Current methods of chemical vapour deposition (CVD) of graphene on copper are complicated by multiple processing steps and by high temperatures required in both preparing the copper and inducing ...subsequent film growth. Here we demonstrate a plasma-enhanced CVD chemistry that enables the entire process to take place in a single step, at reduced temperatures (<420 °C), and in a matter of minutes. Growth on copper foils is found to nucleate from arrays of well-aligned domains, and the ensuing films possess sub-nanometre smoothness, excellent crystalline quality, low strain, few defects and room-temperature electrical mobility up to (6.0±1.0) × 10(4) cm(2) V(-1) s(-1), better than that of large, single-crystalline graphene derived from thermal CVD growth. These results indicate that elevated temperatures and crystalline substrates are not necessary for synthesizing high-quality graphene.
Simultaneous enhancement of out-coupling efficiency, internal quantum efficiency, and color purity in thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters is highly desired for the practical ...application of these materials. We designed and synthesized two isomeric TADF emitters, 2DPyM-mDTC and 3DPyM-pDTC, based on di(pyridinyl)methanone (DPyM) cores as the new electron-accepting units and di(tert-butyl)carbazole (DTC) as the electron-donating units. 3DPyM-pDTC, which is structurally nearly planar with a very small ΔE ST, shows higher color purity, horizontal ratio, and quantum yield than 2DPyM-mDTC, which has a more flexible structure. An electroluminescence device based on 3DPyM-pDTC as the dopant emitter can reach an extremely high external quantum efficiency of 31.9% with a pure blue emission. This work also demonstrates a way to design materials with a high portion of horizontal molecular orientation to realize a highly efficient pure-blue device based on TADF emitters.

The inpatient data was used of the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database (NHIRD) in 2010. We identified patients suffered their first occurrence of septicemia (International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification ICD-9-CM is 038, 003.1, 036.1) and excluded less than 18 years old. Patients had AF (ICD-9-CM to 427.3×) during the same admission or after septicemia hospitalization discharged were defined as new-onset AF. The outcome was IS happened after septicemia discharge (ICD-9-CM as 433-437).
The factors related to IS after septicemia survival were established using multivariate logistic regression with forward stepwise selection.
There were 1286 new-onset AF and 1026 IS happened after septicemia discharge. The crude odds ratio (OR) were 3.88 (95% confidence interval C.I.: 1.69-8.89) and 1.62 (95% C.I.: 1.14-2.3) in middle-aged and elderly septicemia survivors with new-onset AF induced IS. The risk of IS after septicemia survivors was noticed adjusted OR 1.74 (95% C.I.: 1.26-2.41) for new-onset AF.
The middle-aged and elderly septicemia survivors suffered from new-onset AF had increased incidence of IS within three months. New-onset AF was a mediator factor of IS in septicemia survivors of Asian population.
The aim of this study is to present our institutional experience in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) as a treatment for end‐stage liver disease in children with biliary atresia (BA). A ...retrospective review of transplant records was performed. One hundred BA patients (52 males and 48 females) underwent LDLT. The mean follow‐up period was 85.5 months. The mean age was 2.4 years. The mean preoperative weight, height, and computed GFR were 12.2 kg, 82.5 cm, and 116.4 ml/min/1.73 m2, respectively. Twenty‐seven patients were below 1 year of age, and 49 patients were below 10 kg at the time of transplantation. Ninety‐six had had previous Kasai operation prior to transplant. The mean recipient operative time was 628 min. The mean recipient intraoperative blood loss was 176 ml. Thirty‐five did not require blood or blood component transfusion. The left lateral segment (64) was the most common type of graft used. There were 27 operative complications which included 3 reoperations for postoperative bleeding, 9 portal vein, 4 hepatic vein, 4 hepatic artery, and 7 biliary complications. There was one in‐hospital mortality and one retransplantation. The overall rejection rate was 20%. The overall mortality rate was 3%. The 6‐month, 1‐year and 5‐year actual recipient survival rates were 99%, 98% and 98%, respectively.
In 100 biliary atresia patients undergoing living donor liver transplantation at a single center, the overall mortality rate was 3% and the 5 year actual recipient survival rate was 98%.

This prospective study enrolled 260 AD patients with clinical dementia rating (CDR) of 0.5, 1 and 2 at a tertiary medical center.
All patients were tested using the mini-mental state examination (MMSE), the cognitive abilities screening instrument (CASI), the neuropsychiatric inventory (NPI) and the CDR scale. Data regarding therapeutic outcomes of anti-Alzheimer's drugs were also collected. Caregivers were tested using NPI.
The mean follow-up interval was 25.0 ± 12.2 months, and two patients died during follow-up. NPI-burden was positively correlated with NPI-sum ( r = 0.822, P < 0.001) but negatively correlated with years of education ( r = -0.140, P = 0.024), CASI score ( r = -0.259, P < 0.001) and MMSE score ( r = -0.262, P <0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that only NPI-sum was independently associated with mean NPI-burden. Both higher mean CASI and MMSE scores had better therapeutic outcome of anti-Alzheimer's drugs ( P = 0.001 and P = 0.005, respectively).
The severity of neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with AD was positively associated with caregiver's stress, and patients with better cognitive functions, under treatment with anti-Alzheimer's drugs, had better therapeutic outcomes. To reduce the impact of neuropsychiatric symptoms, it is crucial to detect dementia in its early phases and provide early intervention with anti-Alzheimer's drugs, which might help decrease the caregiver burden, thereby improving their quality of life.
Purpose The contribution of adjuvant chemotherapy after chemoradiation therapy (CRT) in nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) remains controversial. Plasma Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA is a potential biomarker ...of subclinical residual disease in NPC. In this prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled trial, we used plasma EBV DNA to identify patients with NPC at a higher risk of relapse for adjuvant chemotherapy. Patients and Methods Eligible patients with histologically confirmed NPC of Union for International Cancer Control stage IIB to IVB, adequate organ function, and no locoregional disease or distant metastasis were screened by plasma EBV DNA at 6 to 8 weeks after radiotherapy (RT). Patients with undetectable plasma EBV DNA underwent standard surveillance. Patients with detectable plasma EBV DNA were randomly assigned to either adjuvant chemotherapy with cisplatin and gemcitabine for six cycles (arm 1) or observation (arm 2). Patients were stratified for primary treatment (RT v CRT) and stage (II/III v IV). The primary end point was relapse-free survival (RFS). Results Seven hundred eighty-nine patients underwent EBV DNA screening. Plasma EBV DNA was undetectable in 573 (72.6%) and detectable in 216 (27.4%); 104 (13.2%) with detectable EBV DNA were randomly assigned to arms 1 (n = 52) and 2 (n = 52). After a median follow-up of 6.6 years, no significant difference was found in 5-year RFS rate between arms 1 and 2 (49.3% v 54.7%; P = .75; hazard ratio for relapse or death, 1.09; 95% CI, 0.63 to 1.89). The level of post-RT plasma EBV DNA correlated significantly with the hazards of locoregional failure, distant metastasis, and death. Conclusion In patients with NPC with detectable post-RT plasma EBV DNA, adjuvant chemotherapy with cisplatin and gemcitabine did not improve RFS. Post-RT plasma EBV DNA level should be incorporated as the selection factor in future clinical trials of adjuvant therapy in NPC.
Portal hyperperfusion in a small‐size liver graft is one cause of posttransplant graft dysfunction. We retrospectively analyzed the potential risk factors predicting the development of portal ...hyperperfusion in 43 adult living donor liver transplantation recipients. The following were evaluated: age, body weight, native liver disease, spleen size, graft size, graft‐to‐recipient weight ratio (GRWR), total portal flow, recipient portal venous flow per 100 g graft weight (RPVF), graft‐to‐recipient spleen size ratio (GRSSR) and portosystemic shunting. Spleen size was directly proportional to the total portal flow (p = 0.001) and RPVF (p = 0.014). Graft hyperperfusion (RPVF flow >250 mL/min/100 g graft) was seen in eight recipients. If the GRSSR was <0.6, 5 of 11 cases were found to have graft hyperperfusion (p = 0.017). The presence of portosystemic shunting was significant in decreasing excessive RPVF (p = 0.059). A decrease in portal flow in the hyperperfused grafts was achieved by intraoperative splenic artery ligation or splenectomy. Spleen size is a major factor contributing to portal flow after transplant. The GRSSR is associated with posttransplant graft hyperperfusion at a ratio of <0.6.

This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of HBV vaccination as an alternative preventive measure against de novo HBV infection in pediatric living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). Sixty recipients ...were enrolled in this study. Thirty received grafts from anti‐HBc(+) donors, and another 30 received grafts from anti‐HBc(−) donors. HBV vaccine was given pretransplant to every candidate. Posttransplant, lamivudine was routinely given to recipients receiving anti‐HBc(+) grafts for about 2 years. Forty‐seven (78%) recipients achieved high levels of anti‐HBs titer (>1000 IU/L). Two (3.3%) recipients developed de novo HBV infection where one received an anti‐HBc(−) graft and another received an anti‐HBc(+) graft. Both recipients were in the lower anti‐HBs titer group (<1000 IU/L). The incidence of de novo HBV infection was significantly higher in the lower titer group (15.4% vs. 0%, p = 0.04). The median follow‐up period was 51 months in recipients with anti‐HBc(−) grafts and 57 months in those with anti‐HBc(+) grafts. Active immunization is an effective method to prevent de novo HBV infection. It can result in high levels of anti‐HBs titer (>1000 IU/L) which may prevent de novo HBV infection in pediatric patients with efficient primary vaccination undergoing LDLT.

The Omicron variant is rapidly becoming the dominant SARS-CoV-2 virus circulating globally. It is important to define reductions in virus neutralizing activity in the serum of convalescent or ...vaccinated individuals to understand potential loss of protection against infection by Omicron. We previously established that a 50% plaque reduction neutralization antibody titer (PRNT
) ≥25.6 in our live virus assay corresponded to the threshold for 50% protection from infection against wild-type (WT) SARS-CoV-2. Here we show markedly reduced serum antibody titers against the Omicron variant (geometric mean titer (GMT) < 10) compared to WT virus 3-5 weeks after two doses of BNT162b2 (GMT = 218.8) or CoronaVac vaccine (GMT = 32.5). A BNT162b2 booster dose elicited Omicron PRNT
titers ≥25.6 in 88% of individuals (22 of 25) who previously received 2 doses of BNT162b2 and 80% of individuals (24 of 30) who previously received CoronaVac. However, few (3%) previously infected individuals (1 of 30) or those vaccinated with three doses of CoronaVac (1 of 30) met this threshold. Our findings suggest that countries primarily using CoronaVac vaccines should consider messenger RNA vaccine boosters in response to the spread of Omicron. Studies evaluating the effectiveness of different vaccines against the Omicron variant are urgently needed.
Background
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have been known to induce type I hypersensitivity reactions. However, severe delayed‐type hypersensitivity reactions (DHR) induced by PPI, such as ...Stevens‐Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), or drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), are rarely reported. We conducted a study of a large series of PPI‐related DHR, followed up their tolerability to alternative anti‐ulcer agents, and investigated the T‐cell reactivity to PPI in PPI‐related DHR patients.
Methods
We retrospectively analyzed patients with PPI‐related DHR from multiple medical centers in Taiwan during the study period January 2003 to April 2016. We analyzed the causative PPI, clinical manifestations, organ involvement, treatment, and complications. We also followed up the potential risk of cross‐hypersensitivity or tolerability to other PPI after their hypersensitivity episodes. Drug lymphocyte activation test (LAT) was conducted by measuring granulysin and interferon‐γ to confirm the causalities.
Results
There were 69 cases of PPI‐related DHR, including SJS/TEN (n=27) and DRESS (n=10). The LAT by measuring granulysin showed a sensitivity of 59.3% and specificity of 96.4%. Esomeprazole was the most commonly involved in PPI‐related DHR (51%). Thirteen patients allergic to one kind of PPI could tolerate other structurally different PPI without cross‐hypersensitivity reactions, whereas three patients developed cross‐hypersensitivity reactions to alternative structurally similar PPI. The cross‐reactivity to structurally similar PPI was also observed in LAT assay.
Conclusions
PPIs have the potential to induce life‐threatening DHR. In patients when PPI is necessary for treatment, switching to structurally different alternatives should be considered.
