The clinical effect of a new cephem derivative for oral use, T-2588, which had been administered to fifteen patients with respiratory tract infections at my hospital was excellent in one, effective ...in twelve, fair in one and inevaluable in one cases respectively. All of causative organism that were identified at four patients disappeared. One patient complained of discomfort of stomach and another one showed the elevation of LDH. From these observations, T-2588 impressed to be a useful antibacterial drug in general.
Cefuroxime axetil (CXM-AX) was administered to ten patients with a variety of infectious diseases. All patients responded well. All of the three isolated strains of S. pneumoniae were eradicated. No ...adverse effect was observed clinically. Eosinophilia was found in two cases and leukopenia appeared in one.
A new antibiotic, sultamicillin, was administered to six patients of whom 4 were with acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and 2 with acute tonsillitis. Five cases responded well, and the ...evaluation was impossible in one. As causative organisms, 3 strains ofH. influenzae and a mixed culture of S. pyogenes and S. aureus was obtained from one case. At all 4 cases, these organisms were eradicated. In one patient with tonsilltis, diarrhea occured and the administration was stopped. Another case showed the increase of eosinophils.
A new antibacterial chemotherapeutic agent, BAY o 9867, was administered to 13 patients orally in dose of 200mg three times a day for 5 to 14 days. Eleven of 13 patients, namely 10 with respiratory ...tract infection and one with urinary tract infection were evaluated clinically. As a result, ten responded good and one was fair. Causative organisms were detected in 4 cases, being eradicated from all. Adverse effects appeared in 2 cases, one anorexia and one eruption. Abnormal laboratory findings showed one eosinophilia, one total-cholesterol elevation and two cases of triglyceride elevation.
A new synthetic antibacterial agent, DL-8280 was administered to a total of 26 patients with variety of infectious diseases, that is, 15 of repiratory, 1 of biliary and 10 of urinary tarct ...infections. Clinically, one case was judged as excellent, 23 were good, one was recrudescent andone was poor. At 12 patients to whom bacteriological effect was evaluable, causative organisms were eradicated in 10, and remained unknown in other two cases. No adverse effects were observed at all. Abnormal laboratory findings were described in 4 cases, but the reciprocal relations were uncertain in every case.

A new cephem class antibiotic, ceftriaxone (CTRX, Ro 13-9904) was administered to 4 patients with some respiratory tract infections at my hospital. A half to one gram of CTRX was used twice daily by ...drip infusion for 4 to 9 days. In two cases of pneumonia, one responded well and the other was judged fair. A case of lung emphysema associated with exacerbation of chronic bronchitis responded fair and in the case of tonsillitis good results were obtained. Neither adverse effects nor abnormalities of laboratory tests were recognized.
