Remote sensing is a useful tool for monitoring spatio-temporal variations of crop morphological and physiological status and supporting practices in precision farming. In comparison with ...multispectral imaging, hyperspectral imaging is a more advanced technique that is capable of acquiring a detailed spectral response of target features. Due to limited accessibility outside of the scientific community, hyperspectral images have not been widely used in precision agriculture. In recent years, different mini-sized and low-cost airborne hyperspectral sensors (e.g., Headwall Micro-Hyperspec, Cubert UHD 185-Firefly) have been developed, and advanced spaceborne hyperspectral sensors have also been or will be launched (e.g., PRISMA, DESIS, EnMAP, HyspIRI). Hyperspectral imaging is becoming more widely available to agricultural applications. Meanwhile, the acquisition, processing, and analysis of hyperspectral imagery still remain a challenging research topic (e.g., large data volume, high data dimensionality, and complex information analysis). It is hence beneficial to conduct a thorough and in-depth review of the hyperspectral imaging technology (e.g., different platforms and sensors), methods available for processing and analyzing hyperspectral information, and recent advances of hyperspectral imaging in agricultural applications. Publications over the past 30 years in hyperspectral imaging technology and applications in agriculture were thus reviewed. The imaging platforms and sensors, together with analytic methods used in the literature, were discussed. Performances of hyperspectral imaging for different applications (e.g., crop biophysical and biochemical properties’ mapping, soil characteristics, and crop classification) were also evaluated. This review is intended to assist agricultural researchers and practitioners to better understand the strengths and limitations of hyperspectral imaging to agricultural applications and promote the adoption of this valuable technology. Recommendations for future hyperspectral imaging research for precision agriculture are also presented.

Neuropathic pain (NeP), redefined as pain caused by a lesion or a disease of the somatosensory system, is a disabling condition that affects approximately two million Canadians.
To review the ...randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and systematic reviews related to the pharmacological management of NeP to develop a revised evidence-based consensus statement on its management.
RCTs, systematic reviews and existing guidelines on the pharmacological management of NeP were evaluated at a consensus meeting in May 2012 and updated until September 2013. Medications were recommended in the consensus statement if their analgesic efficacy was supported by at least one methodologically sound RCT (class I or class II) showing significant benefit relative to placebo or another relevant control group. Recommendations for treatment were based on the degree of evidence of analgesic efficacy, safety and ease of use.
Analgesic agents recommended for first-line treatments are gabapentinoids (gabapentin and pregabalin), tricyclic antidepressants and serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors. Tramadol and controlled-release opioid analgesics are recommended as second-line treatments for moderate to severe pain. Cannabinoids are now recommended as third-line treatments. Recommended fourth-line treatments include methadone, anticonvulsants with lesser evidence of efficacy (eg, lamotrigine, lacosamide), tapentadol and botulinum toxin. There is support for some analgesic combinations in selected NeP conditions.
These guidelines provide an updated, stepwise approach to the pharmacological management of NeP. Treatment should be individualized for each patient based on efficacy, side-effect profile and drug accessibility, including cost. Additional studies are required to examine head-to-head comparisons among analgesics, combinations of analgesics, long-term outcomes and treatment of pediatric, geriatric and central NeP.
Abstract
The ribosome exit tunnel is an important structure involved in the regulation of translation and other essential functions such as protein folding. By comparing 20 recently obtained cryo-EM ...and X-ray crystallography structures of the ribosome from all three domains of life, we here characterize the key similarities and differences of the tunnel across species. We first show that a hierarchical clustering of tunnel shapes closely reflects the species phylogeny. Then, by analyzing the ribosomal RNAs and proteins, we explain the observed geometric variations and show direct association between the conservations of the geometry, structure and sequence. We find that the tunnel is more conserved in the upper part close to the polypeptide transferase center, while in the lower part, it is substantially narrower in eukaryotes than in bacteria. Furthermore, we provide evidence for the existence of a second constriction site in eukaryotic exit tunnels. Overall, these results have several evolutionary and functional implications, which explain certain differences between eukaryotes and prokaryotes in their translation mechanisms. In particular, they suggest that major co-translational functions of bacterial tunnels were externalized in eukaryotes, while reducing the tunnel size provided some other advantages, such as facilitating the nascent chain elongation and enabling antibiotic resistance.

In Brugada syndrome (BrS), spontaneous type 1 electrocardiogram (ECG) is an established risk marker for fatal arrhythmias whereas drug-induced type 1 ECG shows a relatively benign prognosis. No study ...has analyzed the prognosis of fever-induced type 1 ECG (F-type1) in a large BrS cohort.
The objectives of this study were to assess the prognosis of F-type1 in asymptomatic BrS and to compare the effects of fever and drugs on ECG parameters.
One hundred twelve patients with BrS who developed F-type1 were retrospectively enrolled. Prognosis was evaluated in 88 asymptomatic patients. In a subgroup (n = 52), ECG parameters of multiple ECGs (at baseline, during fever, and after drug challenge) were analyzed.
Eighty-eight asymptomatic patients had a mean age of 45.8 ± 18.7 years, and 71.6% (67 of 88) were men. Twenty-one percent (18 of 88) had a family history of sudden cardiac death, and 26.4% (14 of 53) carried a pathogenic SCN5A mutation. Drug challenge was positive in 29 of 36 patients tested (80.6%). The risk of ventricular fibrillation in asymptomatic patients was 0.9%/y (3 of 88; 43.6 ± 37.4 months). ST-segment elevation in lead V2 during fever and after drug challenge was not significantly different (0.41 ± 0.21 ms during fever and 0.40 ± 0.30 ms after drug challenge; P > .05). Fever shortened the PR interval compared to baseline, whereas drug challenge resulted in prolonged PR interval and QRS duration (PR interval: 169 ± 29 ms at baseline, 148 ± 45 ms during fever, and 202 ± 35 ms after drug challenge; QRS duration: 97 ± 18 ms at baseline, 92 ± 28 ms during fever, and 117 ± 21 ms after drug challenge).
Patients with BrS who develop F-type1 are at risk of arrhythmic events. F-type1 appears to develop through a more complex mechanism as compared with drug-induced type 1 ECG.
Background and Aim
We aimed to evaluate the application of Peptest, a novel technique to detect pepsin in the saliva, and identify its threshold level for the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux ...disease (GERD) with extraesophageal symptoms.
Methods
A cross‐sectional study was conducted in two groups: patients with extraesophageal GERD symptoms (symptomatic group divided into GERD and non‐GERD groups according to 24‐h esophageal pH‐impedance monitoring pH‐I results) and healthy controls. For the symptomatic group, endoscopy, pH 24 h, high‐resolution manometry (HRM), and salivary Peptest were performed. For the healthy control group, only Peptest was done. The accuracy of Peptest was compared with that of pH‐I by the Lyon consensus criteria.
Results
Chronic laryngitis was the most frequent extraesophageal symptom. On saliva testing, the GERD group had a higher prevalence of positive samples and pepsin concentration than the control group. Between GERD and non‐GERD groups, the optimal threshold level was 31.2 ng/mL, with a sensitivity of 86.7% and specificity of 27.5%. The optimal threshold level was 31.4 ng/mL to differentiate GERD from healthy controls, with a sensitivity of 86.7% and specificity of 66.0%. Age, number of total refluxes, DeMeester score, post‐reflux swallow‐induced peristaltic wave (PSPW) index, and mean nocturnal baseline impedence (MNBI) were associated with pepsin concentration. Regarding HRM metrics, there was no significant difference of pepsin concentration between low/normal upper esophageal sphincter (UES) resting pressure, low/normal lower esophageal sphincter (LES) resting pressure, low/normal 4‐s integrated relaxation pressure (IRP4s), and hypomotility/normal motility.
Conclusion
Patients with extraesophageal symptoms had a higher prevalence of positive Peptest. The optimum threshold level of 31.4 ng/mL had high sensitivity and moderate specificity to differentiate between patients with GERD and healthy controls.

Lipid droplets (LDs) are ubiquitous organelles that facilitate neutral lipid storage in cells, including energy-dense triglycerides. They are found in all investigated metazoan embryos where they are ...thought to provide energy for development. Intriguingly, early embryos of diverse metazoan species asymmetrically allocate LDs amongst cellular lineages, a process which can involve massive intracellular redistribution of LDs. However, the biological reason for asymmetric lineage allocation is unknown. To address this issue, we utilize the Drosophila embryo where the cytoskeletal mechanisms that drive allocation are well characterized. We disrupt allocation by two different means: Loss of the LD protein Jabba results in LDs adhering inappropriately to glycogen granules; loss of Klar alters the activities of the microtubule motors that move LDs. Both mutants cause the same dramatic change in LD tissue inheritance, shifting allocation of the majority of LDs to the yolk cell instead of the incipient epithelium. Embryos with such mislocalized LDs do not fully consume their LDs and are delayed in hatching. Through use of a dPLIN2 mutant, which appropriately localizes a smaller pool of LDs, we find that failed LD transport and a smaller LD pool affect embryogenesis in a similar manner. Embryos of all three mutants display overlapping changes in their transcriptome and proteome, suggesting that lipid deprivation results in a shared embryonic response and a widespread change in metabolism. Excitingly, we find abundant changes related to redox homeostasis, with many proteins related to glutathione metabolism upregulated. LD deprived embryos have an increase in peroxidized lipids and rely on increased utilization of glutathione-related proteins for survival. Thus, embryos are apparently able to mount a beneficial response upon lipid stress, rewiring their metabolism to survive. In summary, we demonstrate that early embryos allocate LDs into specific lineages for subsequent optimal utilization, thus protecting against oxidative stress and ensuring punctual development.
