Purpose - The purpose of this study is two-fold. The first is to relate the negative image of older workers to stereotype threat and to propose that effective retention management should start by ...replacing this negative image. The second is to assess the needs, perceptions and preferences of older workers regarding their career-ending.Design methodology approach - A total of 266 employer questionnaires and 1,290 older worker questionnaires identified the employers' perceptions of older workers and the career-ending needs and preferences of older workers.Findings - The results provide indirect support for the hypothesis that the negative image of older workers forms a self-fulfilling prophecy due to the mechanisms of stereotype threat. Furthermore, the results indicate that job involvement plays a crucial role in the preference for retirement or to keep on working.Research limitations implications - Stereotype threat promises to be very important when it comes to career-ending measures for older workers. However, the empirical design of the study limits the possibility of drawing direct inferences about the effects of stereotype threat on older workers.Practical implications - Measures and policies aimed at prolonging the participation of older workers at the labor market should be tailored to the specific needs, perceptions and preferences of older workers.Originality value - The concept of stereotype threat has never been connected with the perceptions of older workers. Further, the assessment of the needs, perceptions and preferences related to the career-ending of older workers has never before been examined in a European study.
The current article tests a longitudinal model of the process of proactive career behaviours and career success with two samples of graduates making the transition from college to work. Using ...structural equation modelling, we tested a theoretical model that specified the relationships between career progress goals, career planning, networking behaviours, and career success. A longitudinal panel study was conducted within two samples using a 3‐year (sample 1) and 1‐year (sample 2) time lag between the first and second data collection. The results support the process model and suggest that at graduation, career planning is affected by the goal of making career progress. In turn, career planning is positively associated with networking behaviours. Both career planning and networking at graduation are positively related to career planning and networking 1 year later (sample 1) but in sample 2, in which a 3‐year time lag was used, these relationships were no longer significant. Support is found for the relationship between networking during the early career and objective and subjective career success. The findings are discussed in terms of their general implications for understanding the proactive career behaviour process through which graduates affect their career success during the first years of their professional career.

This guest editorial introduces the special section of the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology ‘Careers research in Europe’. Contributing to the aim of the special section to ...highlight the value of the European careers research for the benefit of the global community of career scholars, as well as towards advancing researchers' understanding of contemporary careers, the guest editorial discusses two themes. The first theme concerns the importance of incorporating cultural context in career studies. The second theme concerns the value the European multilingual and multicultural context offers for career studies. It is suggested that the value of European research can be seen in the diversity it offers to views on careers. It includes: (a) diversity of social, political, and economic environments; (b) diversity of cultures; and (c) diversity of theories and methods that can be used in career studies.
Patients undergoing primary PCI were randomly assigned to either a genotype-guided strategy for selecting a P2Y

inhibitor or to standard treatment with ticagrelor or prasugrel. At 12 months, ...genotype-guided therapy was noninferior to standard treatment with respect to thrombotic events and resulted in a lower incidence of bleeding.
Rationale In patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who undergo primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI), the use of dual antiplatelet therapy is essential to ...prevent atherothrombotic complications. Therefore, patients are treated with acetylsalicylic acid and clopidogrel, prasugrel, or ticagrelor. Clopidogrel, however, shows a major interindividual variation in antiplatelet effect, which is correlated to an increase in atherothrombotic events in patients with high platelet reactivity. This interindividual variation is partly a result of CYP2C19 genetic variants. Ticagrelor and prasugrel reduce atherothrombotic events but increase bleeding rate and drug costs, as compared with clopidogrel. CYP2C19-based tailoring of antiplatelet therapy might be beneficial to STEMI patients. Study design POPular Genetics (NCT01761786) is a randomized, open-label, multicenter trial involving 2,700 STEMI patients who undergo pPCI. Patients are randomized to CYP2C19 genotyping or routine ticagrelor or prasugrel treatment. In the genotyping group, *1/*1 (wild-type) patients receive clopidogrel, and patients carrying 1 or 2 *2 or *3 loss-of-function alleles receive ticagrelor or prasugrel. The primary net clinical benefit end point is the composite of death, (recurrent) myocardial infarction, definite stent thrombosis, stroke, and Platelet Inhibition and Patient Outcomes (PLATO) major bleeding at 1 year. Primary safety end point is the composite of (PLATO) major and minor bleeding. Cost-effectiveness and quality of life will be assessed by calculating quality-adjusted life-years, net costs per life-year, and per quality-adjusted life-year gained. Conclusion The POPular Genetics study is the first large-scale trial comparing CYP2C19 genotype–guided antiplatelet therapy to a nontailored strategy in terms of net clinical benefit, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Aims
(1) To assess the effectiveness of the Sausage Technique™ when applied for lateral bone augmentation by multiple experienced clinicians; (2) To identify risk indicators for a poor outcome and to ...assess the need for adjunctive surgery.
Materials and Methods
All patients who had been treated with the Sausage Technique™ for lateral bone augmentation by three experienced surgeons between January 2019 and December 2021 were included in a retrospective case series. The Sausage Technique™ technique includes the use of autogenous bone chips and deproteinized bovine bone mineral (1:1 ratio), covered with a stretched and pinned collagen membrane. The increase in alveolar width between the pre‐operative situation and 9 months was assessed at different levels on superimposed cone‐beam CT scans.
Results
Twenty‐five augmentations performed in 25 patients (17 males, 8 females, mean age 51 years) were available for evaluation. Mean alveolar width increased from 4.35 to 7.43 mm at 3 mm below the crest. The mean increase of 3.08 mm (95% CI 2.10–4.06; p < 0.001) was significant. The outcome of non‐containing single implant sites was significantly worse than the outcome of other sites (MD 2.67 mm; p = 0.008). The need for regrafting was 4% and the need for soft tissue augmentation was 48%. Twenty percent of the patients needed soft tissue augmentation due to a lack of keratinized mucosa width, and 32% due to a lack of buccal convexity. The former was mainly needed at multiple implant sites, whereas the latter was mainly required at single implant sites. All implant survived and remained healthy until the final follow‐up.
Conclusion
The Sausage Technique™ is an effective bone augmentation technique. Non‐containing single implant sites were associated with a poor outcome and adjunctive soft tissue augmentation was needed in about half of the patients.
Summary
Patients exhibiting high on-clopidogrel platelet reactivity (HPR) are at an increased risk of atherothrombotic events following percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). The use of ...concomitant medication which is metabolised by the hepatic cytochrome P450 system, such as phenprocoumon, is associated with HPR. We assessed the level of platelet reactivity on clopidogrel in patients who received concomitant treatment with acenocoumarol (another coumarin derivative). Patients scheduled for PCI were included in a prospective, single centre, observational registry. Patients who were adequately pre-treated with clopidogrel were eligible for this analysis, which included 1,582 patients, of whom 104 patients (6.6 %) received concomitant acenocoumarol treatment. Platelet reactivity, as measured with the VerifyNow P2Y12 assay and expressed in P2Y12 Reaction Units (PRU), was significantly higher in patients on concomitant acenocoumarol treatment (mean PRU 229 ± 88 vs 187 ± 95; p< 0.001). In patients with concomitant acenocoumarol use, the proportion of patients with HPR was higher, defined as PRU > 208 (57.7 % vs 41.1 %; p=0.001) and PRU236 (49.0 % vs 31.4 %; p< 0.001). In multivariable analysis, concomitant acenocoumarol use was independently associated with a higher PRU and the occurrence of HPR defined as PRU236 (OR 2.00, 1.07–3.79), but not with HPR defined as PRU > 208 (OR 1.37, 0.74–2.54). PRU also was significantly increased after 1:1 propensity matching (+28.2; p< 0.001). As this was an observational study, confounding by indication cannot be excluded, although multivariable analyses and propensity matching were performed. The impact of the findings from this hypothesis-generating study on clinical outcome requires further investigation.
