This letter presents an innovative power amplifier (PA) behavioral model (BM) method valid for a range of different ambient temperatures and input power levels. This work presents a novel input image ...layer for a real-valued time-delay convolutional neural network (RVTDCNN). This image layer uses preprocessed ambient temperature and dissipated power. The preprocessed temperature and power as well as the present samples are placed in a central position inside the image layer. This maximizes the number of convolution operations that they are included in thereby magnifying the importance of these inputs in the feature maps. The newly proposed method delivers, in comparable conditions, a normalized mean square error (NMSE) improvement of over 3 dB compared to a previously published method.

Modern liberal democracy and authoritarian collectivism have known diverse political regimes; autocratic, oligarchic or democratic, they each consist of a mixed, partly oligarchic regime in which ...plebeian politics are subordinated. With authoritarian collectivism's defeat, a return to modernity has produced one more hybrid configuration.
An in-depth investigation of political modernity and how it is differentiated from other forms of society, this book researches its origins and trajectory as a specific dimension of modern civilisation - articulating a renewed critical theory through an analysis of rights and law, politics, state and autonomy, social reproduction, crisis and political change.
Examining these diverse aspects, Political Modernity and Social Theory proposes an encompassing and far-reaching approach spanning past and present - stressing radical plebeian democracy and maintaining a strong opening to the future and to possible alternatives to modernity.
In this paper we report the work that jeKnowledge (Júnior Empresa da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologias da Universidade de Coimbra), a student-led initiative, has done in the ‘jeKnowledge academy’ ...courses to actively engage Portuguese high-school students in STEM education through hands-on projects based on the low-cost Arduino platform. F2F activities, based on a peer-assisted learning strategy, were complemented with tutorials and more advanced project suggestions in a blog. Pre and post surveys on students' attitudes towards programming and peer-coaching were administered to pre-university and first year college participants, finding an overall increase in the Likert scale for all the programming-related constructs under study (confidence, interest, gender, usefulness and professional) after the introductory course. As regards the peer-based learning approach, younger students seemed to be more eager to be taught in a less formal way than their older counterparts. The course resulted in high degrees of satisfaction for both the student tutors and their tutees.
•Student-led introductory programming course for high-school students using Arduino.•Project-based approach for acquisition of computational thinking skills via PAL.•Pre and post surveys showed overall increase for all programming-related constructs.•Students totally agreed that women are as capable as men to excel in programming.•Significant age- and gender-related differences in attitude towards PAL were found.
This paper explores the intricate interplay between perceived challenge and narrative immersion within role-playing game (RPG) video games, motivated by the escalating influence of game difficulty on ...player choices. A quantitative methodology was employed, utilizing three specific questionnaires for data collection on player habits and experiences, perceived challenge, and narrative immersion. The study consisted of two interconnected stages: an initial research phase to identify and understand player habits, followed by an in-person intervention involving the playing of three distinct RPG video games. During this intervention, selected players engaged with the chosen RPG video games separately, and after each session, responded to two surveys assessing narrative immersion and perceived challenge. The study concludes that a meticulous adjustment of perceived challenge by video game studios moderately influences narrative immersion, reinforcing the enduring prominence of the RPG genre as a distinctive choice in narrative.
Breast cancer was the most diagnosed cancer in 2020. Several thousand women continue to die from this disease. A better and earlier diagnosis may be of great importance to improving prognosis, and ...that is where Artificial Intelligence (AI) could play a major role. This paper surveys different applications of AI in Breast Imaging. First, traditional Machine Learning and Deep Learning methods that can detect the presence of a lesion and classify it into benign/malignant—which could be important to diminish reading time and improve accuracy—are analyzed. Following that, researches in the field of breast cancer risk prediction using mammograms—which may be able to allow screening programs customization both on periodicity and modality—are reviewed. The subsequent section analyzes different applications of augmentation techniques that allow to surpass the lack of labeled data. Finally, still concerning the absence of big datasets with labeled data, the last section studies Self-Supervised learning, where AI models are able to learn a representation of the input by themselves. This review gives a general view of what AI can give in the field of Breast Imaging, discussing not only its potential but also the challenges that still have to be overcome.
Celebrating the bicentenary of Portuguese constitutionalism (1822), this article aims to contribute to the study of the genealogy of the notion and concept of “constitution” in this country, which ...has its origins in the pre-constitutionalism period, long before the Liberal Revolution of 1820. As a matter of fact, the modern concept of constitution established by the liberal revolutions of the 18th and 19th centuries had its own constitutional ancestors, which are not always notorious or of easy understanding. Generally, the most known and studied of them all is still the concept of “fundamental laws”, which is commonly known today as a synonym of constitution. From 1772 onwards, a new concept came about in Portugal, one of “civil constitution”. Therefore, without neglecting the comparison with what happened in other constitutional latitudes, in order to understand the formation process of the concept of “constitution” in Portugal, we’ve focused our research mainly around the notions of “fundamental laws” and “civil constitution”, which are the closer etymological predecessors to the modern Portuguese concept of constitution, formed as of 1820/22.
Assessing critical theory today, this book focuses on the connection between history and emancipation, centering on trends that structure modernity and may lead us beyond it. To achieve its goal, it ...returns to abandoned issues in social and sociological theory.
Purpose
The focus of this research is to investigate if user-generated content (UGC) generated in the Booking platform can support quality management improvement within the hospitality industry by ...increasing customer satisfaction and eliminating defects more efficiently. Hence, it contributes to understanding how data-driven companies can rely on customer data to focus on innovation and performance improvement to meet customer requirements, eliminate defects and increase customer satisfaction.
Design/methodology/approach
Following the literature review, information was collected from the digital platform Booking, encompassing 15 hotel industry companies in Portugal Porto and Braga regions, selected due to their high number of customer reviews. This data was organized and categorized, eliminating all unnecessary information for the research and building an Excel database. The database was subsequently analysed with SPSS and Voyant software, performing statistical analysis, hypothesis testing and text-mining techniques to analyse the comments. After these analyses, applying quality tools allowed for more in-depth conclusions.
Findings
The research results highlight that customers' most relevant requirements in the Portuguese hospitality industry are breakfast, parking and a swimming pool. It was also possible to realize that the location is an attractive requirement, the bathroom is a must-be requirement and breakfast is a performance requirement. The results also allowed us to answer the most critical research question: “Is user-generated content a valuable aid to quality?” the answer is yes since it was possible to use the data to find improvements and faults/failures in the services.
Originality/value
The results of this study represent an essential step towards a complete understanding of how to take advantage of UGC within the hospitality industry by establishing a solid base of techniques, methods and quality tools for UGC analysis that can be applied in future research on different industry sectors.
This paper discusses the trajectory of the concept of citizenship in its manifold dimensions and ramifications in modernity, bringing out its main worldwide concrete incarnations. Marshall's and ...Marx's definitions are discussed, but an effort is made to cover the most relevant global literature on the subject. It is argued that although modernity has become a catchphrase lately, it is increasingly threatened by recent developments in terms of what may be called social liberalism, which seats comfortably with the present pattern of global capitalist accumulation and neoliberalism. Finally, against these recent developments, the emancipatory potential of citizenship is briefly accessed.
