Interest in the health effects of foods by both industry and consumers has put a spotlight on the role of health claims on foods in Canada. The current regulatory framework governing the use of ...different health claims on foods in Canada is described and compared with international approaches. Similarities were observed in how risk-reduction claims for serious diseases are managed in the United States, European Union and proposed by Food Standards Australia New Zealand, including the need for premarket authorization and the requirement for a high level of certainty based on the totality of evidence in substantiating this type of claim. However, approaches to permitting function claims other than those for the well-established functions of known nutrients are divergent among the jurisdictions compared. Canada also differs from other jurisdictions in not establishing core nutritional criteria for foods carrying disease risk-reduction claims. A brief overview of the status in Canada of a number of disease risk-reduction claims that have been approved in the United States, based on significant scientific agreement under the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act or through authoritative statements under the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act, is also provided. Background: Several meta-analyses have tried to defi ne the role of minimally invasive approaches. However, further evidence to get a wider spread of these methods is necessary. Current studies ...describe minimally invasive surgery as a possible alternative to open surgery but deserving further clarifi cation. However, despite the increasing interest, the difficulty of planning prospective studies of adequate size accounts for the low level of evidence, which is mostly based on retrospective experiences. A multi-institutional prospective study allows the collection of an impressive amount of data to investigate various aspects of minimally invasive procedures with the opportunity of developing several subgroup analyses. A prospective data collection with high methodological quality on minimally invasive and open gastrectomies can clarify the role of diff erent procedures with the aim to develop specifi c guidelines. Methods and analysis: a multi-institutional prospective database will be established including information on surgical, clinical and oncological features of patients treated for gastric cancer with robotic, laparoscopic or open approaches and subsequent follow-up. The study has been shared by the members of the International study group on Minimally Invasive surgery for GASTRIc Cancer (IMIGASTRIC) The database is designed to be an international electronic submission system and a HIPPA protected real time data repository from high volume gastric cancer centers. Ethics: This study is conducted in compliance with ethical principles originating from the Helsinki Declaration, within the guidelines of Good Clinical Practice and relevant laws/regulations. Future intelligent system will involve various artificial agents, including mobile robots, smart home infrastructure or personal devices, which share data and collaborate with each other to serve ...users. Designing efficient interactions which can support users to express needs to such intelligent environments, supervise the collaboration of different entities and evaluate the outcomes, will be challengeable. This paper presents the design and implementation of the human-machine interface of Intelligent Cyber-Physical system (ICPS), which is a multi-entity coordination system of robots and other smart agents in a workplace (Honda Research Institute). ICPS gathers sensory data from entities and receives users' inputs, then optimizes plans to utilize the capability of different entities to serve people.

Using multi-model interaction methods, e.g. graphical interfaces, speech interaction, gestures and facial expressions, ICPS is able to receive inputs from users through different entities, keep users aware of the progress and accomplish the task efficiently
To investigate the immunogenicity and encephalitogenicity of oligodendrocyte-specific protein (OSP), recombinant soluble mouse OSP (smOSP) was produced from a synthetic gene engineered to lack the ...sequences coding for the hydrophobic transmembrane domains of the native molecule. SmOSP was immunogenic and encephalitogenic for SJL/J, C3H.SW and C57BL/6J mice, but not PL/J or BALB/c mice. SmOSP-specific T-cells from SJL/J, C3H.SW and C57BL/6J mice induced severe chronic clinical experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis upon transfer. These findings indicate that autoimmune T-cell responses to OSP should be investigated in the context of multiple sclerosis.
