Purpose
This study aims to investigate the influence of supply chain (SC) complexity on the effectiveness of resilience capabilities in mitigating SC disruptions. Hypotheses about direct and ...moderating influences of complexity on resilience capabilities and performance change after disruption are built and quantitatively tested.
Design/methodology/approach
Partial least square-based structural equation modelling with formative constructs was used as an overall approach. Secondary data on SC disruptions, related performance change and resilience practices were collected from multiple sources through a predefined procedure. The collected data were systematically encoded prior to performing statistical analysis.
Findings
SC structural complexity is found to have a significant positive relation with performance improvement after disruption, along with resilience capability; it also positively moderates the resilience–performance link.
Research limitations/implications
The SC complexity factors the authors considered in this study do not include dynamic forms because of the nature of data collected. Future research may attempt to include and test whether the results of this study also hold when additional complexity parameters are taken into account.
Practical implications
Managers are often trying to reduce SC complexity. This study implies that some level of complexity is beneficial also for a better recovery of operational performance affected because of disruption. Resilience capabilities become more effective when leveraged on complexity in the SC.
Originality/value
This is the first study to empirically investigate the influence of SC complexity on the resilience–performance link.
Complexity is regarded a major impediment to Supply Chain (SC) performance. However, very few studies aid SC managers adopt adequate practices in response to structural and dynamic complexity. This ...study offers a comprehensive review of the practices that four manufacturing companies employ in their SC function to manage the structural and dynamic complexity of their product portfolio, internal SC, and supplier and customer bases. Moreover, leveraging the results of the inductive in-depth case studies, a classification of complexity management practices consisting of four clusters is advanced: variety reducing, confinement and decoupling, coordination and collaboration and decision support and knowledge generation. Each cluster's distinctive logic and limitations are discussed and propositions on their managerial scope are introduced, therefore providing managers with relevant insights to design effective complexity management approaches in their organisations.
Research suggests that transgender and non-binary (TGNB) individuals experience lower levels of psychological well-being than the general population. Although practice recommendations and guidelines ...exist, there is a paucity of studies evaluating the effects of psychological interventions on this group. This systematic review aimed to synthesize and analyze existing empirical affirmative psychological interventions for TGNB individuals to assess their efficacy. Eight databases (PubMed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Scopus, LILACS, Cochrane, ProQuest, Google Scholar) were searched from January 2010 to June 2022 to identify relevant studies. Included studies needed to be randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental, or uncontrolled pre-post. Twenty-two articles were included, of which eight had TGNB participants only, two had mixed samples with separated outcome data for TGNB participants, and 12 had mixed samples with no disaggregated data. Experimental designs, participant samples, assessed variables, and type of interventions varied widely across studies, thus preventing comparisons. Overall results suggest improvements in psychological distress, depression, anxiety, suicidality, substance-related risk behaviors, coping skills/emotion regulation, stress appraisal, self-esteem, self-acceptance, social support, minority stress, resilience, hope, positive identity, and identity acceptance, although conclusions are limited by moderate-to-high risk of bias. Future research should implement more consistent and rigorous methodological designs to assess and compare intervention efficacy.

This paper explores the interplay between structural and dynamic complexity factors, uncovering the mechanisms that underpin it. Four in-depth inductive case studies, which comprised semi-structured ...interviews with senior operations and SC managers as well as the use of companies' official documents and other secondary data, were carried out. The study offers a deep understanding and provides rich empirical descriptions of the interplay between structural and dynamic complexity factors. A general framework to represent different aspects of this interplay is also introduced, i.e. the House of Supply Chain Complexity diagram; as a practical tool for mapping the complexity factors and inferring the prevailing interplay mechanisms in specific cases. The results show four interplay mechanisms between structural and dynamic complexity factors: silo-thinking, localism, limited adaptability and increased uncertainty. Testable propositions are presented with relevant insights on the interplay between a wide range of structural and dynamic complexity factors. Research implications relate to: (i) a general framework usable to further investigate interplay mechanisms at factors level and in different SC contexts and (ii) theory building on the suggested interplay mechanisms. We contribute to enhance contingency research claiming for the importance of considering the cumulative effect of contingency factors on SC performance. The results also suggest that managers can accommodate the mechanisms of silo-thinking and increased uncertainty by information sharing and organizational means, but the interplay mechanisms of localism and limited adaptability appear to be more related to the physical structure of SC elements and thus mainly manageable by reducing complexity, i.e. reducing the factors involved in the interplay.

We conducted a systematic review and metasummary of qualitative data published until April 2023. Data were extracted, grouped, and refined to conform meta-findings.
The database search yielded 845 records, of which 15 comprising 2689 people who detransitioned were included in the review. A total of 582 findings were extracted, resulting in 34 meta-findings with frequencies ≥ 15 %. Two main thematic areas with several subthemes were identified. The theme “Gender transition” included “Perspectives” and “Emotions.” The theme “Gender detransition” included “Driving factors,” “Challenges” (a. Social and emotional difficulties, b. Lack of support and understanding, c. Negative healthcare experiences, d. Detransphobia, and e. Identity concerns), “Needs,” “Growth and evolution,” and “Identity and future.” Based on these meta-findings, we advance broad recommendations for supporting detransitioners in their various emotional, social, and identity needs.
Detransitioners are diverse in their experiences and perspectives and face significant challenges. Emotional validation with a focus on personal strengths and meanings, treatment of concurrent psychological issues, development of social networks, and support of identity exploration are key aspects of psychotherapeutic work with this population.
En el cantón de El Guarco se ubicará el nuevo hospital de la provincia de Cartago, con un área estimada de construcción de 9 hectáreas, en un lote próximo a la confluencia de los ríos Purires y ...Coris. Históricamente en la zona se han presentado problemáticas relacionadas a desbordamientos de ríos e inundaciones. Los parámetros morfométricos determinados para la cuenca del río Purires señalan que la cuenca es propensa a la generación de inundaciones en la cuenca baja y la acumulación de sedimentos, esto aunado a altas pendientes que disminuyen su grado de inclinación según se aproximan al punto de estudio. Para la realización del proyecto del cual se deriva este artículo, se implementó el uso de una aeronave no tripulada y una antena RTK, esto para precisar la altimetría del área de interés, esta actividad resulta en un modelo digital de elevaciones de 3,7 cm/píxel, principal insumo para el modelado hidrodinámico. Se evalúa el comportamiento hidrodinámico de un tramo de 1,5km del río Purires, en Iber 2.4.3, del cual se obtiene la máxima extensión espacial, su calado y velocidad del flujo, así como su tiempo de permanencia, esto para un posible escenario de Cambio Climático. Se obtienen resultados tanto en el área donde se edificará el hospital, las llanuras de inundación próximas al tramo levantado del río, así como dos puentes, el puente 6 de la ruta nacional 2, que comunica el área metropolitana con la zona sur del país, y también un puente cantonal que comunica con el pueblo de Barrancas.
National accounting either ignores or fails to give due values to the ecosystem services, products, incomes and environmental assets of a country. To overcome these shortcomings, we apply ...spatially-explicit extended accounts that incorporate a novel environmental income indicator, which we test in the forests of Andalusia (Spain). Extended accounts incorporate nine farmer activities (timber, cork, firewood, nuts, livestock grazing, conservation forestry, hunting, residential services and private amenity) and seven government activities (fire services, free access recreation, free access mushroom, carbon, landscape conservation, threatened biodiversity and water yield). To make sure the valuation remains consistent with standard accounts, we simulate exchange values for non-market final forest product consumption in order to measure individual ecosystem services and environmental income indicators. Manufactured capital and environmental assets are also integrated. When comparing extended to standard accounts, our results are 3.6 times higher for gross value added. These differences are explained primarily by the omission in the standard accounts of carbon activities and undervaluation of private amenity, free access recreation, landscape and threatened biodiversity ecosystem services. Extended accounts measure a value of Andalusian forest ecosystem services 5.4 times higher than that measured using the valuation criteria of standard accounts.

The aim of this study was to examine the convergent validity of self-reported diary times for commuting to and from school with device-measured positional data (Global Positioning System; GPS) in ...Spanish adolescents.
Cross-sectional data were obtained from four Spanish public secondary schools in 2021, comprising 47 adolescents and 141 home-school and school-home trips. Participants self-reported the time they left and arrived at home and school through a commuting diary. They wore a GPS device recording the objective time during three trips (i.e., one home-school trip and two school-home trips). Agreement between commuting diary and GPS data regarding home-school trips and school-home trips was evaluated using Bland-Altman plots.
Total commuting time differed by 1 min (95% limits of agreement were 16.1 min and -18.1 min) between subjective and objective measures (adolescents reported 0.8 more minutes in home-school trips and 1 more minute in school-home trips compared to objective data). Passive commuters reported 0.7 more minutes and active commuters reported 1.2 more minutes in the total commuting time compared to objective data.
Self-reported commuting diaries may be a useful tool to obtain commuting times of adolescents in epidemiological research or when tools to measure objective times are not feasible.
The low rates of active commuting to/from school in Spain, especially by bike, and the wide range of cycling interventions in the literature show that this is a necessary research subject. The aims ...of this study were: (1) to assess the feasibility of a school-based cycling intervention program for adolescents, (2) to analyse the effectiveness of a school-based cycling intervention program on the rates of cycling and other forms of active commuting to/from school (ACS), and perceived barriers to active commuting in adolescents. A total of 122 adolescents from Granada, Jaén and Valencia (Spain) participated in the study. The cycling intervention group participated in a school-based intervention program to promote cycling to school during Physical Education (PE) sessions in order to analyse the changes in the dependent variables at baseline and follow up of the intervention. Wilcoxon, Signs and McNemar tests were undertaken. The association of the intervention program with commuting behaviour, and perceived barriers to commuting, were analysed by binary logistic regression. There were improvements in knowledge at follow-up and the cycling skill scores were medium-low. The rates of cycling to school and active commuting to/from school did not change, and only the “built environment (walk)” barrier increased in the cycling group at follow-up. School-based interventions may be feasibly effective tools to increase ACS behaviour, but it is necessary to implement a longer period and continue testing further school-based cycling interventions.
