Copper nanoparticles were synthesized by thermal decomposition using copper chloride, sodium oleate, and phenyl ether as solvent agents. The formation of nanoparticles was evidenced by the X-ray ...diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The peaks in the XRD pattern correspond to the standard values of the face centered cubic (fcc) structure of metallic copper and no peaks of other impurity crystalline phases were detected. TEM analysis showed spherical nanoparticles with sizes in the range of 4 to 18 nm. The antibacterial properties of copper nanoparticles were evaluated in vitro against strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibacterial activity of copper nanoparticles synthesized by thermal decomposition showed significant inhibitory effect against these highly multidrug-resistant bacterial strains.
Two colorimetric nanostructured sensor phases (Color-NSPs) for the determination of low concentrations of acid vapors in the atmosphere of paper storage rooms have been designed and characterized. ...The acid vapor determination is based on the color change that occurs in polyaniline (PANI) in the presence of acids when it goes from its emeraldine base form (blue) to its emeraldine salt form (green). To synthesize the Color-NSPs, two methods have been used, a one-step method performed by grafting polyaniline onto a cellulose membrane (Cellu-PANI) and a two-step method in which in the first step, polyaniline is grafted onto the surface of polymeric nanoparticles (NPs-PANI), and in a second step, NPs-PANI are immobilized into the pores of a nylon membrane (Nylon-NPs PANI). The response of the sensors versus acid vapor was measured by color coordinates with a photographic camera. A linear response range from 1 ppmv to 7 ppmv was found for both sensors, and the detection limits were 0.95 ppmv (1.2 % RSD) and 0.40 ppmv (0.8 % RSD) for Cellu-PANI and Nylon-NPs PANI, respectively. In addition, both sensors showed complete reversibility and a short exposition time (5 min). The potential applicability of the Color-NSPs in the control of the exposure of paper heritage collections to outdoor- and indoor-generated gaseous pollutants was demonstrated by determining acid vapors in museums. The study design is a retrospective cohort study with nation-wide data of suspected and confirmed cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV-2) infection and their registered contacts.
We analyzed confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases and their chains of contact using a nation-wide registry from March 28, 2020 to January 13, 2021. To estimate the effect of CT on fatality, we adjusted a multilevel negative binomial model using the number of deaths and the number of people within a chain of contacts as the outcome variable and offset variable, respectively. Sensitivity analysis was conducted using different cutoff values of contacts traced and a logistic model for the effect of CT on death at an individual level.
We analyzed 1.4 million cases, 542,936 chains of contact, and 46,087 deaths. Only, 5.8% of total cases and contacts were included in a chain of a case and five or more contacts. We found that tracing of at least five contacts per case reduces fatality by 48% (95% confidence interval: 45–51), and, at the current levels of tracing in Colombia, it prevents 1.8% of deaths. Results obtained from the sensitivity analysis were consistent with the reduction of fatality at an individual level and higher protective effect with the higher number of contacts traced.
In Colombia, tracing of at least five contacts per case reduces fatality from COVID-19. The coverage and intensity of tracing needs to be increased as a strategy to mitigate fatality in Colombia.
The LPA1 receptor, one of the six characterized G protein-coupled receptors (LPA1–6) through which lysophosphatidic acid acts, is likely involved in promoting normal emotional behaviours. Current ...data suggest that the LPA-LPA1-receptor pathway may be involved in mediating the negative consequences of stress on hippocampal function. However, to date, there is no available information regarding the mechanisms whereby the LPA1 receptor mediates this adaptation. To gain further insight into how the LPA-LPA1 pathway may prevent the negative consequences of chronic stress, we assessed the effects of the continuous delivery of LPA on depressive-like behaviours induced by a chronic restraint stress protocol. Because a proper excitatory/inhibitory balance seems to be key for controlling the stress response system, the gene expression of molecular markers of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission was also determined. In addition, the hippocampal expression of mineralocorticoid receptor genes and glucocorticoid receptor genes and proteins as well as plasma corticosterone levels were determined. Contrary to our expectations, the continuous delivery of LPA in chronically stressed animals potentiated rather than inhibited some (e.g., anhedonia, reduced latency to the first immobility period), though not all, behavioural effects of stress. Furthermore, this treatment led to an alteration in the genes coding for proteins involved in the excitatory/inhibitory balance in the ventral hippocampus and to changes in corticosterone levels. In conclusion, the results of this study reinforce the assumption that LPA is involved in emotional regulation, mainly through the LPA1 receptor, and regulates the effects of stress on hippocampal gene expression and hippocampus-dependent behaviour.

For Hilfer derivatives of the product of two functions, we present equations and inequalities, generalizing well‐known results for Caputo and Riemann‐Liouville derivatives. Using the Laplace ...transformation, we introduce a generalized distributed Mittag‐Leffler‐Hilfer stability and show two results for like‐Lyapunov stability. We also extend equations and inequalities for the product of two functions of Hilfer derivatives of distributed order. Finally, we give some consequences and examples that illustrate the theory.
In this work, we focus on (CH3)2NH2PbI3, a member of the AmineHPbI3 series of hybrid organic–inorganic compounds, reporting a very easy mechanosynthesis route for its preparation at room ...temperature. We report that this (CH3)2NH2PbI3 compound with 2H-perovskite structure experiences a first-order transition at ≈250 K from hexagonal symmetry P63/mmc (HT phase) to monoclinic symmetry P21/c (LT phase), which involves two cooperative processes: an off-center shift of the Pb2+ cations and an order–disorder process of the N atoms of the DMA cations. Very interestingly, this compound shows a dielectric anomaly associated with the structural phase transition. Additionally, this compound displays very large values of the dielectric constant at room temperature because of the appearance of a certain conductivity and the activation of extrinsic contributions, as demonstrated by impedance spectroscopy. The large optical band gap displayed by this material (E g = 2.59 eV) rules out the possibility that the observed conductivity can be electronic and points to ionic conductivity, as confirmed by density functional theory calculations that indicate that the lowest activation energy of 0.68 eV corresponds to the iodine anions, and suggests the most favorable diffusion paths for these anions. The obtained results thus indicate that (CH3)2NH2PbI3 is an electronic insulator and an ionic conductor, where the electronic conductivity is disfavored because of the low dimensionality of the (CH3)2NH2PbI3 structure.
We have studied the radial structure of the stellar mass surface density (μ∗) and stellar population age as a function of the total stellar mass and morphology for a sample of 107 galaxies from the ...CALIFA survey. We applied the fossil record method based on spectral synthesis techniques to recover the star formation history (SFH), resolved in space and time, in spheroidal and disk dominated galaxies with masses from 109 to 1012 M⊙. We derived the half-mass radius, and we found that galaxies are on average 15% more compact in mass than in light. The ratio of half-mass radius to half-light radius (HLR) shows a dual dependence with galaxy stellar mass; it decreases with increasing mass for disk galaxies, but is almost constant in spheroidal galaxies. In terms of integrated versus spatially resolved properties, we find that the galaxy-averaged stellar population age, stellar extinction, and μ∗ are well represented by their values at 1 HLR. Negative radial gradients of the stellar population ages are present in most of the galaxies, supporting an inside-out formation. The larger inner (≤1 HLR) age gradients occur in the most massive (1011 M⊙) disk galaxies that have the most prominent bulges; shallower age gradients are obtained in spheroids of similar mass. Disk and spheroidal galaxies show negative μ∗ gradients that steepen with stellar mass. In spheroidal galaxies, μ∗ saturates at a critical value (~7 × 102 M⊙/pc2 at 1 HLR) that is independent of the galaxy mass. Thus, all the massive spheroidal galaxies have similar local μ∗ at the same distance (in HLR units) from the nucleus. The SFH of the regions beyond 1 HLR are well correlated with their local μ∗, and follow the same relation as the galaxy-averaged age and μ∗; this suggests that local stellar mass surface density preserves the SFH of disks. The SFH of bulges are, however, more fundamentally related to the total stellar mass, since the radial structure of the stellar age changes with galaxy mass even though all the spheroid dominated galaxies have similar radial structure in μ∗. Thus, galaxy mass is a more fundamental property in spheroidal systems, while the local stellar mass surface density is more important in disks.
