PM brushless motors with trapezoidal EMF are perhaps today the most used motors for low-cost applications. An increasing number of solutions is aimed to reduce control electronics in this kind of ...motor in order to reduce total size. The paper shows an application in which virtually all power and signal electronic components are placed in the same chassis as the motor. Particularly, Hall switches are placed inside motor slots, to provide adequate slot switching. The motor is thereby capable to be self commutated, just like an ideal DC machine. The reduced dimensions of the whole drive allows a suitable application of such a solution in a different field of application as robotics, automotive and so on. The placement of components inside the motor obviously poses some electrical, magnetic and thermal problems that are approached in the paper by means of finite element modelling and experimental tests.
The paper illustrates the operation of a tubular machine as a linear generator for reciprocating energy sources. Reciprocating energy sources utilization is rapidly increasing nowadays due to the ...interests in marine energy. Linear generators adopted in marine power plants, offer the advantage of generating without introducing any conversion crank gear or hydraulic system. The use of tubular machine topology allows to improve electromagnetic thrust density. The paper shortly summarizes the principles of the marine wave buoy interaction and reports the design analysis and control of a PM synchronous tubular linear machine based on a scaled prototype
3D numerical simulations of unipolar electrograms (EGs) and hybrid monophasic action potentials (HMAPs) were performed by using the cardiac Bidomain model with homogeneous and heterogeneous Luo–Rudy ...I membrane models. While estimating local recovery times from EGs can be difficult in case of flat T-waves or linear ST ramps, the HMAP signal always displays a monophasic downstroke as does the transmembrane action potential (TAP) and contains valuable information for assessing repolarization time. The simulation results show that: (a) the HMAP fast repolarization time is a reliable estimate of the TAP fast repolarization time; (b) the HMAP ending (90%) repolarization time is a less reliable estimate of the TAP ending repolarization time; (c) analogous conclusions hold for the associated action potential durations APD and APD90.
A parallel solver for numerical simulations of a full cardiac cycle in three dimensional domains, based on the anisotropic monodomain and bidomain models, is presented. The solver employs structured ...isoparametric trilinear finite elements in space and a semi-implicit adaptive method in time. Parallelization and portability are based on the PETSc parallel library. Large-scale parallel computations have been run, simulating anisotropic dispersion of the action potential duration.
A new low power CMOS four quadrant analog multiplier based on the operation of MOS transistors in linear region is presented. The simulated performances prove that it is possible to achieve an high ...input to supply ratio without a considerable amount of biasing current. Unlike almost all other designs of four quadrant multiplier in literature, this circuit allows a very low power dissipation (6 /spl mu/W for cell) using both low biasing current (4 /spl mu/A) and a 1.5 V supply. These properties make this circuit very suitable for ANN applications as a precise weighting synapse and for low power analog signal processing for portable applications. The circuit achieves an high linearity (less than 40 dB of Vina/b=1.5 Vpp@200 kHz) and a small area occupied (94 /spl mu/m/spl times/88 /spl mu/m with bias section included).
