...Section 4 concludes with applications, limitations and future research directions of each study. 2. First: The Balanced ScoreCard (BSC) is enhanced to classify service quality parameters and map ...them with performance of health-care sector under the impact of COVID-19. ...The earlier study focuses on operational context and organizational financial performance, but it does not account health-care sector’s impact on economical outcome. ...The remanufacturing feasibility assessment model has been proposed by Bhide and Akarte (2022), considering associated costs of various sanitizer bottle-manufacturing activities.
Purpose
The ongoing pandemic has gravely affected different facets of society and economic trades worldwide. During the outbreak, most manufacturing and service sectors were closed across the globe ...except for essential commodities such as food and medicines. Consequently, recent literature has focused on studying supply chain resilience and sustainability in different pandemic contexts. This study aims to add to the existing literature by exploring the economic, environmental and societal aspects affecting the food supply chain and assessing the impact of COVID-19 on food sustainability.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey method has been adopted with a questionnaire instrument investigating the role of technology, government policies, geopolitics and intermediaries on sustainable organisational management. A five-point Likert scale (i.e. 1 = strongly disagree; 5 = strongly agree) is used to evaluate the responses. The findings are based on 131 responses from entry-level workers and senior executives of different food supply chains across Asia and Europe. The data has been analysed to derive insights into the impacts of this pandemic.
Findings
The survey concludes with the significant impact of COVID-19 on the three pillars of sustainability, i.e. economic, social and environmental dimensions. The empirical analysis shows digitalisation and its applications help mitigate the negative effect of COVID-19 on sustainability. In addition, the supportive government policies and intermediatory interventions were helpful in improving sustainability at each level.
Research limitations/implications
The findings have implications for businesses and policymakers. Companies can learn from the advantages of digitalisation to counter the challenges imposed by the pandemic or similar situations in the future in maintaining the sustainability of their supply chains. Managers can also learn the importance of effective organisational management in driving sustainability. Finally, policymakers can devise policies to support businesses in adopting sustainable practices in their supply chains.
Originality/value
This study adds to the limited literature exploring the impact of COVID-19 on food supply chain sustainability through the triple bottom line lens. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is also one of the first empirical studies to examine the effect of technology, government and organisational management practices on the sustainability of food supply chains.
Photocatalytic fuel cells (PFC) are light-assisted devices that convert chemical energy into electricity. However, conventional PFC produces extremely low photocurrents due to the slow kinetics of ...the photoanodes to oxidized organic fuels, thus limiting the power generation. Here, an all-inorganic PFC manufactured with heterostructured W-BiVO4/V2O5 photoanode separated from a platinum cathode by a porous membrane is described. Sulfite ions are used as a fuel anolyte and Fe3+ is the catholyte. Under lighting, the W-BiVO4/V2O5 photoanode is exceptionally efficient for oxidizing sulfite to sulfate, which results in a high photocurrent output. Under optimized conditions, the W-BiVO4/V2O5-Pt cell produces a high short-circuit current of 8.79 mA cm−2, an open-circuit potential 0.85 V, and a power density of 1.89 mW cm−2 at 4.30 mA cm−2. The excellent PFC performance is attributed to the photovoltage generated by W-BiVO4/sulfite-sulfate liquid-junctions and efficient charge separation and hole transport in the photoanode bulk promoted by the W-BiVO4/V2O5 junctions. Also, the kinetics of redox reactions are fast, eliminating the use of cocatalysts. Thus, this simple PFC concept can be a viable alternative for electricity generation.

Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) has been receiving increasingly more attention all over the world as a special way for accessing new ideas and innovative opportunities through minor-share investing ...in established companies. The purpose of CVC investments may either be purely financial or to pursue strategic goals. Organisations often seek to take actions that impact positively on sustainability by assembling related knowledge and technologies. These resources may come from invested startups through the use of a CVC programme. This research aims to measure and analyse the Corporate Venture Capital programmes of companies listed in the ISE B3 Corporate Sustainability Index. To this end, a three-step methodology was conducted. First, a systematic review of the literature took place, followed by a review of companies based on secondary sources such as their websites. Finally, a survey was developed and was opted to survey companies through their Investor Relationship (IR) public channels. Results show that 27 of the companies listed in the ISE B3 Index have CVC programmes that contemplate organizational initiatives besides investment. In this sense, one can claim that at least 70% of the ISE B3 Index companies are somehow involved in CVC operations. The results contribute to the literature on corporate venture capital and sustainability by showing that companies spend from 10% to 15% of their capital in sustainable businesses in order to remain competitive.
Arg72Pro is a common polymorphism in TP53, showing differences in its biological functions. Case‐control studies have been performed to elucidate the role of Arg72Pro in cancer, although the results ...are conflicting and heterogeneous. Here, we analyzed pooled data from case‐control studies to determine the role of Arg72Pro in different cancer sites. We performed a systematic review and meta‐analysis of 302 case‐control studies that analyzed Arg72Pro in cancer susceptibility. Odds ratios were estimated for different tumor sites using distinct genetic models, and the heterogeneity between studies was explored using I2 values and meta‐regression. We adopted quality criteria to classify the studies. Subgroup analyses were done for tumor sites according to ethnicity, histological, and anatomical sites. Results indicated that Arg72Pro is associated with higher susceptibility to cancer in some tumor sites, mainly hepatocarcinoma. For some tumor sites, quality of studies was associated with the size of genetic association, mainly in cervical, head and neck, gastric, and lung cancer. However, study quality did not explain the observed heterogeneity substantially. Meta‐regression showed that ethnicity, allelic frequency and genotyping method were responsible for a substantial part of the heterogeneity observed. Our results suggest ethnicity and histological and anatomical sites may modulate the penetrance of Arg72Pro in cancer susceptibility. This meta‐analysis denotes the importance for more studies with good quality and that the covariates responsible for heterogeneity should be controlled to obtain a more conclusive response about the function of Arg72Pro in cancer.
This paper uses an organizational identity perspective to investigate similarities and differences between public, private, and nonprofit organizations. The analysis is focused on three interrelated ...identity domains: the content used by members to define their organizations; the orientation of the organizational identity (individualistic, relational, and collectivistic); the nature of members' attachment to their organizations (identification, neutral identification, ambivalent identification, disidentification). Using a sample of 256 members of organizations belonging to these three sectors we found that: the content used to describe public, private, and nonprofit organizations, although sharing numerous elements, also contains sector‐specific meanings, especially in nonprofit organizations; concerning the organizational identity orientation, private organizations are seen as more individualistic and more relational than public and nonprofit ones, while public organizations score high in the collectivistic orientation; regarding the nature of members' attachment, although members of the three types of organizations exhibit the same levels of organizational identification and neutral identification, nonprofit organizations generate more disidentification and ambivalent identification among their members than public and private ones. Overall, organizational elements revealing operational practices tend to be similar, while those elements representing organizational identity tend to be different.
Patient blood management (PBM) programs are associated with better patient outcomes, a reduced number of transfusions and cost-savings The Clinical Decision Support (CDS) systems are valuable tools ...in this process, but their availability is limited in developing countries This study assesses the feasibility and effectiveness of an adapted CDS system for low-income countries.
This was a prospective study of the PBM program implementation, in a 200-bed tertiary hospital, between February 2019 and May 2020. Outcome measures were red blood cell (RBC), fresh frozen plasma (FFP) and platelet unit transfusions, the transfusion of a single unit of red blood cells and an RBC adequacy index (RAI).
Comparing the post-PBM program era with the pre-PBM system era, there was a decrease in red blood cell transfusions (p=0.05), with an increase in single unit red blood cell transfusions (p=0.005) and RAI (p<0.001).
The PBM programs, including electronic transfusion guidelines with pre-transfusion medical auditing, was associated with improved transfusion practices and reduced product acquisition-related costs.
Background: Industry 4.0 is one of the topics related to manufacturing, supply chain and logistics that has received great interest from the academic community, organizations and governments in the ...last decade. Problem statement: Several published articles discuss and seek to conceptualize what the fourth industrial revolution is, but no research relates Industry 4.0 in the context of logistics service providers (LSPs) in a clear and structured way. Objectives: This study aims to fill this research gap, proposing a conceptual framework and addressing the challenges, barriers and organizational dimensions that need adaptation to insert LSPs in the new Industry 4.0 environment. Methods: This theoretical and conceptual study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) as a research method to understand the Industry 4.0 phenomenon in the context of LSPs. Contributions: The relevant constructs identified in this research will help professionals and organizations that provide logistics services to develop strategies and encourage new research in the field of Industry 4.0 from the perspective of LSPs. Results: In addition, this research identified and generally consolidated six dimensions, as a result of this innovative study a conceptual framework is presented.
Distal femoral metaphyseal fractures are rare in children, and the proximity of the fracture to the growth plate makes their approach challenging.
Evaluate outcomes and complications of treatment of ...distal femoral metaphyseal fractures in children with proximal humeral locking plates.
Retrospective study between 2018 and 2021, including seven patients. The analysis included general characteristics, trauma mechanism, classification, clinical and radiographic outcomes, and complications.
The mean follow-up was 20 months, the average age was nine years, five patients were boys, and six fractured on the right side. Five fractures were caused by car accidents, one by falling from their own height and one by playing soccer. Five fractures were classified as 33-M/3.2 and two as 33-M/3.1. Three fractures were open, Gustilo IIIA. All seven patients recovered mobility and resumed their pre-trauma activities. All seven healed, and one fracture was reduced to 5 degrees valgus, without any other complications. Six patients had the implant removed and did not present refracture.
Treatment of distal femoral metaphyseal fractures with proximal humeral locking plates is a viable option that offers good results and fewer complications, saving the epiphyseal cartilage. Level of Evidence II; Controlled study without randomization.
O uso das redes sociais pelas polícias é considerado uma inovação em segurança pública, criando valor e gerando benefícios aos seus usuários externos e internos.
