We have extracted 565 neutron spectroscopic factors of sd and fp shell nuclei by systematically analyzing more than 2000 measured (d, p) angular distributions. We are able to compare 125 of the ...extracted spectroscopic factors to values predicted by large-basis shell-model calculations and evaluate the accuracies of spectroscopic factors predicted by different shell-model interactions in these regions. We find that the spectroscopic factors predicted for most excited states of sd-shell nuclei using the latest USDA or USDB interactions agree with the experimental values. For fp shell nuclei, the inability of the current models to account for the core excitation and fragmentation of the states leads to considerable discrepancies. In particular, the agreement between data and shell-model predictions for Ni isotopes is not better than a factor of 2 using either the GXPF1A or the XT interaction.
A novel solar-powered adsorption cooling system for low-temperature grain storage has been built, which consists of a solar-powered water heating system, a silica gel–water adsorption chiller, a ...cooling tower and a fan coil unit. The adsorption chiller is composed of two identical adsorption units, each of them containing an adsorber, a condenser, and an evaporator/receiver. The two water evaporators have been incorporated into one methanol evaporator by the use of the concept of a gravity heat pipe. In order to improve the system efficiency and achieve continuous cooling production, the adsorbers are operated out-of-phase, and heat and mass recovery processes have been used. During the period from July to September of 2004, the system was put into experimental operation to cool the headspace (i.e., the air volume above the grain) of a grain bin. Three months of operation showed promising performance. The chiller had a cooling power between 66 and 90
W per m
2 of collector surface, with a daily solar cooling coefficient of performance (COP
solar) ranging from 0.096 to 0.13. The electric cooling COP was between 2.6 and 3.4.
The green buildings of Shanghai Research Institute of Building Science include an office building for the demonstration of public building and two residential buildings, which are for the ...demonstration of flat and villa, respectively. Here, a solar-powered integrated energy system including heating, air-conditioning, natural ventilation and hot water supply was designed and constructed for the office building. However, only solar hot-water systems were installed for the flat and villa. All the three solar thermal systems have continuously run for 2 years. Two different integrated approaches have been put into practice in the two green residential buildings. It is shown that, for new buildings, solar collectors can be mounted on balconies and awnings besides roofs, on condition that solar systems become part of the general building design. The solar-powered integrated energy system has the advantage of high utilization ratio with different functions according to different seasons. It is testified to be capable of taking on about 70% of the yearly building load regarding the involved space under the weather condition of Shanghai.
Adult stem cells are multipotent and persist in small numbers in adult tissues throughout the lifespan of an organism. Unlike differentiated cells, adult stem cells are intrinsically resistant to ...senescence. It is unclear how adult stem cells in solid organs respond to oncogenic stimulation and whether these cells have a role in tumor initiation. We report here that expression of BRAF(V600E) in human neural crest progenitor cells (hNCPCs) did not induce growth arrest as seen in human melanocytes, but instead, increased their cell proliferation capacity. These cells (hNCPCs(V600E)) acquired anchorage-independent growth ability and were weakly tumorigenic in vivo. Unlike in human melanocytes, BRAF(V600E) expression in hNCPCs did not induce p16(INK4a) expression. BRAF(V600E) induced elevated expression of CDK2, CDK4, MITF and EST1/2 protein in hNCPCs, and also induced melanocytic differentiation of these cells. Furthermore, overexpression of MITF in hNCPCs(V600E) dramatically increased their tumorigenicity and resulted in fully transformed tumor cells. These findings indicate that hNCPCs are susceptible to BRAF(V600E)-induced transformation, and MITF potentiates the oncogenic effect of BRAF(V600E) in these progenitor cells. These results suggest that the hNCPCs are potential targets for BRAF(V600E)-induced melanocytic tumor formation.
Background
The clinical value of perineural invasion (PNI) in patients with localized prostate cancer (PCa) is widely explored. However, its role in metastatic PCa (mPCa) remains unknown.
Objectives
...We aim to investigate the clinical significance of PNI in patients with mPCa.
Materials and methods
Data of 515 mPCa patients between 2012 and 2018 were retrospectively studied. PNI and its intensity were identified by prostate biopsy. The prognostic value of PNI was evaluated by Kaplan–Meier curves and Cox proportional‐hazards model.
Results
Perineural invasion was detected in 170/515 (33.0%) cases. Among them 73/170 (42.9%) and 97/170 (57.1%) harbored unifocal PNI (uni‐PNI) and multifocal PNI (multi‐PNI), respectively. Compared to patients without PNI, those with PNI had statistically shorter castration‐resistant PCa‐free survival (CFS) and numerically shorter overall survival (OS) (mCFS: 15.4‐ vs. 18.5‐Mo, p = 0.015; mOS: 63.8‐ vs. 71.4‐Mo, p = 0.108). Patients harboring multi‐PNI were associated with poorer clinical outcomes than those with uni‐PNI (mCFS: 12.4‐ vs. 18.0‐Mo, p = 0.040; mOS: 39.7‐Mo vs. NR, p = 0.018) or those without PNI (mCFS: 12.4‐ vs. 18.5‐Mo, p = 0.002; mOS: 39.7‐ vs. 71.4‐Mo, p = 0.002). Totally, neither uni‐PNI nor multi‐PNI was an independent risk factor impacting survival outcomes in multivariate analyses. While remarkably, for patients with favorable/intermediate‐risk mPCa, multi‐PNI was an independent adverse prognosticator for both CFS and OS (CFS: HR: 1.705, 95% CI: 1.029–2.825, p = 0.038; OS: HR: 3.294, 95% CI: 1.464–7.413, p = 0.004).
Discussion and Conclusion
This study filled the blank of the clinical significance of PNI in mPCa. We found that multi‐PNI could distinguish men with relatively poor prognosis from patients initially regarded as with favorable survival outcomes by other prognosticators, and thus, avoid disease underestimation in this group of patients. Our finding would help physicians have a deeper understanding of the heterogeneity of mPCa and make better individualized therapeutic strategy.
Summary
Reports on the efficacy and safety of long‐term entecavir treatment in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) predominantly genotype B or C are insufficient. This study presents the efficacy and safety of ...entecavir maleate in Chinese CHB patients. Patients were randomly assigned to receive 48‐week treatment with either 0.5 mg/day entecavir (group A) or 0.5 mg/day entecavir maleate (group B), and then all patients received treatment with 0.5 mg/day entecavir maleate from week 49. Two hundred and seventy‐five patients with CHB (HBeAg‐positive: 218) were analysed, predominantly (98.5%) with genotype B or C. Baseline characteristics were balanced. For the HBeAg‐positive CHB patients, the mean HBV DNA level decreased similarly (A: by 6.36 log10 IU/mL vs B: by 6.31 log10 IU/mL) between groups at week 144. The percentages of patients who achieved undetectable HBV DNA were similar (A: 70.59% vs B: 66.67%) between groups. Similar HBeAg loss rates (A: 43.53% vs B: 40.23%; P>.05) and HBeAg seroconversion rates (A: 21.52% vs B: 21.18%) were achieved. For the HBeAg‐negative CHB patients, similar reductions in HBV DNA levels from baseline (A: by 6.13 log10 IU/mL vs B: by 5.65 log10 IU/mL) and percentages of patients who achieved undetectable HBV DNA (A: 100% vs B: 100%) were achieved. The overall incidence of adverse events was comparable between groups. In conclusions, 48‐week administration of entecavir maleate and entecavir showed similar efficacy and safety in Chinese patients with CHB. Long‐term entecavir maleate treatment was effective and safe in CHB patients.
Rice chromosome single segment substitution line (SSSL) W23-19-06-06-11 with the genotype Rf3Rf3/Rf4Rf4, a strong restorer line for wild-abortive (WA) cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS), was recently ...identified from the SSSL library. To investigate the genetic mode of Rf genes and the genetic relationship among WA, yegong (Y), and dwarf-wildabortive (DA) CMS systems, the plants derived from three BC3F2 populations involving W23-19-06-06-11 and the three CMS lines, that carried the Rf3Rf3/Rf4Rf4, Rf3Rf3/rf4rf4, and rf3rf3/Rf4Rf4 genotypes and WA-, Y-, and DA-CMS cytoplasm, were selected and their pollen and spikelet fertility were evaluated. The results show that the genetic effect displayed a trend of Y-CMS > WA-CMS > DA-CMS in the genetic background of W23-19-06-06-11, the effect of Rf4 appeared to be slightly larger than that of Rf3, and their effects were additive for the three CMS systems. Two pairs of dominant genes governed the fertility restoration in pollen and spikelet in the W23-19-06-06-11 which indicates that the genetic mode of the Rf genes was a qualitative character for the three CMS systems.
To evaluate the reliability of flow cytometry (FCM) for diagnosing lymphoma associated hemophagocytic syndrome (LAHS).
The clinical data in 57 patients with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis ...(HLH)were retrospective analyzed at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital from July 2010 to July 2019. All patients were performed bone marrow FCM and bone marrow pathological examination before final diagnoses were made. The golden diagnosis criterion was based on clinical, biochemical and histopathological evidence, which was regarded as the standard to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of FCM analysis in diagnosing LAHS.
Among 57 cases, 36 cases were eventually diagnosed with LAHS, including 15 B-cell lymphoma(14 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, 1 B-cell lymphoma with reactive T-cell hyperplasia), 13 aggressive NK/T cell lymphoma/leukemia, 2 cases of gamma-delta T-cell lymphoma, 4 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, 1 enteropathy-associated peripheral T-cell lymphoma and 1 anaplastic T-cell lymphoma.
