Different teaching approaches can be employed to facilitate the development of fundamental movement skills (FMS) and rhythmic abilities (RA) in early childhood. This study examined the influence of ...three different educational programmes on the development of FMS and RA. The Test of Gross Motor Development—Second Edition and RA tests were used to assess FMS and the RA development among 62 children (aged 5 to 6 years) before and after implementation of three different programmes: music and movement programme, movement-only programme, and traditional programme according to a standard kindergarten curriculum. Results revealed that music and movement are interrelated curricular areas. In addition to more frequently studied effects of integrating movement into music education, and the effects of music on movement performance, our results demonstrated that movement practice, alone, also facilitates RA development. The results of the present study indicate that the most effective way to promote FMS and RA development in early childhood is to integrate music and movement into a uniform programme.
The aim of the study was to find out which musical genres are young people’s favourite, why they listen to those specific genres and which genres they used to listen to in their childhood together ...with their parents. The results show that most students‘s favourite genres are pop, rock, RnB and popular folk music. The results confirm that the choice of genres listened to together with parents during childhood affects musical preferences of students.

The article analyses the results of a case study on a workshop for contemporary music which represents an excellent example of arts partnership in Slovenia. The aim of the workshop was to stimulate ...creative use of contemporary musical language in connection with the development of the lifelong cultural awareness and expression competence. The results of the interviews with 17 participants of the workshop pointed out the complex occurrence of various indicators, which, at the level of personal, social and intellectual competences, determined the nature of musical expression through contemporary music and indirectly influenced the development of the lifelong cultural awareness and expression competence. Through the creative process, participants expressed motivation and sensitivity for contemporary music and developed their musical abilities as well as their sense of community and self-identity. The identified challenges included students’ lack of musical experience with contemporary music, the low priority given to contemporary music in schools as well as teachers’ lack of professional knowledge in this field. In the interaction between the child and the adult, interest can be a significant motivational initiator of activities. Systematic monitoring and development of the interest in music activities ...enables the teachers to influence the preschool children in forming a positive attitude towards the art of music. The research involving preschool teachers, children at the age of five to six and their parents, was conducted in order to determine the interest of preschool teachers and children in music activities. We found that the teachers showed greatest interest in singing songs, playing instruments and listening to music. The children’s favourite activities in kindergarten were movement to music (dancing), singing songs and playing on instruments, namely activities where they could take active part in the educational process. The parents reported that at home the children preferred most to listen to music, to sing songs and move to the sounds of music, and less to play on instruments and to be creative in music. The development of the children’s interest in music depends on the teachers’ expression of interest in music activities, on the choice of music activities and music contents and on the experience in the music environment of the family.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of an experimental programme based on the integration of movement and music on the development of fundamental movement skills and rhythmic ...abilities. Sixty-two children aged from 5 to 6 years participated in the study. Results showed that children who were included in the music and movement programme as well as those included in the movement-only programme improved more in fundamental movement skills and rhythmic abilities than children from the control group. Considering the principle of horizontal integration of different curricular areas and different viewpoints on the child’s development and learning, the experimental music and movement programme proved to be more effective.
