Sexual health is an integral part of overall health in older age. Research consistently reports that heterosexual and queer older people tend not to disclose sexual concerns and difficulties which ...increases the risks for sexually transmitted diseases. Older people are often absent from policies and information programmes and healthcare providers experience difficulties in initiating conversations around sexual health and history.
To identify what are the barriers that stop older people seeking sexual health advice and treatment.
A scoping review methodology was employed. Published and unpublished literature was scoped through development of a research question, identification of potentially relevant studies, selection of relevant studies using an iterative team approach, charting data, collating, summarising and reporting findings, and considering the implications of study findings for further research.
Electronic databases searches were run to identify published and unpublished literature, including Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, ASSIA, Social Sciences, RCN and Cochrane Libraries. Additional studies were located through hand searching.
Twelve studies from: the USA (n = 6); the UK (n = 3); Australia (n = 2); and one shared paper between New Zealand and UK met the inclusion criteria. Four barriers that stop older people seeking sexual health advice and treatment were identified, including (1) Cultural and societal views and beliefs toward sexual health; (2) Stigma, embarrassment and discrimination; (3) Lack of education and training of healthcare professionals; (4) Quality of relationship between patients and health professionals.
Barriers to seeking and receiving advice and treatment for sexual health in later life clearly exist and are both related to cultural and social factors. Overall, the papers reviewed in this scoping review indicate that healthcare providers are reluctant to initiate conversations around sexual health or offer appropriate advice or clinical tests, and that older people tend to be hesitant to seek medical help. Later life age groups independently from their sexual orientation represent a hidden population and are absent from sexual health campaigns and government policies. Efforts need to be made by influential institutions and healthcare providers to recognise sexuality in older age and give older people the opportunity to open up regarding their sexual health and experiences.

Plants have a unique ability to adapt ontogenesis to changing environmental conditions and the influence of stress factors. This ability is based on the existence of two specific features of ...epigenetic regulation in plants, which seem to be mutually exclusive at first glance. On the one hand, plants are capable of partial epigenetic reprogramming of the genome, which can lead to adaptation of physiology and metabolism to changed environmental conditions as well as to changes in ontogenesis programs. On the other hand, plants can show amazing stability of epigenetic modifications and the ability to transmit them to vegetative and sexual generations. The combination of these inextricably linked epigenetic features not only ensures survival in the conditions of a sessile lifestyle but also underlies a surprisingly wide morphological diversity of plants, which can lead to the appearance of morphs within one population and the existence of interpopulation morphological differences. The review discusses the molecular genetic mechanisms that cause a paradoxical combination of the stability and lability properties of epigenetic modifications and underlie the polyvariance of ontogenesis. We also consider the existing approaches for studying the role of epigenetic regulation in the manifestation of polyvariance of ontogenesis and discuss their limitations and prospects.
Many secretory cells increase the synthesis and secretion of cargo proteins in response to specific stimuli. How cells couple increased cargo load with a coordinate rise in secretory capacity to ...ensure efficient transport is not well understood. We used thyroid cells stimulated with thyrotropin (TSH) to demonstrate a coordinate increase in the production of thyroid-specific cargo proteins and ER-Golgi transport factors, and a parallel expansion of the Golgi complex. TSH also increased expression of the CREB3L1 transcription factor, which alone caused amplified transport factor levels and Golgi enlargement. Furthermore, CREB3L1 potentiated the TSH-induced increase in Golgi volume. A dominant-negative CREB3L1 construct hampered the ability of TSH to induce Golgi expansion, implying that this transcription factor contributes to Golgi expansion. Our findings support a model in which CREB3L1 acts as a downstream effector of TSH to regulate the expression of cargo proteins, and simultaneously increases the synthesis of transport factors and the expansion of the Golgi to synchronize the rise in cargo load with the amplified capacity of the secretory pathway.
The article for the first time presents a biography and considers the circumstances of the tragic death of Alexei Ivanovich Mikhailovsky, a lecturer in English and a compiler of the fundamental ...three-volume reference book “Teachers who studied and served at the Imperial Kazan University (1804–1904)”. Attention is paid to the conditions of Mikhailovsky’s work on a reference book in connection with the preparations for the 100th anniversary of Kazan University. The features of the material published by him as a unique source on the history of the university are revealed.
A detailed light scattering investigation is presented on dilute solutions of two long-chain sodium polyacrylates (NaPA) in the presence of monovalent Ag+ ions in 0.01 M NaNO3 aqueous solution at a ...pH of 9. The relevance for the investigation is based on two features: (i) despite its monovalency, Ag+ is expected to exhibit a much more complex interaction pattern with NaPA than salts based on alkaline cations do; (ii) aqueous solutions of AgNO3 nucleate Ag–nanoparticle formation in the presence of NaPA under UV light, which may be modulated by the solution behavior. Our study revealed the following results. Addition of a low amount of Ag+ ions leads to an aggregation of PA-chains without considerable coil shrinking. At a ratio of silver ions per monomer of 0.001 ≤ Ag+/COO– ≤ 0.05, combined static and dynamic light scattering (SLS/DLS) suggests formation of homogeneous low density aggregates. Further increase of the Ag+ ion concentration results in a formation of dense unstable aggregates. At ratios of Ag+/COO– > 0.3 with variable NaPA concentrations aggregation occurs within a few seconds, resulting in small but stable aggregates with a high density of Ag+–PA aggregates. A structure-sensitive factor ρ close to 0.5 obtained from combined SLS/DLS identifies a corona of dangling chains enclosing the stable dense Ag+–PA aggregates which have a size of 25–50 nm. Finally, a 3-fold excess of Ag+ to COO– in the systems induces precipitation of Ag+–PA.

The necessity of studying the stylistic features of A.S. Dargomyzhsky’s vocal creativity is substantiated to understand the relationship between music and words in works for voice and pi-ano, as the ...actual content of the process of developing competencies necessary for the pedagogical and concertmaster activities of graduates of a music and pedagogical university. The necessity of using the pedagogical component in the study of the concertmaster activity of composers, authors of chamber vocal and opera works has been proved. The main performing techniques of A.S. Dargomyzhsky, developing the principles of representatives of the Russian vocal school, are analyzed. We show the general and distinctive features in the methods of vocal teachers of other national schools: Italian, French, German. An understanding of the role of the creative union of singers and accompanists in the embodiment of the artistic content of musical works is formed. A.S. Dargomyzhsky’s innovative interpretation of traditional vocal genres led to the subordination of the means of musical expression to the main goal – to reveal the meaningful storyline of songs and romances. A parallel is drawn with the formation of performing and pedagogical principles in modern musical culture. The conclusion is made about the dominant role of artistic content in the performing interpretation of musical compositions, as the priority of the activities of musicians-teachers and performers of our time.
Recent achievements in the development of new methods for producing acetic acid (AA) from methane using heterogeneous catalysts are summarized and systematized. Modern heterogeneous-catalytic ...processes of methane conversion to AA via syngas and alternative one- and two-step AA production procedures via “low-temperature” oxidative methane conversion (via oxidative coupling, oxyhalogenation, oxidation into methanol, or oxidative transformations of СН

in the presence of carbon oxides) are considered. The major attention is paid to the one-step AA synthesis by methane oxydation with carbon dioxide (by carboxylation reaction). Specific features of heterogeneous catalysts recently developed for this reaction are discussed.
Abstract
This article presents a study of the frequency response of a MEMS gyroscope in a vacuum chamber. On the basis of experimental studies by the method of laser Doppler vibrometry, the ...dependences of the amplitude of oscillations of the inertial mass in the vertical plane at various pressures are obtained. The bandwidth of the MEMS sensor was also measured. As a result of the experiments, the damping factors were determined to compose a more complete mathematical model and for more accurate finite element modeling in ANSYS, and refined parameters of the electrostatic drive and the amplitude of oscillations along the axis of the drive were obtained. These studies will be useful for determining the residual degree of vacuum in the case for further frequency tuning of the device.
