In order to ensure the optimal state of recovered molding sand inside a foundry, it is necessary to avoid temperature peaks and to ensure optimal humidity conditions prior to reusing the sand. Sand ...that is too hot or without optimal moisture can cause production delays due to a long mixing process, excessive consumption of raw materials, or poor agglutination. To ensure a stable and optimal sand temperature, many foundries choose to incorporate coolers into their process, however, it is a solution that is not always viable, either due to their high cost or a lack of space within the facility. Another solution is to incorporate water sprinklers into the cooling drum which contribute by reducing the temperature of the castings and the sand, but these systems do not prevent temperature peaks from occurring. Therefore, here, we present a control methodology, based on a digital architecture that, governed by an intelligent digital twin allows us to know the real situation and the current rate of production, providing suggestions for water addition. The obtained system reduces the average temperature and its variation, as well as eliminates temperature peaks, giving a more controlled manufacturing process.
Geomagnetic field reversals remain as one of the most intriguing problems in geophysics and are regarded as chaotic processes resulting from a dynamo mechanism. In this article we use the polarity ...scale data of the last 170 Myrs collected from the ocean floor to provide robust evidence for an inverse relationship between the complexity of sequences of consecutive polarity intervals and the respective reversal rate. In particular, the variability of sequences of polarity intervals reaches minimum values in the mid-Jurassic when a maximum reversal rate is found, in the early Cretaceous preceding the Cretaceous Superchron, and twice in the last 20 Myrs. These facts raise the possibility of epochs of high regularity in the geomagnetic field reversals. To shed light on this process, we investigate the transition from regular to chaotic regime in a minimal model for geomagnetic reversals. We show that even in chaotic regimes, the system retains the signature of regular behavior near to transitions. We suggest that geomagnetic reversals have switched between different degrees of irregularity, with a dominant periodicity of ≈70 kyrs that results from the occurrence of “ghost” limit cycles (GLCs) or unstable periodic orbits (UPOs) immersed in a chaotic region of phase space.

Stickiness is a well known phenomenon in which chaotic orbits expend an expressive amount of time in specific regions of the chaotic sea. This phenomenon becomes important when dealing with ...area-preserving open systems because, in this case, it leads to a temporary trapping of orbits in certain regions of phase space. In this work, we propose that the different scenarios of dynamical trapping can be explained by analyzing the crossings between invariant manifolds. In order to corroborate this assertion, we use an adaptive refinement procedure to approximately obtain the sets of homoclinic and heteroclinic intersections for the area-preserving Hénon map, an archetype of open systems, for a generic parameter interval. We show that these sets have very different statistical properties when the system is highly influenced by dynamical trapping, whereas they present similar properties when stickiness is almost absent. We explain these different scenarios by taking into consideration various effects that occur simultaneously in the system, all of which are connected with the topology of the invariant manifolds.

Resumen Las urbes latinoamericanas están segregadas en el espacio de forma tal que los ciudadanos de ingresos altos suelen habitar en entornos más seguros, mejor urbanizados y con mejor acceso a ...servicios. Además, enfrentan problemas ambientales propios de las grandes aglomeraciones urbanas, tales como desequilibrios en la disponibilidad y demanda de agua potable, sobregeneración de residuos sólidos y deficiencias en su tratamiento. En este artículo nos preguntamos por la relación entre la segregación espacial, la satisfacción con el entorno y los comportamientos responsables con el medio ambiente, con base en un análisis multivariado de los datos de la Encuesta de Percepción Ciudadana 2017 aplicada en la ciudad de Barranquilla, Colombia. Los resultados sustentan la existencia de una relación entre los segregación, satisfacción y comportamientos y sugieren dos matices importantes relacionados con los comportamientos que suceden en los espacios privados o públicos, de un lado y con la relación de propiedad o arriendo de las viviendas, de otro.
Resumo As urbes latino-americanas são segregadas espacialmente, os cidadãos de ingressos altos costumam habitar nos entornos com maior segurança, melhor urbanizados e com melhor acesso a serviços. Além do mais, enfrentam problemas ambientais próprios das grandes aglomerações urbanas, tais como desequilíbrios na disponibilidade e demanda de água potável, superprodução de resíduos sólidos e deficiências no seu tratamento. Este artigo nos perguntamos pela relação entre segregação espacial, satisfação com o entorno e os comportamentos responsáveis com o meio ambiente, com base em uma análise multivariada dos dados da Enquete de Perceção Cidadã 2017, para a cidade de Barranquilla na Colômbia. Os resultados apoiam a existência de uma relação entre segregação, satisfação e comportamentos e sugerem duas nuances importantes relacionadas com os comportamentos que ocorrem em espaços privados ou públicos, por um lado, e com a relação de propriedade ou arrendamento de casas, por outro.
Abstract Latin American cities are segregated in space in ways that high-income citizens tend to live in safer, better-urbanized neighborhoods, with better access to services. Also, they face environmental problems that are typical of large cities, such as imbalances in the availability and demand of drinking water, over-generation of solid waste, and deficiencies in their treatment. In this article we ask about the relationship between spatial segregation, satisfaction with the neighborhood and responsible behavior with the environment, based on a multivariate analysis of the data of the Survey of Citizen Perception 2017, for Barranquilla city in Colombia. The results support the existence of a relationship between segregation, satisfaction and behaviors and suggest two important nuances related to the behaviors that occur in private or public spaces, on the one hand, and with the relationship of ownership or rental of homes, on the other.
En este artículo se explican las teorías que soportan la actividad ludificadora, se establecen las diferencias y similitudes pedagógicas fundamentales entre jugar, juegos educativos y ludificación, y ...se ejemplifican las posturas de los autores con tres estudios de caso sobre productos diseñados en el Laboratorio de Aprendizaje de la Institución Universitaria Ceipa, consistentes en un simulador computacional, un juego de mesa y un aplicativo móvil.La aplicación de estrategias propias de los juegos se hace cada vez más común en el mundo educativo, así como en el empresarial, sin embargo, todavía falta profundizar en el concepto de ludificación y en las estrategias educativas ludificadas, de manera que impacte e inspire la forma en la que se diseñan estas actividades en el mundo escolar y laboral.
