Changes of calcification scores of the abdominal aorta (CSAA) after total parathyroidectomy plus autotransplantation (TPX + AT) for symptomatic secondary hyperparathyroidism (SSHP) have never been ...reported.
Forty-nine patients who successfully underwent TPX + AT for SSHP were enrolled; 13 patients who had regular hemodialysis were enrolled as controls.
Preoperatively, patients' age, gender, and duration of dialysis were recorded. Serum Ca, P, alkaline phosphatase (Alk-ptase), intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH), vitamin D, FGF23, and Klotho levels, and CSAA were measured. One year postoperatively, these data were measured again. In the control group, these data were recorded and measured before and one year later.
Serum iPTH, Alk-ptase and FGF23 levels and CSAA of the study group were significantly higher than those of the control group.
One year postoperatively, serum Ca, P, Alk-ptase, iPTH, and FGF23 levels and CSAA were significantly lower than those before surgery. Except for FGF23 levels, other items of the control group did not change significantly one year later, whereas the study group decreased CSAA more than the control group.
One year postoperatively, CSAA decreased.
•Total parathyroidectomy plus autotransplantation for symptomatic secondary hyperparathyroidism can decrease serum FGF23 levels and calcification scores of the abdominal aorta, but increase serum Klotho levels one year postoperatively.
The formation of μ-OO peroxide (Co–OO–Co) moieties on spinel Co3O4 electrocatalyst prior to the rise of the electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction (OER) current was identified by in situ ...spectroscopic methods. Through a combination of independent in situ X-ray absorption, grazing-angle X-ray diffraction, and Raman analysis, we observed a clear coincidence between the formation of μ-OO peroxide moieties and the rise of the anodic peak during OER. This finding implies that a chemical reaction step could be generally ignored before the onset of OER current. More importantly, the tetrahedral Co2+ ions in the spinel Co3O4 could be the vital species to initiate the formation of the μ-OO peroxide moieties.
Aims
Combined hepatocellular–cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC‐CCA) is an uncommon hepatic malignancy with a poor outcome. The 2019 World Health Organization (WHO) classification modified the definition and ...discarded the subtypes with stem cell features. However, the differences among cHCC‐CCA, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), HCC with stem cell/progenitor features (HCCscf) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) remain undetermined. The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics of cHCC‐CCA in comparison with those of other primary liver cancers by utilising the updated WHO classification.
Methods and results
We retrospectively analysed 64 cHCC‐CCA patients and 55 HCCscf patients from December 2007 to May 2018. Propensity score matching was conducted to compare these with HCC and iCCA patients. Clinicopathological characteristics, event‐free survival and overall survival were evaluated with multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression. During a median follow‐up of 55.9 months, cHCC‐CCA patients had significantly poorer survival than HCCscf patients, and survival intermediate between that of HCC patients and that of iCCA patients. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and high levels of tumour‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) were associated with favourable survival in cHCC‐CCA patients. In the multivariate analysis, poor hepatic reserve, absence of HBV infection, stage IV disease and low levels of TILs were significant negative prognostic factors in cHCC‐CCA patients. After being pooled with other primary liver cancers, cHCC‐CCA and iCCA resulted in the worse survival.
Conclusions
cHCC‐CCA patients have survival intermediate between that of HCC patients and iCCA patients, and HBV infection and high levels of TILs predict favourable survival. Our study provides clinical correlations for the new 2019 WHO classification.
Rare-earth monopnictides are a family of materials simultaneously displaying complex magnetism, strong electronic correlation, and topological band structure. The recently discovered emergent ...arc-like surface states in these materials have been attributed to the multi-wave-vector antiferromagnetic order, yet the direct experimental evidence has been elusive. Here we report observation of non-collinear antiferromagnetic order with multiple modulations using spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy. Moreover, we discover a hidden spin-rotation transition of single-to-multiple modulations 2 K below the Néel temperature. The hidden transition coincides with the onset of the surface states splitting observed by our angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements. Single modulation gives rise to a band inversion with induced topological surface states in a local momentum region while the full Brillouin zone carries trivial topological indices, and multiple modulation further splits the surface bands via non-collinear spin tilting, as revealed by our calculations. The direct evidence of the non-collinear spin order in NdSb not only clarifies the mechanism of the emergent topological surface states, but also opens up a new paradigm of control and manipulation of band topology with magnetism.
AbstractAn increasing number of construction megaprojects have been invested in and built worldwide over the past decades, yet effective indicators for assessing construction megaproject success ...(CMS) are not validated, which leads to an ineffective assessment of megaprojects. Therefore, the current study attempts to identify a series of key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the success of construction megaprojects. By conducting a questionnaire survey, research data were collected, which contained 129 valid replies from three groups of respondents from the Chinese construction industries: owners, contractors, and designers. IBM SPSS version 25 software was employed to analyze five underlying dimensions for CMS: (1) project efficiency, (2) key stakeholders’ satisfaction, (3) organizational strategic goals, (4) innovation and development of the construction industry, and (5) comprehensive impact on society. Afterward, the fuzzy set theory was utilized to evaluate the KPIs’ effectiveness. The results of this research can contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of megaproject management and serve as a theoretical foundation for the enhanced performance assessment of construction megaprojects and related management success.
Evidence indicates that the positive effects of 2-year early intervention services for psychosis are not maintained after service withdrawal. Optimal duration of early intervention in sustaining ...initial improved outcomes remains to be determined.
To examine the sustainability of the positive effects of an extended, 3-year, early intervention programme for patients with first-episode psychosis (FEP) after transition to standard care.
A total of 160 patients, who had received a 2-year early intervention programme for FEP, were enrolled to a 12-month randomised-controlled trial (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01202357) comparing a 1-year extension of the early intervention (3-year specialised treatment) with step-down care (2-year specialised treatment). Participants were followed up and reassessed 2 and 3 years after inclusion to the trial.
There were no significant differences between the treatment groups in outcomes on functioning, symptom severity and service use during the post-trial follow-up period.
The therapeutic benefits achieved by the extended, 3-year early intervention were not sustainable after termination of the specialised service.
Data are lacking regarding predictors of quantification of neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) based on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) 50% neutralization titer (NT
) after a ...single dose of COVID-19 vaccine in hemodialysis (HD) patients.
This prospective single-center study enrolled 200 HD patients and 82 healthy subjects to estimate antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 viral spike protein 1 and receptor-binding domain after a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (ChAdOx1 or mRNA-1273), measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and applied spline-based generalized additive model regression analysis to predict NT
converted to international units.
After the first dose of ChAdOx1, multiple linear regression showed that age (
0.011) and cardiothoracic ratio (
= 0.002) were negatively associated with NT
. Older age (OR = 0.958,
0.052) and higher cardiothoracic ratio (OR < 0.001,
0.037) could predict negative humoral response (NT
< 35.13 IU/mL). NT
was lower in HD patients compared with healthy controls receiving ChAdOx1 (10.68 vs. 43.01 IU/m,
< 0.001) or mRNA-1273 (36.39 vs. 262.2 IU/mL,
< 0.001). ChAdOx1 elicited lower GMTs than mRNA-1273 in the HD cohort (10.68 vs. 36.39 IU/mL,
< 0.001) and in healthy controls (43.01 vs. 262.22 IU/mL,
< 0.001).
High cardiothoracic ratio and old age could independently predict a decline in nAb titers in an HD cohort vaccinated with a single dose of ChAdOx1.
