Stipa capensis, the Mediterranean needle-grass, is an annual grass of the genus stipa, in the Poaceae family. It is normal found in the Persian Gulf desert ad semi-desert biome. This plant is ...indigenous to the Fars, Khuzestan, and west of Iran. In traditional medicine, stipa capensis have been used for illness related to the Nerve system problems and gastric discords. The goal of this study is to identify and characterize the phytochemical compound present in this valuable medicinal plant. This is the first report of the presence of phytochemical in stipa capensis. Stipa capensis is commonly known as Bahman in Iran. The leaves of the plant Stipa capensis was collected from Masjede-Soleiman, Khuzestan, Iran in March, 2015.Basic phytochemical screening from the aerial parts of stipa capensis revealed the presence of terpenoids and steroids. The powdered sample was extracted and was further fractionated successively with n-hexane and methanol. The nonpolar fraction was subjected to column. The separated constituents were subjected to LC-MS and GC-MS study. The spectrum of the unknown compounds was compared with the spectrum of the component stored in the NIST (National Institute Standard and Technology) library. The results pertaining to LC-MS analysis led to the identification of number of terpenes from fraction of the hexane extract of Stipa capensis. This is the first report of the screening and isolation of phytochemical in stipa capensis. This study reports the isolation and identification of terpenoid extracted from stipa capensis on fraction 1and 4 isolated that led to isolation of terpenoid compounds (carotenoids, steroids, cardiac glycosides and prenol lipids.)
To introduce an unprecedented technique, instrumentation, and setup for the superficial limbus harvest from the human cadaver donor whole globe.
We studied several superficial limbus harvest ...alternatives, developed a preferred approach with our available instruments, and optimized it on a handful of (seropositive) cadaver donors of whole globes.
The globe was pressurized to about normal intraocular pressure by viscoelastic injection through the optic nerve stump. The globe was then mounted on a dynamic globe fixator that maintained a negative pressure in its stabilizing socket. Exertion of the negative pressure effectively elevated globe intraocular pressure (to over 40 mm Hg) and made the corneoscleral wall tight. The socket was then held tilted to the left side for about 35 to 40 degrees to put the limbal zone horizontally and mildly "chin-up." Next, the microkeratome was put on the uppermost and exposed limbus of the globe and activated, and the socket was rotated clockwise under the microkeratome head and its oscillating blade, allowing an effective 360-degree revolution of the microkeratome head around the limbal belt (for a right-handed operator and a counterclockwise cut).
We consistently succeeded in peeling intact 360-degree strips of the smooth superficial limbus by using blades with varying depths. Our method can be further equipped and optimized and be used by the eye banks and the surgeons for keratolimbal grafting as a more efficient limbal stem cell tissue harvest technique.
Alpha thalassemia is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder with a high prevalence in the Middle East. The severe form of alpha-thalassemia is incompatible with life and can cause significant ...obstetric complications in the mother. Therefore, it is important to determine the genotype in parents who have a chance of having a fetus with one of the severe forms of this disease. A total of 112 samples that were previously analyzed for common alpha thalassemia mutations in Iran were used in this study. A new multiplex PCR including quantitative polymerase chain reaction to amplify the homologous regions of the alpha-globin gene cluster and fluorescent gap PCR was designed to identify -α3.7, -α4.2, --MED deletions. The ROC curve was used to determine the optimum cutoff points. Statistical analysis showed that there is a significant difference between the peak height ratios for different genotypes. The peak corresponding to the 297 bp fragment resulting from the amplification of the allele with MED-I deletion was detected in all the samples with this deletion. Different cutoffs for a range of sensitivities and specificities were determined by the ROC curve. The suggested method can identify three common large deletions in the alpha-globin gene cluster. A study with a larger sample size can provide more accurate information about the sensitivity and specificity of this test.

Despite the interest of people in the subject of the dream interpretation in Iranian culture, little research has been conducted in this field. It is common to try and understand the meaning of a ...dream but the dream elements predicting an attempt at interpretation are not always clear. This study addresses that with a questionnaire administered to 720 participants. Questionnaire responses were analyzed to determine whether attitudes toward dreams could be used to tendency toward dream interpretation. Findings showed that attitudes toward dreams can predict the attempt to interpret dreams by dreamers. As the scores of the dream guidance, dream apprehension, dream significance, and dream entertainment increased, the action of dream interpretation increased as well. The findings indicated that people, seek the meaning and interpretation of their dreams based on their previous experiences and attitudes.
Controlling pelvic excursions is the focus of stabilization exercises such as legs loading tasks in rehabilitation of non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) patients. Progression of these ...exercises is based on the ability to perform tasks with minimal sagittal pelvic excursions. In spite of emphasis on minimizing pelvic motions, no previous studies have investigated kinematic analysis of the pelvic excursions during leg loading exercises in NSCLBP patients.
This study aims to investigate the sagittal pelvis excursion during performing asymmetric leg loading tasks in individuals with and without NSCLBP.
In this cross-sectional study, kinematic data were collected from 15 NSCLBP patients and 15 asymptomatic participants by a motion analysis system during right and left leg loading tasks with 2 levels of difficulty. Pelvis segments were modeled using Visual3D motion analysis software. Maximum pelvic excursion in the sagittal plane was calculated during each task. Mixed model analysis of variances (group, task difficulty level, side) was performed for statistical analysis.
The maximum sagittal pelvic excursion values of all tasks in NSCLBP were smaller than those in the control group; however, no significant main effects and interactions were found between two groups.
These results suggest that NSCLBP patients completed loading tasks without differences in sagittal pelvic excursions as compared to controls. Assessment of NSCLBP patients only based on pelvic angular excursion may not be sufficient for clinical decision making. Furthermore, asymptomatic individuals may need to practice for controlling pelvic excursion during leg loading exercises similar to the CLBP patients.
Despite the interest of laypeople in the subject of dreams in Iranian culture, little research has been done in this field. Dreaming is a mental and personal phenomenon, but sharing dream with others ...is common. This study was administered to 720 participants whose questionnaire responses were analyzed to determine if they told their dreams to others, how much do they share their dreams, whom they told their dreams, what kind of dreams were more told to others, for what purpose and finally, what is the relationship between sharing positive/negative dreams with positive mental health? Findings showed that dream sharing is common and people most shared their dreams with their close persons includes spouse, mother, and friends, respectively. Dreams were mostly shared with the purpose of understanding the meaning of dreams and people sharing both positive and negative dreams with others but sharing positive dreams, both positive and negative dreams and even not sharing dreams are related to more positive mental health than sharing negative dreams. Overall, the findings indicated that dream sharing is common and can be associated by mental health.
Background: Rabies is a fatal and often neglected disease leading to encephalomyelitis following a bite by an infected mammal. According to the necessity of rabies disease in Iran, we present four ...cases of rabies virus infection. Case Presentation: We presented 4 cases of rabies virus infection hospitalized in different hospitals in Iran in 2021-2022. Three patients were male. The youngest patient was 6 years old and the oldest was 81 years old. In all 4 cases, RT-PCR detected the positive virus infection. Three cases received rabies immunoglobulin. All of them received at least one dose of rabies vaccination; but, unfortunately, all patients died. Conclusions: The present case series showed the necessity of early rabies vaccination and also the early organization of stray dogs in the community. Unfortunately, two cases were lost to follow-up. So, the population education and follow-up of suspected rabies patients must be taken seriously by healthcare facilities.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of an intervention program of dream interpretation group sessions using the Ullman method on exploratory, action, and experiential insights in ...healthy women. This is an applied and quasi-experimental study with a pretest/posttest and a control group. The population includes all Persian-speaking women living in Iran, aged 20 to 45 years, with at least a diploma, and able to access and work with the Internet in 2020, who were eligible to participate in the study based on the inclusion criteria. After publishing the invitation on the websites and virtual advertising pages of various cities, 20 people from this population were purposively selected (based on the inclusion criteria) and then randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (10 people in each group). Data collection instruments were the Gains from Dream Interpretation (GDI) questionnaire and the intervention program, including the Ullmann's Appreciating Dreams Protocol (UADP), conducted online in 11 sessions of 90 to 120 minutes. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance in SPSS-24 software. The results showed that the intervention program of group interpretation of dreams according to the Ullmann's method had a significant effect on exploratory and action insight (p < 0.05), but was not significant on experimental insight. Therefore, the Ullmann's Appreciating Dreams Protocol can be used to promote insight in the non-clinical population.
Background: The aim was to determine validity, reliability, and cutoff of full-mini nutritional assessment (MNA) and MNA-short form (SF) also which one was better for the screening of malnutrition in ...the Iranian hospitalized elderly. Methods: In this cross-sectional validation study, 96 hospitalized elderly ≥60 years selected from two hospitals in Tehran. Anthropometric measures (body mass index BMI, mid-arm circumference MAC, calf circumference CC, abdomen, and waist skinfold thickness) and laboratory tests (albumin and hemoglobin levels, and red blood cell count were performed. Nutrition tools (full-MNA and MNA-SF), cognition tool (mini-mental state examination, depression scale (Geriatric Depression Scale15 and activities of daily living (ADL) index (Modified Barthel-ADL) were administered. Results: The full-MNA scores were significantly correlated to measures of MAC, BMI, waist, and CC. The MNS-SF scores were significantly related to measures of MAC, waist, and CC. Serum albumin showed a poor correlation with both tools. At cutoff 24 in full-MNA had a sensitivity 75% and specificity 77.8% and the MNA-SF considered 62.5% sensitivity and 65.3% specificity at cutoff 10.50 to detect well-nourished from malnourished subjects. The internal consistencies of both tools were >90%. In exploratory factor analysis, six components found for full-MNA and two components for MNA-SF. Known group validity of full-MNA was reflected significant differences between geriatric patients with expected higher full-MNA scores and patients with expected lower scores (BMI ≥24 vs. BMI <24 or bed ulcer or assisted food intake). Conclusions: It seems the Persian version of full-MNA is more appropriate in comparison to MNA-SF for screening malnutrition in the Iranian hospitalized elderly patients.
