A summary of new knowledge on embryo implantation in dependence on quality of the endometrium.
Literature review from August 2022 of the relevant publications in Web of Science, Scopus and ...PubMed/Medline databases, focused on “endometrial receptivity”, “polycystic ovary syndrome”, “endometriosis”, “SARS-CoV-2”.
The receptive state of the endometrium is a result of physiological remodeling and immune system activity modulated by the microbio-me. This balance can be disturbed by myomas, polyps, sactosalpings, adenomyosis, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, infections. The effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection is being discussed. For a successful implantation, timing of transfer is crucial. The ultrasound examination is used conventionally. In specific cases, hysteroscopy and endometrium bio-psy are recommended. Histological and immunohistochemical evaluation is performed together with examination of microbio-me or transcriptome. To support the implantation, gestagenes are used, or metformin in the patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. In cases of a repeated implantation failure, the intrauterine infusion of mononuclear cells or platelet rich plasma is used, subcutaneous application of granulocyte colony stimulating growth factor, intravenous application of atosiban or intrauterine application of human chorionic gonadotropin.
Recent research in the field of transcriptomics, proteomics and reproductive immunology uncovers the process of implantation more deeply and opens a new stage of the assisted reproduction.
Abstract Reproductive period in woman is characterized by cyclic changes of endometrium and its regeneration. The factors important for proper function of the endometrium are anatomical structure, ...hormonal control and signalling pathways on molecular-genetic level. New knowledge on uterine microbiome, mutual epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) of endometrial cells refine our conception of changes on cellular level, endometrial receptivity and possible causes of endometrial dysfunction. Substantial information on bacterial colonisation of endometrium were discovered by new diagnostic methods using analysis of ribosomal RNA in 16S subunit which are able to detect and exactly identify bacteria that are not detectable by classic cultivation methods. Endometrial microbiome prevents development of pathogenous microorganisms and modulates function of endometrial cells. It has been proven that stromal cells contribute to regeneration of not only the endometrial stroma, but also of the epithelium. Activity of ovarian steroids and other factors leads to EMT/MET, which ensures different functions of endometrium throughout the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. The endometrial microbiome and mutual transition of stromal and epithelial endometrial cells are necessary for physiological functions of uterine mucosa including implantation and development of an embryo. Abstract Approximately half of the cases of infertility are due to male factor. In many cases the underlying cause of male infertility is not discovered and, therefore, the condition is considered ...idiopathic. Examination of morphology, motility, concentration and total sperm count is very important but not sufficient for complex men fertility evaluation. Sperm DNA integrity is a very important one. Sperm DNA can be fragmented by several internal or external factors. In immature sperm cells, the DNA can be repaired by reparatory mechanisms of spermatogonia or spermatocytes. However, in a haploid mature sperm cell, these fragments can not be repaired by male and the fragmented DNA is transferred to oocyte. Oocytes are able to repair male fragmented DNA after their fertilization. A quality embryo can repair damaged sperm DNA and the repair system depends on cytoplasmic and genomic quality of the oocyte. We report a powerful method for capturing the time-resolved concentration profiles, liquid swelling and surface phenomena during the absorption of methane (CH.sub.4) in still liquid ethanol (C.sub.2 ...D.sub.6 O) and n-decane (n-C.sub.10 D.sub.22) and at high spatial resolution (pixel size 21.07 mum) using neutron imaging. Absorption of supercritical methane was followed at two temperatures and two pressures of methane, namely 7.0, 37.8 #176;C and 80, 120 bar. Fick's second law, which was used in the liquid-fixed coordinates, enabled for an adequate parameterization of the observed concentration profiles and liquid levels using simple analytical expressions. For both studied liquids, anomalously slow diffusion was observed in the initial stage of the absorption experiment. This was ascribed to the slow formation of the surface excess on the interface, time constant ranged 130-275 s. The axial symmetry of the cell allowed for the tomographic reconstructions of the profiles of the menisci. Based on these profiles, contact angle and surface tension were evaluated using the Young-Laplace equation. Overall, neutron imaging made it possible to capture time- and space-resolved information from which the methane concentration, liquid level and meniscus shape under high-pressure conditions inside a cylindrical titanium vessel were quantitatively derived. Multiple characteristics of ethanol, a methane hydrate inhibitor, and n-decane, a model constituent of crude oil, were thus measured for the first time under industrially relevant conditions in a one-pot experiment.

An advanced statistical analysis of patients' faces after specific surgical procedures that temporarily negatively affect the patient's mimetic muscles is presented. For effective planning of ...rehabilitation, which typically lasts several months, it is crucial to correctly evaluate the improvement of the mimetic muscle function. The current way of describing the development of rehabilitation depends on the subjective opinion and expertise of the clinician and is not very precise concerning when the most common classification (House-Brackmann scale) is used. Our system is based on a stereovision Kinect camera and an advanced mathematical approach that objectively quantifies the mimetic muscle function independently of the clinician's opinion. To effectively deal with the complexity of the 3D camera input data and uncertainty of the evaluation process, we designed a three-stage data-analytic procedure combining the calculation of indicators determined by clinicians with advanced statistical methods including functional data analysis and ordinal (multiple) logistic regression. We worked with a dataset of 93 distinct patients and 122 sets of measurements. In comparison to the classification with the House-Brackmann scale the developed system is able to automatically monitor reinnervation of mimetic muscles giving us opportunity to discriminate even small improvements during the course of rehabilitation.
Atrioventricular canal defect is a rare congenital disorder of the heart and describes the presence of an atrial septal defect, a variable presentation of ventricular septal alterations including ...ventricular septal defect malformations in the mitral and tricuspid valves. The defect has been described in human beings, dogs, cats, pigs, and horses.
This paper describes the case of a complete atrioventricular canal defect in a four-year-old intact male pet ferret (Mustela putorius furo), which was presented due to posterior weakness, ataxia, and decreased appetite. A loud systolic murmur, dyspnea, and hind limb paraparesis were detected during the clinical examination. Thoracic radiographs showed generalized cardiomegaly and lung edema. ECG showed sinus rhythm with prolonged P waves and QRS complexes. Echocardiography showed a large atrial septal defect, atrioventricular dysplasia, and a ventricular septal defect. Palliative treatment with oxygen, furosemide, spironolactone, enalapril, diltiazem, and supportive care was chosen as the therapy of choice. The ferret recovered gradually during hospitalization. A follow-up examination at three and six months showed stabilization of cardiac function.
To the authors knowledge, this is the first time an atrioventricular canal defect has been described in a pet ferret.

Background
Albuminuria, an important marker of decreased kidney function in chronic kidney disease (CKD), is not routinely used for CKD detection or proteinuria appearance. Its relationships with ...biochemical parameters and blood pressure in dogs are poorly understood.
Objectives
This study aimed to evaluate the relationship of albuminuria with various CKD markers, its correlation with the urinary protein to creatinine ratio (UPC), and hypertension in dogs with early stages of CKD. It also sought to determine the usability of the urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (UAC) for CKD screening.
Methods
The study reviewed records of 102 dogs, categorising them into four groups based on disease status. UAC and UPC ratio, biochemistry and haematology variables, age, and systolic blood pressure were determined.
Results
The Pearson's correlation coefficient between log‐transformed values of UPC and UAC was r = 0.902 (95% CI: 0.87 to 0.93). Median UAC ratio values were 2.1 mg/g for the Healthy control group (n = 17), 54.2 mg/g for early stages CKD (n = 42), 5.8 mg/g for Acute sick control (n = 30), and 104 mg/g for Chronic sick control (n = 13). Thresholding UAC ratio as an indicator for impaired kidney function with the threshold of 10 mg/g (established based on the receiver operating characteristic curve) had a sensitivity 81.8%, specificity of 89.4%, positive predictive value (PPV) 90%, and negative predictive value (NPV) 80.1%. The correlation of UAC with biochemistry and haematology variables was statistically significant; for SDMA (μg/L), it was r = 0.566 and for other variables, it was weak to moderate. UAC was markedly elevated in cases of severe hypertension.
Conclusions
UAC ratio was significantly different among dogs with impaired and not impaired kidney function. The correlation strength for the UAC and UPC ratios was high. UAC ratio may be a promising marker for proteinuria analysis in dogs with CKD or other kidney function alterations.
A total of 102 records were reviewed to establish the relationship between albuminuria and various markers of kidney function in canine chronic kidney disease. The urinary albumin to creatinine ratio significantly differed between dogs with impaired and nonimpaired kidney function. We propose a threshold for screening impaired kidney function.
This paper focuses on the statistical analysis of mimetic muscle rehabilitation after head and neck surgery causing facial paresis in patients after head and neck surgery. Our work deals with an ...evaluation problem of mimetic muscle rehabilitation that is observed by a Kinect stereo-vision camera. After a specific brain surgery, patients are often affected by face palsy, and rehabilitation to renew mimetic muscle innervation takes several months. It is important to be able to observe the rehabilitation process in an objective way. The most commonly used House–Brackmann (HB) scale is based on the clinician’s subjective opinion. This paper compares different methods of supervised learning classification that should be independent of the clinician’s opinion. We compare a parametric model (based on logistic regression), non-parametric model (based on random forests), and neural networks. The classification problem that we have studied combines a limited dataset (it contains only 122 measurements of 93 patients) of complex observations (each measurement consists of a collection of time curves) with an ordinal response variable. To balance the frequencies of the considered classes in our data set, we reclassified the samples from HB4 to HB3 and HB5 to HB6—it means that only four HB grades are used for classification algorithm. The parametric statistical model was found to be the most suitable thanks to its stability, tractability, and reasonable performance in terms of both accuracy and precision.
After certain types of brain surgery, patients are often affected by changes in both their dynamic balance and facial disorder. Because rehabilitation takes several months, it is important that both ...doctors and patients are able to monitor progress quantitatively. At present, such quantification is subjective and highly dependent on the doctor’s opinion. Thus, we here investigate the use of robot-based image analysis for measuring rehabilitation. To evaluate a patient’s dynamic balance, we developed a mobile robotic platform that uses a stereovision camera (MS Kinect) to capture a video of the subject walking along a hospital corridor. To evaluate a patient’s facial disorders, the same camera is used in a static mode to detect and capture precise facial movements that the subject is asked to perform. From these videos, specific patterns can be extracted for rehabilitation process description.
