With a sample of approximately 89 x 10(6) B(-)B pairs collected with the BABAR detector, we perform a search for B meson decays into pairs of charmless vector mesons (phi, rho, and K*). We measure ...the branching fractions, determine the degree of longitudinal polarization, and search for CP violation asymmetries in the processes B+-->phiK(*+), B0-->phiK(*0), B+-->rho(0)K(*+), and B+-->rho(0)rho(+). We also set an upper limit on the branching fraction for the decay B0-->rho(0)rho(0).
A search for the decay of the tau lepton to seven charged pions and one or zero pizero mesons was performed using the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The analysis uses ...232.2 fb-1 of data at center-of-mass energies on or near the Y(4S) resonance. We observe 24 events with an expected background of 21.6+-1.3 events. Without evidence for a signal, we calculate an upper limit of BR(tau- --> 4pi- 3pi+ (pizero) nu_tau) < 3.0*10^-7 at 90 % confidence level. This is an improvement by nearly an order of magnitude over the previously established limit. In addition, we set upper limits for the exclusive decays tau- --> 4pi- 3pi+ nu_tau and tau- --> 4pi- 3pi+ pizero nu_tau.
We present a study of a CMOS test sensor which has been designed, fabricated and characterised to investigate the parameters required for a binary readout electromagnetic calorimeter. The sensors ...were fabricated with several enhancements in addition to standard CMOS processing. Detailed simulations and experimental results of the performance of the sensor are presented. The sensor and pixels are shown to behave in accordance with expectations and the processing enhancements are found to be essential to achieve the performance required.
