Research on deliberative democracy that contains a detailed discussion of its relationship to justice in Indigenous territory is limited. Through a case study of the controversy over a solar energy ...project on Kanaluvang tribal land in Taiwan, this article explores how issues of energy justice are constructed in multiple communication and deliberative sites of the governance system and the role of Indigenous activism and deliberation in addressing energy injustice. The research methods used are documentary analysis and in-depth interviews. The study presents a discursive narrative on the interconnected nature of the climate-energy-biodiversity nexus and how Indigenous activism creates deliberative spaces which reinforce Indigenous empowered space and oriented toward social learning and respect for tribal sovereignty. Indigenous activism and deliberation illuminate the emancipatory elements of Indigenous energy justice. It is crucial to connect multiple forms of tribal communication to the wider democratic system in the pursuit of energy justice.
Novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of cancers are needed to improve precision medicine. Circular RNAs act as important regulators in cancers at the transcriptional and posttranscriptional ...levels. The circular RNA circMAN1A2 is highly expressed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma according to our previous RNA sequencing data; however, the expression and functions of circMAN1A2 in cancers are still obscure. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the expression of circMAN1A2 in the sera of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma and other malignant tumors and analyzed its correlations with clinical features and diagnostic values. The expression levels of circMAN1A2 were detected by quantitative real‐time PCR, and the correlations of clinical features with circMAN1A2 expression were analyzed by χ2 tests. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the clinical applications of circMAN1A2. The results showed that circMAN1A2 was upregulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, oral cancer, thyroid cancer, ovarian cancer, and lung cancer, with areas under the curves of 0.911, 0.779, 0.734, 0.694, and 0.645, respectively, indicating the good diagnostic value of circMAN1A2. Overall, our findings suggested that circMAN1A2 could be a serum biomarker for malignant tumors, providing important insights into diagnostic approaches for malignant tumors. Further studies are needed to elucidate the mechanisms of circMAN1A2 in the pathogenesis of cancer.
We verified that circMAN1A2 was significantly upregulated in the sera of patients with NPC, oral cancer, thyroid cancer, ovarian cancer, and lung cancer and had good clinical diagnostic value. We speculate that circMAN1A2 could be a serum biomarker for malignant cancers and provide effective clues for the early diagnosis of malignant cancers.
Aim
Spinal cord injury (SCI) involves multiple pathological processes. Ferroptosis has been shown to play a critical role in the injury process. We wanted to explore whether zinc can inhibit ...ferroptosis, reduce inflammation, and then exert a neuroprotective effect.
Methods
The Alice method was used to establish a spinal cord injury model. The Basso Mouse Scale (BMS), Nissl staining, hematoxylin‐eosin staining, and immunofluorescence analysis were used to investigate the protective effect of zinc on neurons on spinal cord neurons and the recovery of motor function. The regulation of the nuclear factor E2/heme oxygenase‐1 (NRF2/HO‐1) pathway was assessed, the levels of essential ferroptosis proteins were measured, and the changes in mitochondria were confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and 5,5′,6,6′‐tetrachloro‐1,1′,3,3′‐tetraethyl‐imidacarbocyanine iodide (JC‐1) staining. In vitro experiments using VSC4.1 (spinal cord anterior horn motor neuroma cell line), 4‐hydroxynonenal (4HNE), reactive oxygen species (ROS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), lipid peroxides, and finally the levels of inflammatory factors were detected to assess the effect of zinc.
Results
Zinc reversed behavioral and structural changes after SCI. Zinc increased the expression of NRF2/HO‐1, thereby increasing the content of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), SOD, and GHS and reducing the levels of lipid peroxides, MDA, and ROS. Zinc also rescued injured mitochondria and effectively reduced spinal cord injury and the levels of inflammatory factors, and the NRF2 inhibitor Brusatol reversed the effects of zinc.
Conclusion
Zinc promoted the degradation of oxidative stress products and lipid peroxides through the NRF2/HO‐1 and GPX4 signaling pathways to inhibit ferroptosis in neurons.

Recent studies have shown that on one hand, tumors need to obtain a sufficient energy supply, and on the other hand they must evade the body's immune surveillance. Because of their metabolic ...reprogramming characteristics, tumors can modify the physicochemical properties of the microenvironment, which in turn affects the biological characteristics of the cells infiltrating them. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are a subset of T cells that regulate immune responses in the body. They exist in large quantities in the tumor microenvironment and exert immunosuppressive effects. The main effect of tumor microenvironment on Tregs is to promote their differentiation, proliferation, secretion of immunosuppressive factors, and chemotactic recruitment to play a role in immunosuppression in tumor tissues. This review focuses on cell metabolism reprogramming and the most significant features of the tumor microenvironment relative to the functional effects on Tregs, highlighting our understanding of the mechanisms of tumor immune evasion and providing new directions for tumor immunotherapy.

(1) Background: To review the associated factors of sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults. (2) Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and four Chinese electronic databases were searched for ...observational studies that reported the associated factors of sarcopenia from inception to August 2021. Two researchers independently selected the literature, evaluated their quality, and extracted relevant data. The pooled odds ratio (OR) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated for each associated factors of sarcopenia using random-effects/fixed-effects models. Publication bias was assessed using funnel plot and the Eggers test. We performed statistical analysis using Stata 15.0 software. (3) Results: A total of 68 studies comprising 98,502 cases were included. Sociodemographic associated factors of sarcopenia among community-dwelling older adults included age (OR = 1.12, 95% CI: 1.10-1.13), marital status (singled, divorced, or widowed) (OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.08-2.28), disability for activities of daily living (ADL) (OR = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.15-1.92), and underweight (OR = 3.78, 95% CI: 2.55-5.60). Behavioral associated factors included smoking (OR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.10-1.21), physical inactivity (OR = 1.73, 95% CI: 1.48-2.01), malnutrition/malnutrition risk (OR = 2.99, 95% CI: 2.40-3.72), long (OR = 2.30, 95% CI: 1.37-3.86) and short (OR = 3.32, 95% CI: 1.86-5.93) sleeping time, and living alone (OR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.00-2.40). Disease-related associated factors included diabetes (OR = 1.40, 95% CI: 1.18-1.66), cognitive impairment (OR = 1.62, 95% CI: 1.05-2.51), heart diseases (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.00-1.30), respiratory diseases (OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.09-1.36), osteopenia/osteoporosis (OR = 2.73, 95% CI: 1.63-4.57), osteoarthritis (OR = 1.33, 95% CI: 1.23-1.44), depression (OR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.17-1.83), falls (OR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.14-1.44), anorexia (OR = 1.50, 95% CI: 1.14-1.96), and anemia (OR = 1.39, 95% CI: 1.06-1.82). However, it remained unknown whether gender (female: OR = 1.10, 95% CI: 0.80-1.51; male: OR = 1.50, 95% CI: 0.96-2.34), overweight/obesity (OR = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.17-0.44), drinking (OR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.84-1.01), hypertension (OR = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.84-1.14), hyperlipidemia (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 0.89-1.47), stroke (OR = 1.70, 95% CI: 0.69-4.17), cancer (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.85-0.92), pain (OR = 1.08, 95% CI: 0.98-1.20), liver disease (OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.85-0.91), and kidney disease (OR = 2.52, 95% CI: 0.19-33.30) were associated with sarcopenia. (4) Conclusions: There are many sociodemographic, behavioral, and disease-related associated factors of sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults. Our view provides evidence for the early identification of high-risk individuals and the development of relevant interventions to prevent sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults.
Sarcopenic obesity (SO), which refers to the coexistence of sarcopenia and obesity. It can lead to physical disability, morbidity, and even mortality. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed ...to estimate the global prevalence of SO in older adults.
We searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for studies reporting the prevalence of SO from inception to December 2020. Two researchers independently screened the literature, evaluated study quality, and extracted data. A random-effects model was used to pool the estimates for the prevalence of SO. Subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis, and meta-regression analysis were conducted. Publication bias was assessed using a funnel plot and the Egger test. All statistical analyses were performed using Stata 15.0 software.
This review included 50 studies, we found that the global prevalence of SO in older adults was 11%. Subgroup analyses showed that the prevalence of SO was higher among studies using diagnostic criteria of muscle mass alone (15%) to diagnose sarcopenia, using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (15%) to assess muscle mass, and those focused on age ≥ 75 years old (23%), hospitalized (16%), South Americans (21%) and North Americans (19%). There were no significant differences in the prevalence of SO among studies using body fat percentage (10%), body mass index (13%), waist circumference (16%) to diagnose obesity and in female (14%), male (10%) patients. Sensitivity analysis showed that none of the studies affected the overall pooled results. Meta-regression analysis found that publication year, geographical region, study setting, and the diagnostic criteria of sarcopenia were sources of heterogeneity.
This meta-analysis indicated SO affects more than one in ten older adults globally. Therefore, we should attach importance to the screening and early diagnosis of SO in older adults, then selecting appropriate interventions to reduce the occurrence of it and various adverse outcomes in this demographic.
Particulate nitrate (NO3-) not only influences regional climates but also contributes to the acidification of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. In 2016 and 2017, four intensive online measurements ...of water-soluble ions in PM2.5 were conducted in Nanjing City in order to investigate the potential formation mechanisms of particulate nitrate. During the sampling periods, NO3- was the predominant species, accounting approximately for 35 % of the total water-soluble inorganic ions, followed by SO42- (33 %) and NH4+ (24 %). Significant enhancements of nitrate aerosols in terms of both absolute concentrations and relative abundances suggested that NO3- was a major contributing species to high-PM2.5 events (hourly PM2.5≥150 µg m-3). High NO3- concentrations mainly occurred underNH4+-rich conditions, implying that the formation of nitrate aerosols in Nanjing involved NH3. During the high-PM2.5 events, the nitrogen conversion ratios (Fn) were positively correlated with the aerosol liquid water content (ALWC; R>0.72 and p<0.05). Meanwhile, increasing NO3- concentrations regularly coincided with increasing ALWC and decreasing Ox (Ox=O3+NO2). These results suggested that the heterogeneous reaction was probably a major mechanism of nitrate formation during the high-PM2.5 events. Moreover, the average production rate of NO3- by heterogeneous processes was estimated to be 12.6 % h-1 (4.1 µg m-3 h-1), which was much higher than that (2.5 % h-1; 0.8 µg m-3 h-1) of gas-phase reactions. This can also explain the abrupt increases in nitrate concentrations during the high-PM2.5 events. Utilizing the ISORROPIA II model, we found that nitrate aerosol formation in Nanjing during the high-PM2.5 events was HNO3 limited. This indicated that control of NOx emissions will be able to efficiently reduce airborne particulate nitrate concentrations and improve the air quality in this industrial city.
There is limited research on Indigenous deliberation on and participation in renewable energy development and its relationship to the pursuit of energy justice. The article explores the Thao tribe's ...resistance to energy injustice in Taiwan and the importance of Indigenous deliberation and participation in the energy transition within their traditional territory and in ensuring Indigenous energy justice. It analyzes how the Thao tribe created spaces in which deliberation could occur and actively engaged in deliberation and communication to transmit their narratives. Moreover, through collaboration with renewable nongovernmental organisations and by initiating community-led solar energy projects, the Thao people have taken steps toward achieving energy autonomy. This study demonstrates the functions of interconnectedness and interplay of communication and dialogues across sites, institutions, and practices in reclaiming energy justice, and that the Thao people's energy injustice problems are intertwined with their efforts to reclaim their traditional lands. The findings demonstrate the complexities of energy justice and the necessity for ongoing deliberation and collaboration within tribespeople and among actors in promoting the energy transition and seeking energy justice.

Forward error correction coding is the most common way of channel coding and the key point of error correction coding. Therefore, the recognition of which coding type is an important issue in ...non-cooperative communication. At present, the recognition of FEC codes is mainly concentrated in the field of semi-blind identification with known types of codes. However, the receiver cannot know the types of channel coding previously in non-cooperative systems such as cognitive radio and remote sensing of communication. Therefore, it is important to recognize the error-correcting encoding type with no prior information. In the paper, we come up with a neoteric method to identify the types of FEC codes based on Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) under the condition of non-cooperative communication. The algorithm classifies the input data into Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes, Low-density Parity-check (LDPC) codes, Turbo codes and convolutional codes. So as to train the RNN model with better performance, the weight initialization method is optimized and the network performance is improved. The experimental result indicates that the average recognition rate of this model is 99% when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) ranges from 0 dB to 10 dB, which is in line with the requirements of engineering practice under the condition of non-cooperative communication. Moreover, the comparison of different parameters and models show the effectiveness and practicability of the algorithm proposed.
High particulate matter (PM) pollution frequently occurs in winter over northern China , resulting in threats to human health. To date, there are limited studies to link source apportionments and ...health risk assessments in the different size-resolved PM samples during high PM events. In this study, size-segregated PM samples were collected in Linfen, a typical coal-burning city, in northern China during a wintertime haze pollution. In addition to water-soluble ions and carbon contents, metallic elements in the different size-segregated PM samples were also determined for health risk assessments by inhalation of PM. During the sampling period, the average concentration of PM10 was 274 ± 57 μg m−3 with a major fraction (73%) of organic material and secondary-related aerosols, and an insignificant portion of trace elements (TEs, ~ 3%). The size distribution showed that As and Se, markers of coal combustion, exhibited a mono-modal distribution with a major peak at 0.4–0.7 μm and the others mostly possessed mono−/bi-modal patterns with a major peak at 3.3–5.8 μm. The cancer risk (CR) resulted from PM10 metals by inhalation was estimated to be 2.91 × 10−5 for children and 7.75 × 10−5 for adults while non-cancer risk (NCR) was 2.10 for children and 0.70 for adults. Chromium (Cr) was the dominant species (~89%) of cancer risk in PM10. Road dust was a major fraction (~65%) to total metals in coarse PM (dp > 3.3 μm) whereas coal combustion was a dominant source (~55%) in submicron (dp < 1.1 μm) PM metals. However, traffic emissions (40%) and coal combustion (36%) were the dominant sources of CR since both emissions contributed major fractions (74%) to Cr, especially in submicron PM which exhibited high deposition efficiency of TEs into respiratory tracts, resulting in high CR in Linfen City.
