and
an efficiency better than 99.8% are obtained with
∼ 225 cm
2
large area tiles. This technology is suitable
for a wide range of applications in high-energy physics, in
particular for large area muon and timing detectors.

. The Calorimetric Level 0 Trigger identifies clusters in the ...electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters. Along with the trigger data sent to the L0 Trigger Processor, readout data is collected to be sent to the L1 software trigger. In this work we present the novel implementation of the readout data collection and forwarding system in the multiple layers of the calorimetric trigger structure. We will also present the commissioning of the system and the performance evaluation on current data taking.

The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is a fixed target experiment designed to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare Kaon decay K+→π+νν̄. The experiment uses an high-momentum K+ decay in-flight ...technique to increase the rejection power of the main background: K+→π+π0.
The Gigatracker is a hybrid silicon pixel detector, exposed to a 750 MHz high-energy charged hadron beam, built to give an accurate measurement of K+ momentum and direction together with an high precision measurement of the beam particle arrival time (115 ps RMS resolution per plane). It comprises three stations placed right before the K+ decay region and inserted around two achromats. The detector works in vacuum (∼10−6mbar) at about −10°C.
Each station is made of a 200μm thick silicon sensor readout by 10 TDCPix, custom 100μm thick ASICs, and cooled by an innovative double circuit silicon micro-channel cooling system. All these parts are designed to minimize the total material budget which, in the final detector, amounts to less than 1.5% X0 for the three stations.
In order to sustain the high rate of incoming particles, each TDCPix, operating in a self triggered mode, is equipped with four 3.2 Gb/s serializers sending data to the detector DAQ system based on a read-out card per TDCPix chip sending trigger-matched hits to 6 PC servers. I will describe the whole detector and present some of the results from data collected during the 2016 NA62 runs.

The GigaTracker is a hybrid silicon pixel detector built for the NA62 experiment aiming at measuring the branching fraction of the ultra-rare kaon decay K+→π+νν¯ at the CERN SPS. The detector has to ...track particles in a beam with a flux reaching 1.3MHz/mm2 and provide single-hit timing with 200ps RMS resolution for a total material budget of less than 0.5% X0 per station. The tracker comprises three 60.8mm×27mm stations installed in vacuum (∼10−6mbar) and cooled with liquid C6F14 circulating through micro-channels etched inside a few hundred micron thick silicon plates. Each station is composed of a 200μm thick silicon sensor read out by 2×5 custom 100μm thick ASICs, called TDCPix. Each chip contains 40×45 asynchronous pixels, 300μm×300μm each and is instrumented with 100ps bin time-to-digital converters. In order to cope with the high rate, the TDCPix is equipped with four 3.2Gb/s serialisers sending out the data. We will describe the detector and the results from the 2014 and 2015 NA62 runs.
The GigaTracKer (GTK) is the beam spectrometer of the CERN NA62 experiment. The detector features challenging design specifications, in particular a peak particle flux reaching up to 2.0 MHz/mm2, a ...single hit time resolution smaller than 200 ps and, a material budget of 0.5% X0 per tracking plane. To fulfil these specifications, novel technologies were especially employed in the domain of silicon hybrid time-stamping pixel technology and micro-channel cooling. This article describes the detector design and reports on the achieved performance.
The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS (Super Proton Synchrotron) accelerator aims at studying Kaon decays with high precision. The high resolution Liquid Krypton (LKr) calorimeter, built for the NA48 ...experiment, is a crucial part of the photon-veto system; to cope with the demanding NA62 requirements, its back-end electronics had to be completely renewed. The new readout system is based on the Calorimeter REAdout Module (CREAM) , a 6U VME board whose design and production was sub-contracted to CAEN , with CERN NA62 group continuously supervising the development and production phase. The first version of the board was delivered by the manufacturer in March 2013 and, as of June 2014, the full board production is ongoing. In addition to describing the CREAM board, all aspects of the new LKr readout system, including its integration within the NA62 TDAQ scheme, will be treated.
