Objective
Clinical and pathological characteristics of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) treatment are required for escalation or de-escalation of treatment because of a lack of druggable targets. ...This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the risk of disease recurrence and disease-related death in patients with TNBC.
Methods
Patients with TNBC who were treated at the University Medical Centre Maribor between January 2010 and December 2017 were studied. Clinical and pathological data were analyzed using multivariate analysis and non-parametric tests. Subgroup analysis was performed to examine additional factors that affect 5-year overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival.
Results
Multivariate analysis showed that tumor size and the lymph node ratio (LNR) were significant risks in our population. Better discrimination of patients at risk of a shorter recurrence-free survival and OS was achieved by using the LNR. Only lymphovascular invasion was significant for predicting 5-year OS.
Conclusion
For risk-based decision-making systems, the LNR is useful for discriminating between high- and low-risk patients with TNBC.
The aim of the study was to compare the frequency of positive peritoneal washings in endometrial cancer patients after either hysteroscopy (HSC) or dilatation and curettage (D&C).
We performed a ...retrospective analysis of 227 patients who underwent either HSC (N = 144) or D&C (N = 83) and were diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma at the University Medical Centre Maribor between January 2008 and December 2014. The incidence of positive peritoneal cytology was evaluated in each group.
There was no overall difference in the incidence of positive peritoneal washings after HSC or D&C (HSC = 13.2%; D&C = 12.0%; p = 0.803). However, a detailed analysis of stage I disease revealed significantly higher rates of positive peritoneal washings in the HSC group (HSC = 12.8%; D&C = 3.4%; p = 0.046). Among these patients, there was no difference between both groups considering histologic type (chi-square = 0.059; p = 0.807), tumour differentiation (chi-square = 3.709; p = 0.156), the time between diagnosis and operation (t = 0.930; p = 0.357), and myometrial invasion (chi-square = 5.073; p = 0.079).
Although the diagnostic procedure did not influence the overall incidence of positive peritoneal washings, HSC was associated with a significantly higher rate of positive peritoneal cytology in stage I endometrial carcinoma compared to D&C.
Although the artefacts belonging to the so-called Danubian Horsemen cult have
been scientifically examined from various standpoints, the definitive
answers to the question of their nature have not ...yet been reached. One of
the key reasons that can be distinguished with regard to this is the lack of
insight into the archaeological context since, in comparison to the total
number of these artefacts, a small percentage of the samples have been found
during archaeological excavations. As the more recent corpora of lead icons
points to the conclusion that a significant number originates from the area
of the province of Pannonia Inferior, especially its south-eastern part
(today`s Srem, Macva and Posavina), in this paper we have tried to establish
at least the widest context they belonged to. Thus, based on the place where
they were found, and considering the basic features of the site where it was
possible, we investigated whether they belonged to a settlement, necropolis
or military setting. Consequently, we concluded that the civil context was
dominant in this geographic area in the case of the finds of the so-called
Danubian Horseman cult, while we also determined which type of icons were
the most prevalent. As the concentration of the lead plaques in this area
surpasses the other Danubian provinces, we recognise new possibilities for
the interpretation of their function as well as the dating of particular
series.
Apart from assessing the nutrition status, the diagnosis of obesity also includes the assessment of mass and distribution of adipose tissue which provides revealing of latent types of obesity that ...hold higher health risks. The aim of our study was to assess the nutritional status and to analyze the prevalence of normal weight obesity and abdominal obesity in students from the University of Novi Sad.
The body mass index, waist circumference and body fat mass were assessed in the group of 371 students from the University of Novi Sad (their average age being 22.9 +/- 2.5 y).
One-fifth of the study sample students were found to be overweight and obese, i.e. 21% and 1.1%, respectively. The frequency of overweight and obesity was higher in male respondents (overweight: 41.67% vs. 6.05%; obesity: 1.92% vs. 0.46%). Among the survey respondents, there were 4.6% of underweight students, all of whom were female students. Body fat was found to be increased in 11% of the students, the frequency being higher in the males. The phenomenon of obesity in normal body mass was recorded in 7% of the respondents, being more frequent in female students. The total of 5.6% of female students and 5.8% of male students had abdominal obesity.
The survey results indicate the necessity and obligation to direct attention to regular and complete diagnostics of obesity in order to determine the size of fat body mass and its distribution. The presence of obesity in normal body mass among young, student population requires the comprehensive, detailed and timely diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
