Context: Neck circumference (NC) has been suggested as an alternative measure to screen for excess body weight.
Objective: The aim of this study was to demonstrate the accuracy of neck circumference ...(NC) as a measure for assessing overweight and obesity in both sexes in different age groups.
Methods: Detailed individual search strategies were developed for each of the following bibliographic databases: Cochrane, LILACS, PubMed/MEDLINE, Science Direct, Scopus and Web of Science. The QUADAS-2 checklist was used to assess the methodology of the studies included.
Results: Thirty-eight assessments were performed in 11 articles according to age, sex and weight status. Using sensitivity and specificity, 27 assessments (71.0%) considered NC an accurate measure to diagnose overweight and obesity. The best sensitivity and specificity were found for the age >19 years (82.0%, 82.0%), female (80.0%, 73.0%), and obese (80.0%, 85.0%) categories.
Conclusion: NC is an accurate tool for assessing overweight and obesity in males and females of different age groups and could be used to screen for excess body weight in routine medical practice or epidemiological studies. It is also believed that more studies will permit the creation of a reference dataset of NC cut-off values for world populations.

Objectives
To study the independent effect of pre-pregnancy weight, gestational weight gain (GWG), and other important risk factors on newborn birth weight.
Methods
Baseline data of 435 adult women ...and their singletons born between January and February 2012 at a public hospital in Brazil were used. Logistic regression was applied to determine the independent importance of pre-pregnancy weight and GWG for large for gestational age (LGA) newborns.
Results
Among all mothers, 37.9 % were overweight and obese before pregnancy and 45.3 % experienced excessive GWG. Among the newborns, 24.4 % were classified as LGA. Univariate analysis showed an association of family income, GWG, pre-pregnancy BMI and excessive GWG with LGA newborns. Smoking before and during pregnancy was associated with a decreased likelihood of giving birth to an LGA newborn compared to mothers who did not smoke. After adjustment for confounding variables, age at birth of first child, GWG, HbA1c and pre-pregnancy weight-GWG were significant and independent determinants of giving birth to an LGA newborn. Mothers with pre-pregnancy overweight and excessive GWG were more likely to deliver an LGA newborn (OR 2.54,

< 0.05) compared to mothers who were normal weight and experienced adequate GWG.
Conclusions for Practice
Age at first birth of child, GWG, HbA1c and pre-pregnancy overweight combined with excessive GWG are independent determinants of LGA newborns. The results of this study suggest that both primary prevention of overweight in women of childbearing age and management of GWG may be important strategies to reduce the number of LGA newborns and, consequently, the long-term public health burden of obesity.

The research in the gray literature was performed using the Google Scholar database. The bias risk analysis was adapted from the Downs and Black scale, used to evaluate the methodology of the included studies.
Using the classifications of fetal macrosomia (>4.000g or ≥4.000g) and large for gestational age (above the 90th percentile), 64 risk factors for excess birth weight were found in 33 scientific articles in the five regions of the country. Of the 64 risk factors, 31 were significantly associated with excess birth weight, with excess gestational weight gain, pre-gestational body mass index ≥25kg/m2, and gestational diabetes mellitus being the most prevalent.
The main predictors for excess birth weight in Brazil are modifiable risk factors. The implementation of adequate nutritional status in the gestational period and even after childbirth appears to be due to the quality and frequency of the follow-up of the mothers and their children by public health agencies.

Revisão sistemática realizada nos bancos de dados bibliográficos: PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane, Scopus, Web of Science e LILACS. A pesquisa na literatura cinzenta foi realizada na base de dados Google Acadêmico. A análise do risco de viés foi adaptada da escala de Downs and Black, utilizada para avaliar a metodologia dos estudos incluídos.
Utilizando-se as classificações macrossomia fetal (>4.000g ou ≥4.000g) e grande para idade gestacional acima do percentil 90, foram encontrados 64 fatores de risco para excesso de peso ao nascer em 33 artigos científicos nas cinco regiões do país. Dos 64 fatores de risco, 31 foram significativamente associados a excesso de peso ao nascer, sendo ganho de peso gestacional excessivo, índice de massa corporal pré-gestacional ≥25kg/m2 e diabetes mellitus gestacional os mais prevalentes.
Os principais preditores para o excesso de peso ao nascer no Brasil são fatores de risco modificáveis. O estabelecimento de um estado nutricional adequado no período gestacional e mesmo após o parto parece ser a qualidade e a frequência do acompanhamento dos órgãos de saúde junto às mães e seus filhos.
We examined the predictors of excess body weight (EBW) concurrently affecting mother-child pairs after delivery during 6 years of follow-up.
Prospective cohort study conducted on 435 mother-child ...pairs. Data were collected at four time points: at birth in the maternity hospital; 1-2 years old, 4-5 years old and 6 years old at the participant's home. Poisson regression analysis was used to examine the predictors of maternal-child EBW: mothers with excessive gestational weight gain (GWG) and large-for-gestational age (LGA) baby (>90th percentile) at baseline and mothers with body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m2 and a child > 85th percentile.
The adjusted analysis showed that the risk of mother-child pairs concurrently having EBW increased with increasing pre-pregnancy BMI (RR = 2.4 and RR = 3.3 for pre-pregnancy BMI 25-30 and ≥30 kg/m2, respectively, P < 0.01). Excessive GWG and LGA infants were also significant predictors of EBW concurrently affecting mother-child pairs (RR = 2.2 and RR = 2.3, respectively, P < 0.01).
Excessive pre-pregnancy BMI, excessive GWG and LGA status were strong predictors of EBW concurrently affecting mother-child pairs over 6 years of follow-up. Public policies must be established primarily before/during pregnancy to avoid an EBW cycle in the same family over the years.
O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o perfil nutricional de idosos com Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 em seguimento nas Unidades Básicas de Saúde da Família (UBSF) no município de Joinville-SC. Materiais ...e Métodos: estudo observacional de corte transversal do tipo descritivo, com coleta de dados secundário, que utilizou uma amostragem não probabilística de conveniência. Utilizou-se variáveis como: peso, estatura, índice de massa corporal (IMC), presença de Hipertensão Arterial Sistêmica (HAS), qual tipo e frequência de tratamento é realizado para controle glicêmico. Para a análise dos dados, foi realizada estatística descritiva. Resultados: após a avaliação de 29 prontuários de idosos diabéticos, foi possível identificar maior prevalência do sexo feminino 51,72% (n=15). Em relação ao estado nutricional houve maior prevalência de obesidade 51,72% (n=15), composta em sua maioria por homens 60,00% (n=9). Foi observado prevalência de (HAS) em 85,76% (n=24), com maior frequência entre as mulheres 54,17% (n=13) e observado que a maioria dos pacientes com obesidade possuem HAS 80,00% (n=12). Ao verificar a forma de tratamento realizada foi possível constatar que 61,54% (n=16) faz uso de somente 1 forma de tratamento e 38,46% (n=10) faz uso de 2 formas associadas. Dentre eles, 41,38% (n=12) fazem uso de insulina, sendo que 58,33% (n=7) administram o medicamento 3 vezes ao dia e 82,76% (n=24) fazem uso de hipoglicemiante oral, sendo que 50% (n=12) administram o medicamento 3 vezes ao dia. Conclusão: Os resultados obtidos contribuíram para verificar o preocupante estado nutricional, além das morbidades existentes entre o grupo de pacientes rotineiramente acompanhados nas UBSF. Diante desses dados sugere-se que as medidas de educação alimentar e nutricional, sejam adotadas para minimizar os efeitos metabólicos adversos que o estado nutricional exerce sobre o DM2.

Among them, 41.38% (n=12) use insulin, 58.33% (n=7) administer the medication 3 times a day and 82.76% (n=24) use oral hypoglycemic agents, with 50% (n=12) administering the medication 3 times a day. Conclusion: The results obtained contributed to verify the worrying nutritional status, in addition to the morbidities existing among the group of patients routinely monitored in the UBSF. In view of these data, it is suggested that food and nutrition education measures be adopted to minimize the adverse metabolic effects that nutritional status has on DM2. Key words: Old man. Introdução e objetivo: A rotina dos taxistas é bastante árdua, passam grande parte do tempo de trabalho sentados, lidam com o trânsito estressante e longas jornadas de trabalho, o consumo de lanches ...é comum, porque na maior parte do tempo precisam estar sempre prontos para atender seus clientes, o que muitas vezes interfere nos hábitos de vida e na alimentação. Diante do exposto, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o estado nutricional de taxistas do aeroporto e rodoviária de Joinville/SC. Materiais e Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo transversal, com taxistas com um ano ou mais de serviço. Realizou-se a antropometria, e aplicação de questionários sobre hábitos de vida, condições de trabalho e frequência alimentar. Resultados: A média de idade dos 30 participantes foi de 51,2 anos, com prevalência do sexo masculino. Verificou-se obesidade e excesso de peso em 86,7% dos taxistas, 86,7% dos trabalhadores com o risco cardiovascular, grande incidência de sedentarismo, baixo consumo de alimentos in natura, ingesta hídrica insuficiente. Sobre as condições de trabalho foi averiguado que a carga horária excede 12 horas diárias e poucas folgas. Discussão: a maioria dos taxistas trabalham a longos anos nesta profissão, possuem carga horária excessiva e alimentação baseada em alimentos processados. Conclusão: essas condições decorrentes da profissão podem influenciar negativamente sobre a alimentação e qualidade de vida dos mesmos se não houver um despertar e um esforço por parte dos mesmos, desse modo, é necessário a realização de ações de conscientização sobre alimentação e aspectos de saúde geral.
O objetivo desta pesquisa foi associar as horas de consumo de tela e de atividade física com o IMC de escolares adolescentes de uma escola privada de Joinville-SC. Materiais e Método: Os ...participantes foram selecionados por amostragem probabilísticas de conveniência. Foram avaliados em relação ao indicador antropométrico (IMC/idade), o consumo alimentar através de um Questionário de Frequência Alimentar e ao tempo de consumo de tela e atividade física. Os dados foram tabulados no Microsoft Excel Office 2010 e analisados segundo a estatística descritiva. Resultados: Do total de adolescentes (n=47) investigados todos estudantes de uma escola privada de Joinville/SC. Em relação a avaliação antropométrica, segundo IMC/idade, a média das meninas encontrou-se no percentil P50 com média de IMC de 18,26 kg/m2; e os meninos encontraram-se entre os percentis P50 e P85 com média de IMC de 19,65 kg/m2. Cerca de 80,85% dos adolescentes faziam lanches entre as principais refeições (almoço e jantar); 46,80% realizavam quatro refeições diárias; 25,53% cinco ou mais refeições diárias; 27,65% duas/três refeições diárias. Destacaram-se, no ambiente escolar, o consumo de bolachas recheadas (27,65%), frutas (23,40%), salgados assados (23,40%). Foi observado que 51,06% dos adolescentes investigados ficavam mais de três horas assistindo televisão, brincando no game ou navegando na internet. Segundo a OMS o consumo de alimentos com elevada densidade energética é maior enquanto se está em frente à TV, vídeo game e internet. Conclusão: Os resultados obtidos contribuíram para conhecer o estado nutricional da população investigada, e os fatores que podem condiciona-los. ABSTRACT Association between nutritional status, screen consumption hours and physical activity in adolescentsThe objective of this research was to associate the hours of screen consumption and physical activity with the BMI of adolescent schoolchildren from a private school in Joinville-SC. Materials and Methods - Participants were selected by probabilistic sampling of convenience. We evaluated the anthropometric index (BMI / age), the food consumption through a Food Frequency Questionnaire and the time of screen consumption and physical activity. The data was tabulated in Microsoft Excel Office 2010 and analyzed according to the descriptive statistics. Results - Out of the total number of adolescents (n = 47) investigated, 59.57% were girls, all students from a private school in Joinville / SC. Regarding the anthropometric evaluation, according to BMI / age, the mean of the girls was found in the P50 percentile with a mean BMI of 18.26 kg / m2; and the boys were between the P50 and P85 percentiles with a mean BMI of 19.65 kg / m2. About 80.85% of the adolescents made snacks between the main meals (lunch and dinner); 46.80% had four meals a day; 25.53% five or more meals daily; 27.65% two / three meals a day. In the school environment, the consumption of filled cookies (27.65%), fruits (23.40%), roasted salted (23.40%) were emphasized. It was observed that 51.06% of the investigated adolescents spent more than three hours watching television, playing games or surfing the internet. According to the WHO, the consumption of food with a high energy density is greater while it is in front of TV, video game and internet. Conclusion - The results obtained contributed to know the nutritional status of the population investigated, and the factors that can condition them.
