This paper has a two-fold aim: to analyze the development of the digital transformation field, and to understand the impact of digital technologies on business model innovation (BMI) through a ...structured review of the literature. The results of this research reveal that the field of digital transformation is still developing, with growing interest from researchers since 2014. Results show a need for research in developing countries and for more collaboration between researchers and practitioners. The review highlights that the field is fragmented among disruptive technologies, shared platforms and ecosystems, and new enabling technologies. We conclude that digital transformation has impacted value creation, delivery, and capture in almost every industry. These impacts have led to the employment of a variety of new business models, such as those for frugal innovation and the circular economy.
Crises generate disruptions, but they can also foster the development of academic moral entrepreneurship when the stakeholders' engagement is obtained. In this article, we present how knowledge ...translation (KT) was used to create stakeholder engagement in the academic moral entrepreneurship case of the Venice sustainability innovation accelerator (VeniSIA), an accelerator for sustainable business ventures developed by Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Italy. The extraordinary floods of 2019 and the early waves of the COVID-19 pandemic challenged the survival of the unique city of Venice, which was experiencing a decay crisis that seemed endless. However, the university functioned as a moral entrepreneur, rule enforcer, and catalyst to promote a greater common good. In a three-phase process, dedicated KT tools were adopted to commit various stakeholders from different ecosystems (academics, innovators, partners, and institutions) to align their goals to save the heritage of the city and ensure its sustainable future. This article sheds new light on the university's third mission and the potential yet decisive role of universities and researchers to foster conversations among meaningful stakeholders on topical issues that can shape the future of local and global communities.
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to deepen resource-based view theory by analyzing how intellectual capital (IC) affects performance in temporary teams and by showing the moderating role of ...integrative mechanisms.
Design/methodology/approach
The research context focuses on 153 national teams of football (NTF), also referred to as national soccer teams, as an example of temporary groups. A partial least squares (PLS) methodology was utilized on a data set built from transfermarkt.com and FIFA world rankings. Three main hypotheses were developed and tested using first a PLS and then an OLS approach.
Findings
The results show how IC contributes to performance, extending the findings of previous studies to the context of temporary teams. Additionally, the results show how some integrative mechanisms such as assembly decisions and team leader experience influence temporary team performance by creating an interaction effect with existing IC.
Originality/value
This study contributes to IC theories for three reasons. First, it applies IC research to a specific research context: temporary teams, where specific organizational capabilities are required to coordinate resources. Second, the study analyzes the role of integrative mechanisms as moderators of the relationship between IC and performance in temporary teams. Third, the study focuses on NTF as an example of temporary teams.
This study aims to establish the consumption values which are instrumental in formation of trust and influences the repurchase intention of subscribing to over-the-top (OTT) platforms. We propose a ...succinct theoretical model by using the theory of consumption values (TCV). We also employ trust to extend our model. The analysis of the responses collected through a survey was rendered using structural equation modeling and further examination of the model was done by mediation and moderation analysis. The identified five values were found to have a significant influence on building trust, whereas with the exception of social value all other proposed values had a positive influence on the repurchase intention. The investigation of the mediation effect of trust was also found significant between the association of proposed consumption values and repurchase intention of the OTT platform. This study sheds light on the consumption values that ensure OTT platforms' continuous use. Furthermore, the significance of trust as a predictor of intention continue subscription provides valuable insight into consumer behavior. The model used to examine the influence of consumption values in building trust is unique in the context of OTT platforms. This study also makes novel contributions for practitioners in the subscription-based online entertainment services. The online content creators as well as strategy managers can derive beneficial gains from the findings of the study.
This study aimed to evaluate the association of placental fetal vascular malperfusion lesions with neonatal brain injury and adverse infant neurodevelopmental outcomes.
PubMed and Medline, Scopus, ...and Cochrane databases were searched from inception to July 2022.
We included cohort and case-control studies reporting the associations of fetal vascular malperfusion lesions with neonatal encephalopathy, perinatal stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, periventricular leukomalacia, and infant neurodevelopmental and cognitive outcomes.
Data were analyzed by including fetal vascular malperfusion lesions as an exposure variable and brain injuries or neurodevelopmental impairment as outcomes using random-effects models. The effect of moderators, such as gestational age or study type, was assessed by subgroup analysis. Study quality and risk of bias were assessed by applying the Observational Study Quality Evaluation method.
Out of the 1115 identified articles, 26 were selected for quantitative analysis. The rates of neonatal central nervous system injury (neonatal encephalopathy or perinatal stroke) in term or near-term infants were more common among fetal vascular malperfusion cases (n=145) than among controls (n=1623) (odds ratio, 4.00; 95% confidence interval, 2.72–5.90). In premature deliveries, fetal vascular malperfusion lesions did not influence the risk of intracranial hemorrhage or periventricular leukomalacia (odds ratio, 1.40; 95% confidence interval, 0.90–2.18). Fetal vascular malperfusion–associated risk of abnormal infant neurodevelopmental outcome (314 fetal vascular malperfusion cases and 1329 controls) was modulated by gestational age being higher in term infants (odds ratio, 5.02; 95% confidence interval, 1.59–15.91) than in preterm infants (odds ratio, 1.70; 95% confidence interval, 1.13–2.56). Abnormal infant cognitive development and mental development were more common among fetal vascular malperfusion cases (n=241) than among controls (n=2477) (odds ratio, 2.14; 95% confidence interval, 1.40–3.27). The type of study (cohort vs case-control) did not influence the association between fetal vascular malperfusion and subsequent infant brain injury or abnormal neurodevelopmental outcome.
The findings of cohort and case-control studies indicate a considerable association between fetal vascular malperfusion placental lesions and increased risk of brain injury in term neonates, and neurodevelopmental impairment in both term and preterm infants. A diagnosis of placental fetal vascular malperfusion should be taken into consideration by both pediatricians and neurologists during the follow-up of infants at risk of adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes.
The union between Industry 4.0 and the circular economy (CE) appears relatively recent. In this sense, new trading zones for sharing a common scenario among academics and practitioners are needed. ...The paper aims to investigate the link between Industry 4.0 and the CE by understanding how Industry 4.0 can foster the impact of the CE on companies. The study proposes a broader perspective that includes thematic and content analysis gathering data on professional documents based on business cases, newspaper articles, press releases and specialised blogs, as well as scientific papers. The joint academic‐practitioners view highlights how Industry 4.0 has the potential to impact on the CE through countless actions: increasing waste disposal; promoting remanufacturing; enhancing the efficiency of critical resources such as water, energy, gas and CO2; and improving business models and the mission of companies. However, barriers still exist in its adoption, stressing the need for holistic and integrated design and a proactive environment of collaboration among stakeholders. Results lead to practical as well as research implications.
PurposeThis study aims to offer a bibliometric and coding analysis of blockchain articles published in the accounting, auditing and accountability fields.Design/methodology/approachThe data were ...collected using the Scopus database and a bibliometric and qualitative coding analysis with the keywords “blockchain” and “accounting” or “auditing” or “accountability.” Of the 514 initial sources, 93 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and conference proceedings in the areas of business, management and accounting were finally selected. Nonscientific sources such as nonpeer-reviewed books and white papers were excluded.FindingsThis study reveals a promising and multidisciplinary field of research dominated by scholars and less by practitioners. Qualitative research, especially discourse analysis, is the most used method among authors. This study gives some useful insights about blockchain's definition and characteristics, business models, processes involved, connection with other technologies and relationships with accounting theories. Among the most interesting insights, the results confirm that technology as an external force can create an intersection among several research areas: accounting, auditing, accountability, business, management, computer science and engineering fields. Finally, in terms of research themes, although blockchain has a clear effect on auditing accounting, the links with the area of accountability are less clear and validated.Originality/valueThis study highlights the current state of the field, combining methodological approaches and providing valuable future research insights. Additionally, it is also a starting point for professionals to fully understand blockchain's characteristics and potential with a constructive and systemic approach.
The paper investigates the relationship between Blockchain technology and new sustainable business models (SBMs). The literature notes a lack of empirical classifications and successful case studies. ...Using a multiple case studies methodology, our research article aims to answer the research question (RQ): How can Blockchain enable new SBMs and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? We present 20 business stories extracted from a combined analysis of the databases coinmarketcap.com and icobench.com, demonstrating how Blockchain can be used for environmental management. Notably, our analysis finds out four broad research clusters related to (i) smart energy management, (ii) climate change, (iii) waste management, and (iv) sustainable production. Mainly, an actual application of Blockchain toward SBMs is related to supply chain cost reduction. Finally, the research includes investments and their social scalability with Blockchain. Then, the final research cluster discovers social and proof sustainability. This study adds to the empirical literature evidence of SBMs offering a connection with the SDGs.
The main goal of this article is to identify the main dimensions of a model proposal for increasing the potential of big data research in Healthcare for medical doctors’ (MDs’) learning, which ...appears as a major issue in continuous medical education and learning. The paper employs a systematic literature review of main scientific databases (PubMed and Google Scholar), using the VOSviewer software tool, which enables the visualization of scientific landscapes. The analysis includes a co-authorship data analysis as well as the co-occurrence of terms and keywords. The results lead to the construction of the learning model proposed, which includes four health big data key areas for MDs’ learning: 1) data transformation is related to the learning that occurs through medical systems; 2) health intelligence includes the learning regarding health innovation based on predictions and forecasting processes; 3) data leveraging regards the learning about patient information; and 4) the learning process is related to clinical decision-making, focused on disease diagnosis and methods to improve treatments. Practical models gathered from the scientific databases can boost the learning process and revolutionise the medical industry, as they store the most recent knowledge and innovative research.
