Personal health records offer a way to manage health data while lessening healthcare costs, improving patient data quality, and fostering healthcare efficiency, but privacy and security issues are ...particularly important considerations for PHR designers.
Highlights • Registering the estimated birth date or calculating it by entering the LMP (Last menstrual period) is the only functionality used in all the mPHRs for pregnancy monitoring analyzed. • ...Some applications focus on offering information to the user and others focus on monitoring the information provided by the user. • The most frequently ignored feature in the mPHRs for pregnancy monitoring studied is the geolocation of nearby medical services. • Security and privacy should be considered by developers. Only 9% of the studied applications include at least two methods of data protection, and 12% use a password method of protection. • The possibility to connect sensors to mPHRs for pregnancy monitoring should be taken into consideration as it is crucial to acquire accurate and correct records values.

This article gives a short overview of the main characteristics of mutation tools. If a test suite finds all the artificial errors inserted in the mutants and finds no fault in the original, it's ...likely that the program under test is free of them. Obviously, the validity of this affirmation depends on the nature of the artificial fault: some of them are better than others. This testing technique has been used in the research arena to check the effectiveness of new proposed testing techniques, but it hasn't been used until recently in industry due to its costs and the lack of knowledge and industrial tools.
Computer-aided detection systems aim at the automatic detection of diseases using different medical imaging modalities. In this paper, a novel approach to detecting normality/pathology in digital ...chest radiographs is proposed. The problem tackled is complicated since it is not focused on particular diseases but anything that differs from what is considered as normality. First, the areas of interest of the chest are found using template matching on the images. Then, a texture descriptor called local binary patterns (LBP) is computed for those areas. After that, LBP histograms are applied in a classifier algorithm, which produces the final normality/pathology decision. Our experimental results show the feasibility of the proposal, with success rates above 87% in the best cases. Moreover, our technique is able to locate the possible areas of pathology in nonnormal radiographs. Strengths and limitations of the proposed approach are described in the Conclusions.
•An analysis of functionalities and technical features of 48 postnatal care mobile applications is provided.•Apps for monitoring newborn activities is the focus area mostly predominant among ...postnatal care apps.•The most commonly offered functionalities in the postnatal care apps assessed are inputting newborn's birthday followed by tracking newborn's vital measurements.•The technical features evaluated were related to privacy, security, usability and internationalization.•Informal writing style and intuitive navigation patterns were the two prevalent features in the postnatal care apps considered.•Most of the postnatal care apps assessed overlook mother's health tracking during the postpartum period.
Providing a continuum of care from antenatal, childbirth and postnatal period results in reduced maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Timely, high quality postnatal care is crucial for maximizing maternal and newborn health. In this vein, the use of postnatal mobile applications constitutes a promising strategy.
A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) protocol was adopted to perform the selection, data extraction and functional evaluation of the available postnatal apps on iOS and Android platforms. The analysis of the functionalities and technical features of the apps selected was performed according to a 37-items assessment questionnaire developed on the basis of the scientific literature of postnatal care and a preliminary analysis of available postnatal apps
A total of 48 postnatal apps were retrieved from the app repositories of the iOS and Android platforms. The results of the functional content analysis show that the postnatal apps selected relatively achieved low scores owing to the complexity and the ramification of the postnatal care.
The present study helps in identifying areas related to the postnatal care that require further endeavors to be properly addressed. It also provides directions for developers to leverage the advancement and innovation on mobile technology to build complete and well-suited postnatal apps
The aim of this paper is to employ the guidelines of Android, iOS, Blackberry and Windows Phone to analyze the usability compliance of free blood donation (BD) apps. An analysis process based on a ...systematic review protocol is used to select free BD apps. An assessment is conducted using a questionnaire composed of 13 questions concerning the compliance of free BD apps with Android, Blackberry, iOS and Windows Phone usability guidelines. A total of 133 free BD apps have been selected from the 188 BD apps identified. Around 63 % of the free BD apps selected have a good compliance with mobile OS usability recommendations. Around 72 % of Android, 57 % of Windows Phone, 33 % of iOS and 33 % of Blackberry BD apps have a high usability score. The aspect of BD app behavior should be improved along with some style components: the use of pictures to explain ideas and the adaptation of the app to both horizontal and vertical orientations. Structure patterns should also be used to improve the structure aspect of a BD app. Usability is a quality aspect that should be improved in current BD apps. Our study provides smartphone users with a list of usable free BD apps and BD app developers with recommendations.
BACKGROUND:The objetive was investigate the long-term impact of low level viremia (LLV) on all-cause mortality, AIDS and non-AIDS events (NAEs), and virological failure in patients receiving ART.
...METHODS:We analyzed ART-naïve adults from the cohort of the Spanish AIDS Research Network (CoRIS) who initiated ART from 2004 to 2015 and achieved plasma viral load (VL) below 50 copies/ml. LLV50-199 was defined as two consecutive VL between 50 and 199 copies/ml, and LLV200-499 as two consecutive VL between 50 and 499 copies/ml with at least one between 200 and 499 copies/ml. Multivariable Cox models were used to estimate the association of LLV with AIDS events/death, NAEs and virological failure.
RESULTS:Of 5986 patients included, 237 (4.0%) experienced LLV50–199 and 168 (2.8%) developed LLV200–499. One hundred seventy-one patients died or developed an AIDS event, 245 had any serious NAE and 280 had virological failure. LLV200-499 was strongly associated with a higher risk of both AIDS events/death adjusted hazard ratio (aHR), 2.89; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.41 – 5.92 and virological failure (aHR, 3.25; 95% CI, 1.77 – 5.99), while no differences were observed between LLV50-199 and no LLV neither for AIDS events/death (aHR, 1.84; 95% CI, 0.89 – 3.82) nor virological failure (aHR, 1.42; 95% CI, 0.78 – 2.58). LLV was not associated with the occurrence of any serious-NAE.
CONCLUSION:In this cohort, LLV200–499 was strongly associated with AIDS events/death and virological failure, but not with any serious NAE. Therefore, vigorous treatment should be implemented in patients with more than 200 copies/ml.
•A gamification strategy allows students to learn Nielsen's 10 heuristic usability rules.•Gamification-based training improves students’ usability knowledge in the short term.•Gamification positively ...impacts on students' motivation in learning usability.
This paper presents the results of an educational experiment conducted to determine whether an automated, card-based gamification strategy has an impact on the learning of Jakob Nielsen's 10 heuristic usability rules. The participants in the experiment were 55 students enrolled on a human-computer interaction course. According to the results of the experiment and the hypothesis tests performed to compare both traditional and gamified approaches, there were no significant differences (t (53) = 0.66, p = 0.52), although the scores attained by the students who used the gamification strategy were slightly better when evaluated one week later (M = 6.29 and M = 6.57 out of 10, respectively). Moreover, the students’ perceptions reflect that the proposed tool is easy to use (MD = 4.00 out of 5) and useful as regards learning (MD = 4.00 out of 5). Further research is needed to determine whether incorporating other gamification elements, such as rankings, difficulty levels, and game modes, would have a positive impact on student motivation, engagement and performance.
