Our main objective was to compare liver transplant (LT) results between donation after circulatory death (DCD) and donation after brainstem death (DBD) in our hospital and to analyze, within the DCD ...group, the influence of age on the results obtained with DCD donors aged >70 years and up to 80 years. All DCD‐LTs performed were analyzed prospectively. The results of the DCD group were compared with those of a control group who received a DBD‐LT immediately after each DCD‐LT. Later, the results obtained within the DCD group were analyzed according to the age of the donors, considering 2 subgroups with a cut‐off point at 70 years. Survival results for LT with DCD and super rapid recovery were not inferior to those obtained in a similar group of patients transplanted with DBD livers. However, the cost of DCD was a higher rate of biliary complications, including ischemic cholangiopathy. Donor age was not a negative factor.

Trophic niche breadth plays a key role in biogeographic distribution patterns. Theory posits that generalist strategies are favoured in a more heterogeneous set of environments across a ...spatio-temporal gradient of resources predictability, conferring individuals and species a greater capacity for colonising new habitats and thus expanding their distribution area. Using the family Falconidae (Aves, Falconiformes) as a model study, we tested the prediction that those species with a wider diet spectrum will have larger geographic range sizes and inhabit more biomes. We assessed the relationships between trophic breadth (diet richness and diversity) at different taxonomic resolutions of the prey (class and order), range size and biomic specialisation index (BSI; number of biomes inhabited) for the different species. Despite different diet breadth indexes and taxonomic resolutions defined differently the trophic niche of the clade and species, our findings revealed that trophic breadth was not a good predictor for range size but was for total environmental heterogeneity, with more diet-generalist species occupying a higher number of biomes. Diet breadth at the order taxonomic level showed a higher capacity of predicting BSI than at class level, and can be an important ecological trait explaining biogeographic patterns of the species.
Los tumores del estroma gastrointestinal (GIST) suponen el 1-2% de los tumores digestivos, siendo su localización más frecuente el estómago (55-60%) y el intestino delgado (30%). Los avances más ...importantes sucedidos en los últimos años se centran en cuatro áreas: biología molecular, abordaje quirúrgico laparoscópico, manejo técnico del GIST en localizaciones inusuales y tratamiento e integración de la cirugía en el manejo del GIST avanzado. Los avances en el conocimiento de la biología molecular del GIST han dado lugar a la progresiva identificación de nueva mutaciones oncogénicas que hacen del concepto wild type obsoleto. Estos avances han permitido el desarrollo de dos nuevos fármacos, avapritinib y ripretinib, lo que permite el tratamiento de pacientes con mutaciones resistentes a las tres líneas terapéuticas clásicas. El tratamiento quirúrgico del GIST se rige por unos principios técnicos bien establecidos que el abordaje laparoscópico debe cumplir, abordaje que queda limitado por dos factores clave: localización y tamaño. El GIST de localización infrecuente (esófago, duodeno o recto, o extradigestivo) supone un reto terapéutico. Estos pacientes deben ser manejados en un contexto multidisciplinario. La cirugía queda integrada en el manejo del GIST avanzado, considerándose como adyuvante a los inhibidores de la tirosina cinasa.
We developed new quantitative palaeoclimatic inference models based on the body-size structure of mammal faunas from the Old World tropics and applied them to the Somosaguas fossil site (middle ...Miocene, central Iberian Peninsula). Twenty-six mammal species have been described at this site, including proboscideans, ungulates, carnivores, insectivores, lagomorphs and rodents. Our analyses were based on multivariate and bivariate regression models correlating climatic data and body-size structure of 63 modern mammal assemblages from Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian subcontinent. The results showed an average temperature of the coldest month higher than 26°C for the Somosaguas fossil site, a mean annual thermal amplitude around 10°C, a drought length of 10 months, and an annual total precipitation greater than 200 mm per year, which are climate conditions typical of an ecotonal zone between the savanna and desert biomes. These results are congruent with the aridity peaks described over the middle Aragonian of Spain and particularly in the local biozone E, which includes Somosaguas. The aridity increase detected in this biozone is associated with the Middle Miocene Global Cooling Event. The environment of Somosaguas around 14 Ma was similar to the current environment in the Sahel region of North Africa, the Horn of Africa, the boundary area between the Kalahari and the Namib in Southern Africa, south-central Arabia, or eastern Pakistan and northwestern India. The distribution of modern vegetation in these regions follows a complex mosaic of plant communities, dominated by scattered xerophilous shrublands, semidesert grasslands, and vegetation linked to seasonal watercourses and ponds.

The Galileo high accuracy service (HAS) is a new capability of the European global navigation satellite system, currently providing satellite orbit and clock corrections and dispersive effects such ...as satellite instrumental biases for code and phase. In its full capability, Galileo HAS will also correct the ionospheric delay on a continental scale (initially over Europe). We analyze a real-time ionospheric correction system based on the fast precise point positioning (F-PPP), and its potential application to the Galileo HAS. The F-PPP ionospheric model is assessed through a 281-day campaign, confirming previously reported results, where the proof of concept was introduced. We introduce a novel real-time test that directly links the instantaneous position error with the error of the ionospheric corrections, a key point for a HAS. The test involved 15 GNSS receivers in Europe acting as user receivers at various latitudes, with distances to the nearest reference receivers ranging from tens to four hundred kilometers. In the position domain, the test results show that the 95th percentile of the instantaneous position error depends on the user-receiver distance, as expected, ranging in the horizontal and vertical components from 10 to 30 cm and from 20 to 50 cm, respectively. These figures not only meet Galileo HAS requirements but outperform them by achieving instantaneous positioning. Additionally, it is shown that formal errors of the ionospheric corrections, which are also transmitted, are typically at the decimeter level (1 sigma), protecting users against erroneous position by weighting its measurements in the navigation filter.
The Galileo High Accuracy Service (HAS) is a new capability of the European Global Navigation Satellite System that is currently under development. The Galileo HAS will start providing satellite ...orbit and clock corrections (i.e. non-dispersive effects) and soon it will also correct dispersive effects such as inter-frequency biases and, in its full capability, ionospheric delay. We analyse here an ionospheric correction system based on the fast precise point positioning (Fast-PPP) and its potential application to the Galileo HAS. The aim of this contribution is to present some recent upgrades to the Fast-PPP model, with the emphasis on the model geometry and the data used. The results show the benefits of integer ambiguity resolution to obtain unambiguous carrier phase measurements as input to compute the Fast-PPP model. Seven permanent stations are used to assess the errors of the Fast-PPP ionospheric corrections, with baseline distances ranging from 100 to 1000 km from the reference receivers used to compute the Fast-PPP corrections. The 99% of the GPS and Galileo errors in well-sounded areas and in mid-latitude stations are below one total electron content unit. In addition, large errors are bounded by the error prediction of the Fast-PPP model, in the form of the variance of the estimation of the ionospheric corrections. Therefore, we conclude that Fast-PPP is able to provide ionospheric corrections with the required ionospheric accuracy, and realistic confidence bounds, for the Galileo HAS.
Abstract TDP-43 proteinopathies are a heterogeneous group of neurodegenerative disorders that share the presence of aberrant, misfolded and mislocalized deposits of the protein TDP-43, as in the case ...of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and some, but not all, pathological variants of frontotemporal dementia. In recent years, many other diseases have been reported to have primary or secondary TDP-43 proteinopathy, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease or the recently described limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy, highlighting the need for new and accurate methods for the early detection of TDP-43 proteinopathy to help on the stratification of patients with overlapping clinical diagnosis. Currently, TDP-43 proteinopathy remains a post-mortem pathologic diagnosis. Although the main aim is to determine the pathologic TDP-43 proteinopathy in the central nervous system (CNS), the ubiquitous expression of TDP-43 in biofluids and cells outside the CNS facilitates the use of other accessible target tissues that might reflect the potential TDP-43 alterations in the brain. In this review, we describe the main developments in the early detection of TDP-43 proteinopathies, and their potential implications on diagnosis and future treatments.

The synthesis of 19 compounds derived from l-serine and analogs of p-substituted cinnamic acid is reported. Oxazolines 9 and oxazoles 10 have high antitubercular activity with Minimum ...Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of 0.7812–25.0 µg/mL (3.21–100.3 µM), against two strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis sensitive to first-line drugs Isoniazid (INH), Rifampicin (RIF), Ethambutol (EMB), Pyrazinamide (PZE) (H37Rv) and a clinical isolate resistant to INH, RIF and EMB (G122). The cytotoxic evaluation shows that oxazoles have low activity, finding viability>96% against the VERO cell line. The results show these compounds could be considered as future alternatives for antitubercular treatment.
