A new inductive power transfer system with a narrow rail width, a small pickup size, and a large air gap for online electric vehicles is proposed in this paper. By introducing a new core structure, ...the orientation of the magnetic flux alternates along with the road; hence, an inductive power transfer system with a narrow rail width of 10 cm, a large air gap of 20 cm, and a large lateral displacement about 24 cm was implemented. The resonant circuit of the inductive power transfer system, driven by a current source, was fully characterized. The experimental results showed that the maximum output power was 35 kW and that the maximum efficiency was 74% at 27 kW. The proposed system was found to be adequate for electric vehicles, allowing them to drive freely on specially implemented roads by obtaining power from the buried power supply rail.
Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy in women. It is classified into a few major molecular subtypes according to hormone and growth factor receptor expression. Over the past few years, ...substantial advances have been made in the discovery of new drugs for treating BC. Improved understanding of the biologic heterogeneity of BC has allowed the development of more effective and individualized approach to treatment. In this review, we provide an update about the current treatment strategy and discuss the various emerging novel therapies for the major molecular subtypes of BC. A brief account of the clinical development of inhibitors of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase, cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin pathway, histone deacetylation, multi-targeting tyrosine kinases, and immune checkpoints for personalized treatment of BC is included. However, no targeted drug has been approved for the most aggressive subtype-triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Thus, we discuss the heterogeneity of TNBC and how molecular subtyping of TNBC may help drug discovery for this deadly disease. The emergence of drug resistance also poses threat to the successful development of targeted therapy in various molecular subtypes of BC. New clinical trials should incorporate advanced methods to identify changes induced by drug treatment, which may be associated with the upregulation of compensatory signaling pathways in drug resistant cancer cells.
To investigate the risk factors for acute GVHD (aGVHD), based on NIH consensus criteria (NCC), we evaluated 775 patients who underwent allogeneic transplantation. Of them, 346 patients developed ...aGVHD by NCC, in whom we also analyzed factors affecting aGVHD-specific survival. The cumulative incidence of aGVHD was 44.7%, consisting of classic aGVHD (n=320) and late-onset (n=26). Multivariate analyses revealed that younger age (P=0.015), unrelated donors (P=0.004) and acute leukemia compared with other hematologic malignancies (P=0.005) were significant risk factors for aGVHD, whereas PBSCs showed no association (P=0.720). Multivariate analyses, with only aGVHD patients, revealed that late-onset aGVHD had superior aGVHD-specific survival to classic aGVHD (P=0.044), and identified the association of visceral organ involvement (P=0.002), severity of aGVHD at onset (P=0.035) and advanced disease status (P<0.001) with inferior aGVHD-specific survival. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the risk and prognostic factors for aGVHD by NCC with some differences with the previous reports that were based on old criteria. The difference in the risk factors according to different criteria will give insights about the pathophysiology of GVHD. The better prognosis of late-onset aGVHD than of classic aGVHD raises the necessity for prospective trials with a large cohort focusing on the onset time.
Long-term documentation of anatomic and angiographic characteristics pertaining to the timing of recanalization in coiled aneurysms has been insufficient. Our intent was to analyze and compare early ...and late-phase recanalization after coiling, identifying respective risk factors.
A total of 870 coiled saccular aneurysms were monitored for extended periods (mean, 30.8 ± 8.3 months). Medical records and radiologic data were also reviewed, stratifying patients as either early (
= 128) or late (
= 52) recanalization or as complete occlusion (
= 690). Early recanalization was equated with confirmed recanalization within 6 months after the procedure, whereas late recanalization was defined as verifiable recanalization after imaging confirmation of complete occlusion at 6 months. A multinomial regression model served to assess potential risk factors, the reference point being early recanalization.
Posterior circulation (
= .009), subarachnoid hemorrhage at presentation (
= .011), second attempt for recanalized aneurysm (
< .001), and aneurysm size >7 mm (
< .001) emerged as variables significantly linked with early recanalization (versus complete occlusion). Late (versus early) recanalization corresponded with aneurysms ≤7 mm (
= .013), and in a separate subanalysis of lesions ≤7 mm, aneurysms 4-7 mm showed a significant predilection for late recanalization (
= .008). However, the propensity for complete occlusion in smaller lesions (≤7 mm) increased as the size diminished.
Although long-term complete occlusion after coiling was more likely in aneurysms ≤7 mm, such lesions were more prone to late (versus early) recanalization, particularly those of 4-7 mm in size. Long-term follow-up imaging is thus appropriate in aneurysms >4 mm to detect late recanalization of those formerly demonstrating complete occlusion.
The exploitation of various plant materials for the biosynthesis of nanoparticles is considered a green technology as it does not involve any harmful chemicals. The present study reports the ...synthesis of silver (Ag) nanoparticles from silver precursor using the bark extract and powder of novel
Cinnamon zeylanicum. Water-soluble organics present in the plant materials were mainly responsible for the reduction of silver ions to nano-sized Ag particles. TEM and XRD results confirmed the presence of nano-crystalline Ag particles. The pH played a major role in size control of the particles. Bark extract produced more Ag nanoparticles than the powder did, which was attributed to the large availability of the reducing agents in the extract. Zeta potential studies showed that the surface charge of the formed nanoparticles was highly negative. The EC
50 value of the synthesized nanoparticles against
Escherichia coli BL-21 strain was 11
±
1.72
mg/L. Thus
C. zeylanicum bark extract and powder are a good bio-resource/biomaterial for the synthesis of Ag nanoparticles with antimicrobial activity.
The effects of oxygen on the mechanical properties and the lattice strain of commercial pure CP) Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloys are discussed here in terms of the Vickers hardness, tensile strength and ...elongation. The Vickers hardness and tensile strength of the CP Ti and the Ti-6Al-4V alloys increased with an increase in the oxygen concentration. On the other hand, the elongation of the CP Ti decreased considerably as the oxygen concentration increased, while that of the Ti-6Al-4V alloys gradually decreased as the oxygen concentration increased. Thus, the oxygen concentration has a greater effect on the mechanical properties of CP Ti compared to its effects on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy. This can be explained in terms of the difference in the solid solution effect of oxygen between the CP Ti and the Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Where, the mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy were previously affected by an earlier lattice expansion caused by an increment in the c/a ratio of the Ti-6Al-4V during the Al and V alloying process.

Abstract
Future-proofing current fibre networks with quantum key distribution (QKD) is an attractive approach to combat the ever growing breaches of data theft. To succeed, this approach must offer ...broadband transport of quantum keys, efficient quantum key delivery and seamless user interaction, all within the existing fibre network. However, quantum networks to date either require dark fibres and/or offer bit rates inadequate for serving a large number of users. Here we report a city wide high-speed metropolitan QKD network—the Cambridge quantum network—operating on fibres already populated with high-bandwidth data traffic. We implement a robust key delivery layer to demonstrate essential network operation, as well as enabling encryption of 100 Gigabit per second (Gbps) simultaneous data traffic with rapidly refreshed quantum keys. Network resilience against link disruption is supported by high-QKD link rates and network link redundancy. We reveal that such a metropolitan network can support tens of thousands of users with key rates in excess of 1 kilobit per second (kbps) per user. Our result hence demonstrates a clear path for implementing quantum security in metropolitan fibre networks.
Minor recanalization in coiled aneurysms may remain stable with time or may progress to major recanalization. Our aim was to monitor the aneurysms displaying minor recanalization in imaging studies ...at 6 months, gauging major recanalization rates and related risk factors through extended follow-up.
Sixty-five aneurysms (in 65 patients) showing minor recanalization in follow-up imaging at 6 months were reviewed retrospectively. Medical records and radiologic data accruing during extended monitoring (mean, 24.8 ± 8.2 months) were assessed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to identify risk factors for progression from minor-to-major recanalization.
Progression to major recanalization was observed in 24 (36.9%) of the initially qualifying aneurysms during a follow-up of 112.5 aneurysm-years, for an annual rate of 17.84% per aneurysm-year. Progression was determined chronologically as follows: 14 (58.3%) at 6 months, 8 (33.3%) at 18 months, and 2 (8.4%) at 30 months. Stent deployment significantly decreased the occurrence of major recanalization (OR = 0.22, P = .03), whereas antiplatelet therapy (OR = 0.82, P = .75), posterior location (OR = 0.24, P = .20), and second coiling for recanalized aneurysms (OR = 0.96, P = .96) were unrelated.
Our analysis determined a 36.9% rate of major recanalization during a follow-up of 112.5 aneurysm-years in coiled aneurysms showing minor recanalization at 6 months. Stent deployment alone conferred a protective effect, preventing further recanalization without additional treatment. Given the fair probability of late major recanalization, aneurysms showing minor recanalization at 6 months should be monitored diligently, particularly in the absence of stent placement.
ICA-ophthalmic artery aneurysms have unique configurations corresponding to relative risks of ophthalmologic morbidities. Presented herein are clinical and radiologic outcomes of coil embolization in ...ophthalmic artery aneurysms.
From January 2003 to September 2013, endovascular coiling was performed in 43 consecutive patients with ophthalmic artery aneurysms, each classified by the degree to which the ophthalmic artery was incorporated by the aneurysm and the contiguity between the ophthalmic artery entry and parent ICA. Clinical and radiologic outcomes of this approach were investigated, including the technical aspects of treatment and the efficacy of balloon test occlusion.
Among 14 patients (32.6%, all ophthalmic artery types) undergoing balloon test occlusion before endovascular coiling, patent collaterals between the external carotid artery and ophthalmic artery were demonstrated in 12 (85.7%) and complete compromise of the ophthalmic artery (without affecting vision) occurred in 4 patients during coiling. Steam-shaped S-configured (67.9%) or straight microcatheters (17.8%) facilitated aneurysm selection in most of the superiorly directed ophthalmic artery aneurysms (n = 28), and steam-shaped pigtail microcatheters (85.7%) were useful in medially directed aneurysms (n = 14). Balloon protection (n = 22) was generally used to facilitate coiling, or a stent (n = 9) was alternatively deployed. Satisfactory aneurysmal occlusion was achieved through coil embolization in 37 lesions (86.1%). During follow-up of 35 patients (mean interval, 12.9 ± 9.4 months), only 1 instance (2.9%) of major recanalization was observed.
If one tailors technical strategies, ophthalmic artery aneurysms are amenable to safe and effective endovascular coil embolization, which tends to be stable in follow-up. Balloon test occlusion may be helpful in devising treatment strategies to preserve vision when coiling ophthalmic artery aneurysms (especially those incorporating an ophthalmic artery origin) is done.
Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease, affecting over 3.5 million women worldwide, yet the functional role of cis-regulatory elements including super-enhancers in different breast cancer subtypes ...remains poorly characterized. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer with a poor prognosis. Here we apply integrated epigenomic and transcriptomic profiling to uncover super-enhancer heterogeneity between breast cancer subtypes, and provide clinically relevant biological insights towards TNBC. Using CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing, we identify genes that are specifically regulated by TNBC-specific super-enhancers, including FOXC1 and MET, thereby unveiling a mechanism for specific overexpression of the key oncogenes in TNBC. We also identify ANLN as a TNBC-specific gene regulated by super-enhancer. Our studies reveal a TNBC-specific epigenomic landscape, contributing to the dysregulated oncogene expression in breast tumorigenesis.
