Agnieszka Graff is an author of academic and non-academic texts. An analysis of non-academic texts constitutes a basis for an article which includes sets of essays, columns and conversations. The ...second factor which determines the order in an article is chronology. The titles of her books are the mile stones. This structure allows to observe self-commentary, references and aspects, which she returns to. The most interesting are those which can be seen as the signs of autobiographism – self-citations, first-person narrative, mise en abyme. These are signs which the reader decodes as autobiographism and which constitute the autobiographic strategy (prefaces, afterwords which include interpretative hints). The aim of the article is an attempt to answer a question about the functions of (auto)biographism of Agnieszka Graff. Analysis of texts is a result of a question why Graff reaches for autobiographic instruments and in which way she uses these tools.
In the article the mechanism of use of autobiographical and biographical record of Polish men supporting emancipatory movements in the second half of the 19th century and in the early 20th century is ...analyzed. The author compares different records about biographies of Benedykt Dybowski, Kazimierz Keller-Krazuse, Ludwik Krzywicki and Ignacy Radliński. The analysis shows the way in which men supporting women’s emancipation are described by historians. The historians use – equally – autobiographical records, anecdotes and fictionalized biographies to create a picture of these men and, moreover, they collate it with the ideas included in journalistic texts of these authors. In these disclosed the literature should verify the emancipant views that are officially proclaimed by men. Analysed mechanism of appraising the authors on inconsistency of thesis and their private/family life is based on naive making autobiographical and journalistic records equal.
The author of the text asks about locality of masculinity categories. He refers to the framework theories of Raewyn Connell, Pierre Bourdieu and Franco La Cecla and postulates attempt to create local ...model/local models of masculinity – similarly to glocal use of Edward Said’s theory (e.g. balkanization and postdependence). Autobiographical subjectivity, research of biographies of Polish men supporting emancipatory movements and attempts to write autobiographies and biographies of masculinity included in 19th and 20th-century intimate writing and fiction texts can be the grounds for such a masculinity model.
Current vascular stents, such as drug eluting stents (DES), have some serious drawbacks, like in stent restenosis and thrombosis. Therefore, other solutions are sought to overcome these ...post-implantations complications. These include the strategy of biofunctionalization of the stent surface with antibodies that facilitate adhesion of endothelial cells (ECs) or endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs). Rapid re-endothelialization of the surface minimizes the risk of possible complications. In this study, we proposed ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/vinylpyrrolidone co-polymer-based surface (AVC), which was mercaptosilanized in order to expose free thiol groups. The presence of free thiol groups allowed for the covalent attachment of CD133 antibodies by disulfide bridges formation between mercaptosilanized surface and cysteine of the protein molecule thiol groups. Various examinations were performed in order to validate the procedure, including attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) and Fourier transform Raman spectroscopy (FT-Raman), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). By means of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy presence of the CD133 antibody within coating was confirmed. In vitro studies proved good biocompatibility for blood cells without induction of hemolytic response. Thus, proposed biofunctionalized CD133 antibody AVC surface has shown sufficient stability for adapting as cardiovascular implant coating and biocompatibility. According to conducted in vitro studies, the modified surface can be further tested for applications in various biological systems.
The text is an attempt at a psychotherapeutic reading of fiction written by Andrzej Stasiuk. The method assumes the application of psychodynamic theory and practice in the process of literary ...reading. The structure of the text corresponds to the story of the patient (case study). The article contains a presentation of the biographies of the characters and narrators of Stasiuk’s prose. The analysis focuses on their fears and attempts to overcome these fears. The synthesis includes metaphors and the sequence of scenes, the arrangement of the text. Reading of Stasiuk’s prose is based on the theory of unconscious expression, which proves that the sequences of our utterances reveal lines of unconscious thinking.
This article presents an extract from the research on the male support of the emancipation of Polish women at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In my consideration of the papers penned by ...authors who posited common and equal civil rights for men and women, I pay particular attention to Edward Prądzyński’s book published in 1873, and to the journalistic writing by Eugeniusz Starczewski from the end of the first World War. Their two projects for the emancipation of Polish women are diverse: while Prądzyński’s proposition was revolutionary, Starczewski’s work was late and limited in its emancipatory outlook.
The term “CITES crime” refers to crimes related to illegal trade in wild species of fauna and flora protected by the Washington Convention (1973). They are one of the manifestations of crime against ...the environment. A subgenre of criminology that researches in this area is the so-called ecocriminology/ green criminology. The aim of the article is to discuss the legal framework of criminal liability for CITES offences and criminological analysis of this social pathology. The previous achievements of ecocriminology are also presented and the relations between CITES crimes and other criminological categories of crime are indicated. In the legal part, the author discusses the relevant provisions of international law, European Union law and Polish criminal law with particular emphasis on articles 128, 128a and 129 of the Law on Conservation of Nature. In the criminological part, the author diagnoses the causes of these phenomena (aetiololgy), characterizes the symptomatic forms of pathologies occurring in this area (phenomenology), and proposes methods to prevent and combat these undesirable phenomena (counteraction).
explorers carry out searches illegally. However, enforcement of the rules of criminal liability for illegal searching is ineffective. However, the solutions proposed in the latest amendment will not ...improve this situation. It is therefore necessary to regulate this issue comprehensively, taking into account the proposals raised in the doctrine.
The text is an introduction to the journal issue devoted to the changes and metamorphoses of doctrines formed in the field of psychoanalytic thought. The authors point out the polyphonic nature of ...psychoanalysis and emphasize the special value of its susceptibility to transformation. In this introductory essay, emphasis is placed on both psychoanalytic theory and practice. The authors try to prove that the methods of interpreting literary works emerging from psychoanalysis today should take into account perspectives derived directly from analytical practices. The authors aim to prove that among the most important of these is a relational understanding of humanistic work (based on reading and writing practices), as well as a pluralistic account of the constantly renewed acts of interpretation.
