Methods
Ileal segments (1–2 cm) from male Wistar rats were mounted in isolated organ baths and connected to a force transducer, and then to an amplifier which was connected to a computer (AVS Projetos/São Paulo-SP). After stabilization for 60 min, under tension (1 gf), two submaximal contractions were induced with KCl 40 mM or carbachol 10
−6
M on ileal segments. During the third tonic and sustained contraction, Sf-EtOH was added in cumulative concentrations to the organ bath. Incubations with L-NAME (10
−4
M), ODQ (10
−5
M), TEA
+
(5 or 1 mM), glibenclamide (10
−5
M), or apamine (100 nM) were prepared (
n
= 5), separately and used to verify the involvement of the nitric oxide synthase, guanylate cyclase, and potassium channels in the relaxing effect. The results were expressed as mean ± standard error of the mean and were statistically evaluated using one-way ANOVA followed by Bonferroni test, when necessary *

Results
Sf-EtOH promotes relaxation on rat isolated ileum pre-contracted with CCh and KCl in a concentration-dependent manner. Sf-EtOH also inhibited ileum contractions against cumulative concentrations of carbachol (CCh), KCl, and CaCl
2
, shifting the curves to the right in a non-parallel manner with an
E
max
reduction. In the presence of potassium channel blockers, Sf-EtOH shifted the curves to the right with a reduction of
E
max
, suggesting the involvement of BK
Ca
, K
ATP
, and SK
Ca
in its spasmolytic effect. In the presence of L-NAME or ODQ, the relaxation curves were shifted to the right, suggesting the involvement of this pathway in Sf-EtOH spasmolytic effect.
Conclusions
Sf-EtOH acts in a concentration-dependent manner, involving the positive modulation of K
+
channels and NO pathway.
Objetivos Describir e interpretar las metodologías y resultados de los principales estudios relacionados con el monitoreo de contaminación atmosférica en ciclistas.Métodos Se buscaron y analizaron ...las investigaciones a nivel nacional e internacional de los últimos diez años en las bases de datos Cochrane, Scopus, Embase, Science Direct y Pubmed. La búsqueda se realizó de Agosto a Septiembre del año 2017 usando los siguientes descriptores de búsqueda para MeSH: air pollution, bicycling, environmental exposure, enviromental health, inhalation exposure, environmental pollutants, transportation, public health y toxicology, y para DeCS: contaminación del aire, ciclismo, exposición a riesgos ambientales, contaminantes ambientales, inhalación, transportes, salud pública y toxicología.Resultados Se identificaron diecinueve artículos publicados elegibles. La mayoría de los estudios se realizaron en Europa y Estados Unidos. En Latinoamérica se han reportado cuatro estudios. Otros estudios buscaban comparar la exposición en distintas rutas en bicicleta, comparar trayectos de una misma ruta, y otros determinar la relación distancia vs exposición. De igual manera, variables como el tráfico vehicular, la distancia a las fuentes de emisión y el tipo de ciclorruta, juegan un papel fundamental en la exposición a contaminantes en ciclistas.Conclusiones Se encontraron diversas variables que influyen de forma directa o indirectamente en la exposición a la contaminación del aire de los usuarios de bicicleta, así como algunos factores que pueden reducir la exposición a estos contaminantes.
RESUMEN El patrimonio urbano es una categoría del patrimonio cultural. Los centros históricos están protegidos por un marco jurídico que salvaguarda los valores que son objeto de la declaratoria ...correspondiente. El estudio de la política de protección del patrimonio urbano en Colombia ha estado limitado por la perspectiva clásica. En contraste, esta investigación realiza un estudio de caso sobre la legislación de conservación y los centros históricos declarados en Colombia como BIC del ámbito nacional, entre 1954 y 2019, desde el institucionalismo histórico. La metodología empleada es el Esquema de Aplicación del Path Dependence (EAPD), que se orienta a reconocer las relaciones entre variables, periodos y trayectoria del objeto de estudio, para demostrar la hipótesis de este trabajo: el surgimiento del patrimonio urbano y los mecanismos de protección se debe al agotamiento de la ley e ideas del patrimonio histórico. Las conclusiones preliminares evidencian cinco periodos de evolución de esta temática y enfatizan la dependencia mutua del patrimonio urbano y la política de protección, como también la reciente emergencia de la participación ciudadana, la pérdida de flexibilidad y versatilidad del marco legal con manifestaciones de irreversibilidad en la conservación del patrimonio urbano.

Aim:
This study evaluated the chromatic and surface changes on enamel after toothbrushing with whitening and desensitizing toothpaste.
Materials and Methods:
Sixty enamel blocks were ...prepared, pigmented, and stratified according to initial Knoop microhardness and divided into six groups. The average roughness (Ra) was determined from two readings. After 24 h in artificial saliva, 10,000 cycles of simulated brushing were applied. The Ra was measured after 5000 and 10,000 cycles, and tooth wear was determined. The mean roughness was evaluated, and tooth color was recorded before and after treatment.
Results:
Brushing with dentifrices increased the roughness of enamel in all groups. It was lower for Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief + Bleaching, Colgate maximum protection anti-caries, and the control group. Greater roughness was observed in dentifrices containing silica. Greater wear was found with Sensodyne bleaching extra fresh and in the control group. The best bleaching effect was found with Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief + Bleaching. Colgate Sensitive Whitening, Oral-B Pro-Health Whitening, and Sensodyne Whitening Extra Fresh showed major changes on surface roughness.
Conclusion:
The physical characteristics of the minerals of the toothpaste appear to be the major determinant of dental abrasion, not their quantity or whitening capacity, or rather their ability to remove enamel surface stains.
This study embarks on the synthesis of activated carbon (AC) from cashew nut shells using a potassium carbonate (K2CO3) activation process, with a specific focus on its practical application in ...high-pressure gas adsorption. Among the synthesized samples, MCAK85 emerged as the most efficient, demonstrating a specific surface area of 1693 m2/g and total and micropore volumes of 0.839 cm3/g and 0.641 cm3/g, respectively. Importantly, this bioorganic activated carbon exhibited high sorption capacities for CO2 and CH4, with uptake values of 11.0 mmol/g and 5.5 mmol/g at 10 bar at 25°C, and a CO2/CH4 selectivity range between 9.1 and 1.8. A comprehensive range of characterization techniques were employed to analyze the structural and chemical properties of the synthesized AC, providing valuable insights into the functional groups and molecular structure. The morphology of the AC was examined using SEM, while the point of zero charge was determined to understand the surface charge characteristics. Additionally, TGA was utilized to assess the thermal stability and composition of the AC. This study underscores the potential of utilizing agricultural waste, specifically cashew nut shells, in the creation of effective materials for gas storage and purification applications. The high-pressure adsorption capacity of the produced AC, coupled with its sustainable and eco-friendly nature, underscores its suitability for environmental and industrial applications, particularly in areas focusing on greenhouse gas capture and air purification, thereby inspiring further research and development in this field.
Resumen Introducción La vigilancia de la morbilidad materna severa y la mortalidad contribuye a evaluar el estado de la salud materna en los diferentes países. Objetivo Caracterizar la morbilidad ...materna extrema y la mortalidad materna en un hospital regional de Sudáfrica. Método Estudio descriptivo transversal en el Hospital Tshilidzini de Sudáfrica durante 3 años con un universo de 145 casos de morbilidad y 21 muertes maternas que también constituyó la muestra de manera intencional. Los datos se recolectaron mediante un formulario y se calcularon indicadores de salud materna empleando medidas descriptivas y pruebas inferenciales para el análisis estadístico. Resultados Hubo mayor morbilidad en adolescentes (30,3%) y mortalidad en añosas (28,6%), sin diferencias en cuanto al lugar de procedencia; la eclampsia (35,9%), preeclampsia severa (23,4%) y la hemorragia postparto (19,3%) fueron las causas principales de morbilidad; así, la hemorragia postparto (42,9%) y las infecciones severas (28,6%) de mortalidad, y el shock hipovolémico (23,8%), síndrome de dificultad respiratoria aguda (19%) y coagulación intravascular diseminada (14,3%) las causas finales más frecuentes. La razón de morbilidad materna extrema y resultado materno adverso fue 8,4 y 9,6 por cada 1000 nacidos vivos respectivamente; la razón de mortalidad materna 121,1 por cada 100 000 nacidos vivos, la razón morbilidad / mortalidad 6,9:1 y el índice de mortalidad 12,7%. Conclusiones La preeclamsia-eclampsia, hemorragia obstétrica e infecciones severas constituyeron las principales causas de morbilidad y mortalidad, todas mayormente prevenibles y que llevan a indicadores desfavorables de salud materna.
Las redes sociales se han convertido en ámbitos de interacción social entre los jóvenes, que crean un perfil para relacionarse con los demás. La exposición pública en el caso de los adolescentes ...puede generar problemas sobre aspectos sociales, emotivos y afectivos. Esta investigación analiza cómo se usa Facebook por parte de los jóvenes y qué experiencia obtienen de ello. Aunque dicen conocer los riesgos, admiten que aceptan a desconocidos como amigos y ofrecen datos reales sobre su vida. Ante esta situación, se hace más evidente la necesidad de la alfabetización mediática y digital de estos jóvenes que, aunque no deberían estar en Facebook hasta los 13 años, cuentan con un perfil de manera mayoritaria. Para ello se ha utilizado una metodología basada en el análisis de contenido y las entrevistas en profundidad. Se trata de un estudio comparativo entre Colombia y España. En Colombia se han realizado 100 análisis de perfiles y 20 entrevistas en profundidad. La muestra ha sido de adolescentes de 12 a 15 años, de la Institución Educativa Distrital Técnico Internacional de Bogotá. En España se han analizado 100 perfiles y se han realizado 20 entrevistas a chicos de 12 a 15 años, de Institutos (IES) de Andalucía. Social networks have become areas of social interaction among young people where they create a profile to relate with others. The way this population uses social networks has an impact on their socialization as well as the emotional and affective aspects of their development. The purpose of this investigation was to analyze how Facebook is used by young people to communicate among themselves and the experiences they gain from it. On the one hand, while teenagers claim to know the risks, they admit to accepting strangers as friends and to sharing large amounts of true data about their private lives. For this reason, it is necessary to understand the media and digital phenomenon that the youth are living through. Although they are legally prohibited from using Facebook until they are 13, the number of underage users of this social network is growing, without any restraint from parents or schools. This investigation compares the use of Facebook by youth in Colombia and Spain by using the content analysis and interview techniques. In Colombia 100 Facebook profiles were analyzed and 20 interviews carried out with students between 12- and 15-years-old attending the Institución Educativa Distrital Técnico Internacional school in Bogotá. In Spain, 100 Facebook profiles were analyzed and 20 interviews held with students of the same age group attending various secondary schools in Andalusia.
